Caeda

|
“ | How the princess has grown, though! Sharp as a tack, that one. Such a change from when she was—...Now what am I saying? Caeda has always been clever. Even as a wee girl she knew how to wrap her elders about her little finger. | ” | — Lorenz to Marth, on Caeda |
---|
Caeda (pronounced /ˈsidə/[key];[1] Japanese: シーダ Sheeda) is the princess of Talys, daughter of its first king Mostyn. She befriended Marth of Altea during his two-year exile to Talys in the War of Shadows, calling upon him when the Galder pirates launch an assault on the nation, and subsequently joining his forces when he departs to raise an army against the Dolhr oppression. After the war, she and Marth become engaged, and she moves to Altea to live with him and assist in the restoration of the nation. When the army of Archanea comes to conquer Altea, Marth's sister Elice convinces Caeda to flee in order to find and alert Marth as to Altea's fate, and assists him throughout the rest of the War of Heroes.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Caeda is among the strongest units in Shadow Dragon. She joins in Chapter 1 with a remarkable base Speed stat that allows her to double attack most standard enemies. As a flying unit, she stands out for her ability to cross over water and mountain peaks that your other units cannot. Her low base Strength and growth will leave her weighed down by most lances, but her 85% Speed growth will soon allow her to double attack even with heavier weapons, such as Steel Lances and Javelins. She is notable as one of the only units that will consistently double attack even on the hardest difficulty levels. Her promotion to Dracoknight is a huge improvement, giving her enormous boosts to her main statistical weaknesses, Strength and Defense, plus 2 extra Movement, in exchange for a negligible loss in Resistance. Caeda is also a good candidate for the Seraph Robe in Chapter 6 to allow her to survive an extra hit, and is very helpful alongside her promoted Defense stat.
The biggest contributor to Caeda's success is her exclusive Wing Spear, a lightweight but powerful lance that deals bonus damage to cavaliers, paladins, knights, generals, and horsemen. These unit types make up a majority of the bosses in Shadow Dragon, making Caeda one of the best boss killers available. The Wing Spear can be forged with extra Mt to improve her damage output even further, to the point where she can kill cavaliers and knights in a single hit (saving Wing Spear uses), and even the most durable generals will not survive a round of combat against her. Extra Wing Spears can be found in Chapters 8, 16, 17x, and 22, so there is no need to be extra-stingy when using it.
Caeda may struggle in the early chapters due to her low durability, the plethora of axe-wielding enemies, and the lack of enemy types that the Wing Spear is effective against. Caeda's flaws are worth putting up with; once she is able to take advantage of her strong points, she will prove to be a unit with near-unmatched versatility on any difficulty level.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Caeda is one of the strongest characters in the prologue, being able to double almost every enemy in it, while also providing useful flying utility, being the only character with the ability to do so besides the noticably inferior Est. Her durability does leave something to be desired, but most characters will be unable to take more than 2 or 3 hits either, so it's not a very noticable weakness. However, once she rejoins the army at the starts of chapter 5 her flaws start being far more noticable. For one, she isn't the only character that can provide flying utility to the army anymore, her low strength and bulk also become much more noticable when compared to juggernauts like Palla and while the Wing Spear is still very strong, it isn't nearely as strong as it was in Shadow Dragonbecause of the variety of enemies in New Mystery. However Caeda can still contribute well, thanks to her fantastic speed and the wing spear allowing her to double most enemies. The choice between promoting to Dracoknight or Falcon Knight is rather interesting. Dracoknight gives her access to axes, which can help to somewhat minigate her low strength, and additional physical durability. However, Falcon Knight gives Caeda additional speed, which she is sure to cap, which in combination with the Starspehre allows her to double the majority of enemies in the game, unlike the rather disappointing Dracoknight speed cap of 23 and the additionaly resistance is useful as magic based enemies deal great damage even with the use of pure waters. Caeda also makes for a decent archer or myrmidon thanks to her aformentioned great speed, but will need to get forged weapons to help with her poor strength and will make for a fine paladin on chapters wherethere are too many counters to flyers. Overall, thanks to her great availability, Wing Spear and great speed, Caeda is a solid unit and will find great use on most teams with a bit of stat-boosting items or forges to fix her somewhat weaker stats, even if she won't be nearely the same dominating force that she was in Shadow Dragon.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
In "Xenologue: Champions of Yore 1", Caeda is one of the spirits of heroic women fought by Chrom and the spirits of Marth, Alm and Ike in a facsimile of Talys. Caeda also appears as an enemy unit in the DLC chapters Champions of Yore 3, Lost Bloodlines 2 and 3, and Rogues & Redeemers 2 and 3. A version of Caeda is playable via SpotPass as part of the Shadow Dragon character set.

Fire Emblem Warriors
Role
During the main story Caeda, with Marth, Tiki, and Navarre, abruptly appears during the ending of Chapter 14 to assist Rowan and Lianna in retreating from the area. Caeda's companions receive the shortest amount of spotlight before joining, having virtually none, compared to the other recruited characters from Awakening and Fates. It is unclear how she and her companions were informed that the twins needed rescue and neither the main story or her supports with any characters appear to ever elaborate on it.
Caeda accompanies Aytolis's forces for the rest of the story and aids in the defeat of Velezark. Upon Velezark's defeat the portals to other worlds begin closing and Caeda, along with all the other heroes, are forcibly returned to their home worlds.

Personality and character
On the surface, Caeda is childish and jovial. However, when she needs to be serious, she can be gravely so. Caeda seems protective of Marth, yet at the same time she does not want to be a distraction to him, so she tends to avoid him at times. She seems to care about him more than she does herself, commanding Ogma and his mercenaries to focus on protecting Marth, not her in Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and noting at the end of Mystery of the Emblem that she once prayed to the gods that if he had to die, they should take her life instead.
Caeda is also extremely manipulative, seducing Roger into joining Marth's army, according to Lorenz these manipulative tendencies started to show at a young age. She has also been shown to be quite politically adept as shown in her recruitment conversation with Lorenz.

Caeda plays a prominent role in the Fire Emblem anime adaptation, here referred to as Sheda. Much of the first episode is devoted to her relationship with Marth during his days in exile on Talys, and her efforts to try to get him to relax and stop worrying about the duties he will eventually assume as Falchion's heir. When Marth seems to show interest in other girls, even by accident, Caeda is prone to fits of jealousy.
During the fight against the Galder pirates, she attempts to stop Gazzak from hurting her father, but is captured, forcing Marth to surrender; she is saved by the timely arrival of Ogma and his group. Later, she breaks up the fight between Ogma and Navarre, convincing the latter to stand down and ally with Marth.
