The Seacomers

Port Ferox

New units

Might I join, sire? This may not be my country, but it is my cause. My dear Minerva here hungers for a bite of the action as well!
— Cherche

The Seacomers is the twelfth chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, Valmese forces have arrived at Port Ferox at roughly the same time as the Shepherds. The Shepherds have to defend Port Ferox from the Valmese forces.

Main article: The Seacomers/Script

In a rare situation, the chapter begins with the preparations phase. Once preparations are finished, we catch up to Dalton, the commander of the Valmese ship docked in Port Ferox, as a villager has wandered onto his ship. Dalton tells the "worm" how dare he board his ship, that he will not discuss terms with a peasant, he will issue demands to all; Dalton then asks the citizens and soldiers to hear his words--the Conquereor himself, Emperor Walhart, claims dominion over the Ylissean continent. Dalton tells the people that they will grant Walhart their ships, all their provender, their loyalty, and their every possession; Dalton also says that they will surrender the land's greatest treasure, the Fire Emblem. Dalton reveals that, if Walhart's demands are met, their lives will be spared; resistance will be met with death, before asking the people to kneel and swear fealty to the Valmese Empire. The villager asks that, if Dalton takes all of what they have, how are they to make their living--without food and ships, the people will starve; the villager asks Dalton if he wants the people to all die. Dalton says the villager will do for now, proceeding to kill him. Chrom, him and the Shepherds having witnessed the spectacle (with Robin shown alongside Chrom at this point), sees that the Valmese will never listen to reason and asks everyone to engage. Frederick asks Chrom if he is certain he wants to get into another war; Chrom reveals he's had time to ponder Ylisse's place in the world as well as his own--they have to stand against evil in all its forms or there can be no peace. Cherche flies onto the scene and asks to join the fight--Ferox might not be her country, but the Shepherds are fighting for her cause--and that her dear Minerva, as her wyvern is named, hungers for a bite of the action as well. The chapter begins at this point.

Once the battle ends, Robin asks Chrom if that's all of the Valmese forces in the area; Chrom confirms this but reveals that victory came with a price, with Basilio revealing that both the town and the Feroxi army are in shambles. Frederick takes this as troubling news, since Feroxi soldiers are the finest east of the long sea, and if they are having trouble, everybody's in trouble; Flavia reveals that's not even the half of it, Dalton's forces were the vanguard, a taste of the meal yet to come; Basilio adds that once the meat arrives, Walhart will wash over the whole continent within weeks, with no way the Shepherds and Feroxi forces could repel them and defend their people--it would be a slaughter. Chrom reveals that Ylisse is no better equipped to handle an attack from the sea, and asks Robin what he/she suggests; Robin reveals that Valm's greatest strength is their cavalry, which puts the groups at a disadvantage on land, but if they were to catch them at sea--Chrom cuts him/her off, revealing that neither Ylisse nor Ferox have warships, with Basilio revealing they'd need aid from a kingdom that does. Flavia asks Basilio if he has a place in mind; Basilio suggests the ally would have to be a land that borders the sea and has enough wealth to afford the campaign, with Robin revealing the suggested ally as Plegia. Chrom refuses the suggestion, declaring Plegian aid out of the question; Basilio reveals Plegia has gold and countless ships, and the Shepherds have a fart's chance in the wind without their aid. Flavia agrees with Basilio, saying it's the only way forward; Robin asks Chrom to reconsider, with Chrom relucantly agreeing, asking for a messenger to be sent and a summit requested immediately, hoping their new king is more reasonable than Gangrel. Flavia complements Robin on an impressive victory, especially given that it was his/her first battle against Valmese forces; both Robin and Chrom have grown quite adept, of which Flavia says they should be proud. The player may save their game at this point.

Chrom and Robin are still gathered at Port Ferox when Frederick walks onto the scene, revealing word from Plegia has arrived--Plegia has agreed to meet the Shepherds at their outpost on Carrion Isle--a poor venue should things go sour as the island's name implies, but Frederick doesn't see the Shepherds having much of a choice. Chrom notes Frederick being cautious as ever, and telling him not to worry, they'll get their ships--the threat hangs over the entire continent, and that includes Plegia, a fact that the Plegians have to see.

At Port Ferox, Chrom's men and the Feroxi barely repel the fierce Valmese attack. In need of ships to drive Valm off, they turn to an unlikely ally for help.
