A Duel Disgraced is the eighth paralogue chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. As a paralogue chapter, its events are not integral to the game's main storyline and can be done at the player's leisure. The chapter is unlocked after both clearing chapter 13 and have Sully married. There are no additional requirements to reach the chapter, as the chapter connects to the area chapter 4 took place at.

In this chapter, a duelist without honor takes on the student of his previous victim, with the Shepherds providing the latter some backup upon hearing of the plight. As it turns out, the victim's student turns out to be the daughter of a very tough yet honorable Shepherd.


Main article: A Duel Disgraced/Script

At a set of dueling grounds in northern Ferox, a woman named Kjelle is confronting an apparently dishonorable man; this man has apparently killed Kjelle's sensei, and Kjelle says he will now face her. The man, whose name is revealed to be Cassius, compares Kjelle's sensei to a pile of pudding and advises Kjelle to keep walking; Kjelle reveals Cassius claimed a hostage, and that her sensei would never have lost in a fair fight. A maiden, who later is revealed to be the sensei's wife, appears on the scene and says her husband wouldn't have wanted this act of revenge, and is about to explain what would happen if she lost Kjelle as well when Kjelle says she won't lose her and that her sensei will be avenged. Cassius tells Kjelle if she wants to run headlong into the grave, he won't stop her, they can duel in the ruins ahead.

We cut to outside the dueling grounds where Chrom and Robin have gathered; Robin asks Chrom what he makes of the situation, with Chrom hoping Kjelle knows what she's getting into. The sensei's wife arrives on the scene and asks Chrom to do something; Chrom asks what's wrong, with the sensei's wife revealing Kjelle is walking into a terrible trap, revealing that Cassius would never fight an honest duel--her husband took a similar stand not too long ago, but Cassius took a girl hostage and killed him as he lowered his weapon. The sensei's wife won't let Kjelle suffer the same fate, that she'd gladly die in her place; Chrom states they'll see what the Shepherds can do. Preparations take place at this point.

Once preparations finish, Kjelle tells Cassius that he promised her a duel; Cassius says he did, and tells Kjelle to consider his underlings his "seconds". Cassius reveals he's not a monster and he'll spare Kjelle if she gets on her knees and begs; Kjelle states she'd sooner die, with Cassius saying he can arrange that and asks his men to have at her. The battle begins at this point.

Kjelle can be spoken to with either Chrom or Sully, and if spoken to with Chrom, can initiate one of two different conversations depending on whether or not he is Kjelle's father. If Sully speaks with Kjelle, she asks Kjelle if she has a second; after a scared reaction from Kjelle, Sully asks if she has something on her face, with Kjelle saying Sully reminds her of someone, with Kjelle asking Sully to forgive her, she has no time to talk. Sully tells Kjelle not to worry, it won't take long, then tells Kjelle that the lowlifes in the area have no honor, and if she meets them head-on, she'll just end up with a sword in her back; Kjelle reveals head-on is how she lives, with Sully saying she likes Kjelle and that it's all the more reason she can't let Kjelle charge off on her own. Kjelle asks Sully not to try to stop her, with Sully saying she's not stopping her, she's going with her; Kjelle can focus on finishing her duel, and Sully will kill any idiot who gets in the way. If Chrom speaks with Kjelle, he asks Kjelle to excuse him, but Kjelle mistakes Chrom for a fiend as Chrom parries Kjelle's spear, with Kjelle asking Chrom how he did it; Chrom states he gets a lot of practice and asks Kjelle to stop trying to skewer him for a second, saying the Shepherds are not her enemies and that her sensei's wife sent them to help her. There are too many here for Kjelle to fight alone, no matter what her skill; the Shepherds will take care of the rabble while Kjelle fights her duel. Kjelle asks Chrom if he'd do it for a stranger; Chrom asks if it's a problem, with Kjelle saying it's not. If Chrom is Kjelle's father, the conversation has a slight deviation: while Kjelle in the process of asking Chrom how he did it when she asks Chrom if she knows him; Kjelle feels as if they've met, but then realizes it's impossible. Chrom will then say he hates to interrupt Kjelle's musing, then asks her to lower her spear, that the Shepherds have been sent to help her; the rest of the scene plays out as normal from the point where Chrom states there are too many for Kjelle to fight alone. Once the chosen conversation finishes, the player may control Kjelle at this point.

Once the battle ends, the sensei's wife thanks the gods for Kjelle's safety; Kjelle states she kept her promise, her sensei can rest in peace now. The sensei's wife says she may have a way to thank Kjelle--revealing something that belonged to her husband and saying she's sure he'd want Kjelle to have it; Kjelle sees it as a precious keepsake, and says it's rightful place is with her sensei's wife. The sensei's wife says she won't forget her husband for lack of a memento and asks Kjelle to take the keepsake; Kjelle asks if she's certain, to which the sensei's wife says she is and Kjelle thanks her. The sensei's wife asks Kjelle to take care of herself. Afterward, Kjelle starts talking with Sully, with the latter revealing that the good guys won after all; Kjelle thanks Sully for her help, but she fears other tasks lie ahead of her, that she still has to find her parents. Sully says Kjelle has it rough given her parents are missing, then asks her for any idea where they might have gone; Kjelle reveals she has a ring her father gave her mother, but little else to go on. Sully asks for a look, to which Kjelle grants; Sully then recognizes the ring as her ring, then asks Kjelle if she's one of the children who came back with Lucina, revealing she's got a new lead on the identity of Kjelle's parents--she's her mother. Kjelle shows surprise, with Sully asking Kjelle if she expected someone prettier; Kjelle says she wasn't, that Sully looks as beautiful now as when she knew her, causing Sully to ask that she's not all wrinkled or missing a hand. Kjelle revealed Sully was a beautiful and vibrant woman despite the ill times they lived in--Sully taught her how to be strong and survive; Sully asks Kjelle to sit down, she wants to know every last detail about the future, to which Kjelle agrees and Sully asking if that's how she addresses her mother. Kjelle later reveals that Sully was always tough on her, with Sully revealing that any child of hers has to learn to respect their elders; Kjelle says it's good to see Sully again.
