“ | If someone's stronger than me, they get my respect. And if they're weaker than me, I don't waste my time. | ” | — Kjelle, to Lucina |
---|
Kjelle (Japanese: デジェル Degel) is a playable character in Fire Emblem Awakening. The daughter of Sully from the future, she travelled back from the future to aid her mother and Chrom in their war against Grima.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
In an alternate future, Kjelle grew up training as a knight under her mother, Sully. The training was harsh, but Kjelle also expressed a desire to learn how to ride a horse. After several failed attempts, Sully deemed her not cut out for the skill, which made Kjelle focus more on her bulky armor for defense. Eventually, Sully and her husband perished in a Risen attack, and Kjelle inherited her ring. Kjelle traveled back in time with Lucina and her friends to prevent the disastrous future from happening, but was separated.
Upon arriving in the past, Kjelle befriended a master warrior and his wife in Ferox and began training under the former. The warrior was challenged to a battle by Cassius, but he lost, as Cassius took a girl hostage. After the warrior's loss, he chose to spare the girl, and Cassius killed him in front of his wife and Kjelle. Despite the warrior's wife's protests, Kjelle chose to avenge her master's death and challenged Cassius to another duel, which he accepted. Upon arriving at the Dueling Grounds, Cassius summoned his army to fight Kjelle, who called the act dishonorable.
The warrior's wife explained what happened to Chrom and the Shepherds and they arrived to find Kjelle surrounded by Cassius' army. She did her best fighting off some of Cassius' soldiers, until Chrom or the present Sully spoke to her. If Chrom speaks to Kjelle, regardless of whether he is her father, Kjelle will parry a strike from him and try to oppose him. If Sully speaks to Kjelle, she will try to convince her daughter not to rush into things head-on, but changes her attitude to see that Kjelle lives this way. Regardless of who speaks to her, Sully or Chrom offer to help Kjelle finish the duel she started, which she accepts.
After Cassius's defeat, Kjelle and Sully met up again. They showed each other their rings, with Sully acknowledging Kjelle as her future daughter and immediately putting her on a strict training regimen.

Endings
Kjelle, Fair Fighter (single ending)
Knowing her battle had not yet ended, Kjelle set off on a new quest of self-discovery. Her sincerity led to much heartbreak along the way, but each painful lesson further hardened her as a warrior.
Robin, High Deliverer & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of his origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—he loved his wife, Kjelle, above all else.
Owain, Chosen One & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Owain set off on a lengthy quest with Kjelle to "stay his sword hand." ...The idea was actually Kjelle's, and he was just along while she trained, but she had the grace to let his delusions continue.
Inigo, Flower Picker & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Inigo traveled the world, ever ready with a smile or a solution when trouble started to brew. He and Kjelle continued to perfect their respective skills as crowd pleaser and champion.
Brady, Daunting Priest & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Brady left the priesthood to become the world's scariest violinist. Never one to pass up an opportunity for self-improvement, Kjelle took up music, too. Their tight duets were said to spring from a single muse.
Gerome, Masked Rider & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Gerome and Kjelle were married and settled near Wyvern Valley, which Kjelle soon refashioned into her ideal training ground. Many claimed to see her running uphill in full armor for days on end.
Morgan, Gift from Afar & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Morgan's memory never returned, but he didn't seem to miss it much and lived happily with Kjelle. Later, scholars would speculate he had come from a different future than the other children.
Yarne, Timid Taguel & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Yarne tried desperately to find a safe haven after the battles were done, but even that journey was fraught with danger—especially as Kjelle insisted on facing every foe to better herself as a warrior.
Laurent, The Elucidator & Kjelle, Fair Fighter
Longing to meet his mother's intellectual standards, Laurent took his wife on an expedition around the world. As Kjelle, too, valued self-discovery, the pair were said to be nearly inseparable.

Trivia
- Kjelle's birthday, September 29th, corresponds to a date which falls within the broadcasting schedule of the initial broadcast of the first episode of Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga in 1997.
- Unlike most other children characters of Awakening, whose birthdays correspond to the first days of their games' release, Kjelle's birthday does not fall on the exact date of the first transmission of Archanea Saga; September 29th was the second day of the first episode's initial broadcast.
- This also makes Kjelle one of only two children, the other being Morgan, whose birthday does not correspond to the release date of a game in the main Fire Emblem series.
- Kjelle is the only one of the children characters who possesses a class tree that their fixed parent does not (in this case the Knight tree) that is not the result of a swap involving gender-exclusive class trees.
