“ | Well... You see, as a priest, I've met people from all walks of life. Some of them--like you--well, I can read them like an open book. | ” | — Moulder to Vanessa |
---|
Moulder (Japanese: モルダ Mulder) is a priest of Frelia who appears in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. King Hayden of Frelia sends him with Princess Eirika's army, along with Gilliam and Vanessa, to assist the Princess in her search for Ephraim. As a priest, he is quite serious and righteous.
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Role
Moulder first appears in the ending scenes of Chapter 1. After Eirika decides to enter Grado territory, Hayden sadly states that he cannot spare many soldiers to aid her.[1] However, he does send three Frelian vassals to help, namely Moulder, Gilliam, and Vanessa.
During Chapter 2 Moulder assists Ross by healing his injuries. Afterwards, Moulder remains with Eirika's forces for the remainder of the War of the Stones.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Moulder joins the army as a Priest in Chapter 2 with solid bases, including 20 HP and 9 speed, preventing him from being doubled by most early-game enemies and allowing him to survive at least one hit. He has C rank in staves at base, allowing him to reach A rank quite easily and use the Warp staff obtained in Chapter 15, as well as use many other useful staves.
Moulder's promotion to Bishop gives him 40 additional staff experience, making it easier to get A staff level. It also gives him D rank in light magic and Slayer, which gives all his attacks effectiveness against monsters, which are plentiful in the later chapters of the game. By comparison, Sage offers similar stat boosts, but grants C rank in anima magic instead of staff experience, and does not provide Slayer. Slayer and staff experience will generally be more useful, so Bishop is the preferable promotion for Moulder.
The Guiding Ring Moulder needs to promote is very competitive in The Sacred Stones; in addition to Moulder, Artur, Lute, Natasha, L'Arachel, and Ewan all need one to promote. Moulder will likely reach promotion level before Natasha, L'Arachel, and Ewan, and can gain Slayer upon promotion unlike Artur and Natasha. However, as he cannot fight enemies and staves provide little experience, Moulder will not level up quickly; as such, he gains little from not promoting as soon as he could.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Moulder is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the The Sacred Stones character set. Moulder is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series.

Skill set
Like all male bonus units in Awakening, Moulder has access to all base class and advanced class skills available to standard male units.
Personality and character
Moulder is a wise, righteous priest. He is always willing to help others in many situations. For example, he coaches Colm on self-righteousness and reflection on one's actions[2]. As a priest, he has come in contact with many people, and he can determine what sort of person someone is very well[3]. He cares a lot about those around him and acts as a sort of father. However, he takes his duty so seriously that he even forgets about his own birthday[4].
Little is known about Moulder's life. He says that Vanessa reminds him of himself twenty years ago. Also, he was present at King Hayden's coronation ceremony, carrying the king's crown[5]. He was quite nervous when someone shouted, "Get ahold of yourself, man!" This caused Moulder to almost drop the crown[6]. The next day, he and Gilliam met and became close friends[7], and have been for a "decade and a half"[8]. This places the beginning of Gilliam's service at fifteen years before the start of the game, in year 788, with the game starting in the year 803.

Moulder |
Usually a last name, one of many surnames named after trades, such as "Smith" or "Baker". "Moulder" is not a word used today, however; a "moulder" was a skilled mason. It is also spelled "Mulder" or "Molder". It can also be a verb meaning "to rot and decompose"; this is probably not an intended meaning of the character. |
