“ | Glory is won on the battlefield! Glory is meeting your enemy's eyes and watching the hope drain away with his life...Glory is not won holed up in a castle with plots and cowardly schemes. And I'll be dead before I let some dynast farm lord take today's glory in my stead. | ” | — Walhart |

The Conqueror is the nineteenth chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, the Shepherds have arrived at the approach to Valm Castle, where an epic battle against Walhart himself awaits. An event that happens after the main battle appears to swing the momentum of the war back toward the Shepherds' favor.

The Conqueror/Script
Outside the imperial castle, the Shepherds await the Valmese army. Inside the castle, Excellus plans for the Resistance to collapse as they fight the Ylisseans. As he speaks, Walhart arrives; Walhart announces his intent to fight on the field and leaves. As the Valmese army exits the castle, Say'ri points out Walhart to Chrom. When Walhart arrives, he calls out a challenge to Chrom before ordering his men to charge the Ylisseans.
Once Walhart is defeated, he retreats inside the castle. Chrom remarks on the tenacity of the Valmese troops before dynast forces arrive from the south. Inside the castle, Excellus is dumbfounded, both at Walhart's defeat and at the castle being besieged by the southern dynasts. Say'ri confirms to the Shepherds that those are troops from the lands Yen'fay commanded. Chrom then rallies his troops for one final battle against Valm
Summary
The party challenges Walhart near the capital and forces the Conqueror to retreat. Soon they are joined by unexpected allies: the southern dynasts.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
Firstly, Walhart possesses the Conquest skill, which negates his weakness to Beast Killers, the Beastbane skill, and Armorslayers. Therefore, such weapons should be conserved rather than wasted on him.
On Hard difficulty, Walhart has chances of halving magic damage taken. It is therefore recommended to weaken him enough should a spellcaster be sent to finish the conqueror.
