No—I'm a swordswoman, a Myrmidon, like my mother before me! I'm the daughter of Eyvel of Fiana! No mere bandit could defeat me!
— Mareeta

Mareeta (Japanese: マリータ Mareeta) is a princess of the fallen Rivough nobility of Isaach, the daughter of its Prince Galzus and a full-blooded descendant of the Crusader Od.

As a child, she was abducted by slave traders in Conote and separated from Galzus, and was rescued and adopted by the mercenary Eyvel and lived with her in the Thracian village of Fiana. As a member of Eyvel's Fiana Freeblades, she helped to fight bandit aggression across Thracia's east coast, until she and her friend Nanna were abducted by Raydrik of Munster, sparking the rise of Leif's revolution army.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Role

Mareeta and Nanna appear during the opening of Chapter 1: The Warrior of Fiana being abducted by Raydrik. Her abduction spurs Leif and Eyvel to journey to Munster to rescue the pair.

A while later, during Chapter 5: Mother and Daughter, Mareeta is seen again in Munster during Leif's escape of the castle. Nanna and Eyvel are trapped in a large open room with several enemy combatants. Raydrik tells Eyvel that she may see her daughter again if the opponents are defeated. After Eyvel defeats the opponents, Raydrik lets Mareeta into the ring. Unfortunately, Mareeta is under the control of a cursed sword and attacks Eyvel. It is possible, though unlikely, for Mareeta to die here; this will only occur if the player forces Eyvel to attack Mareeta. Once Leif opens the entrance to the arena, Veld and Raydrik, who were spectating the fighting, leave the area, taking Mareeta and a now petrified Eyvel with them.

During Chapter 6: The Escape Galzus, working as a mercenary in Munster, rescues Mareeta from Raydrik and hands her over to Saias. Galzus asks the bishop to heal her, and denies knowing her when asked.[1]

Several chapters later, during Chapter 12: The Thieves of Dakia, Mareeta has been saved from the curse by Saias. Saias gives her the Shadow Sword, now purified and named Mareeta's Sword, and reassures her that it wasn't her fault for attacking Eyvel and that she should move on. After Saias's departure, bandits happen upon the house and woman she was left in, and she goes out to drive them off. In a turn of good fortune, Leif's forces happen to be in the area and she rejoins with them at this point.

If Eyvel is rescued during Chapter 24x: The Altar of Loptr the pair reunite and Mareeta tells the disoriented Eyvel that she has been petrified and that Raydrik was defeated.

Mareeta's actions after Leif's forces merged with Seliph's are unknown, as she does not appear in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Mareeta is similar to Shiva in many ways. Her FCM of 5 makes her likely to crit on her second attack. She wields Mareeta's Sword, a personal brave sword that provides Nihil to the wielder. She joins with very low HP, defense, and strength; she is easy to train, but barely does anything at base level. When she is fully trained, however, she is one of the best offensive units in the game. With her Luna skill letting her ignore defenses, and the ability to gain Astra via a conversation with Shannam, a trained Mareeta can annihilate anything.

Mareeta has the misfortune of joining Leif's army at a time when excellent fighting skills are not as valuable as they were before. In many maps after she joins, aspects like staff utility and stealing are more important than good combat. Furthermore, she cannot even fight well without investment. Her action star gives her a 5% chance to act again upon completing her turn, but it is just a novelty. Mareeta also gets Adept after promotion, but it is typically overkill; between Astra, Luna, and training benefits, she will one-round anything regardless.

Overall, Mareeta is a growth unit with high combat potential, but she struggles to contribute anything meaningful when she joins.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Mareeta is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Thracia 776 character set. She is also present as an enemy in the first and third installments of the Lost Bloodlines DLC series.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Role

There are two different variations of Mareeta available to Heroes, both based on her storyline appearance in Thracia 776. The normal variation of Mareeta is one of the characters added to the game in the The Dream update, and became available for summoning by players on December 6, 2019. A Shadow Sword-corrupted variation of Mareeta was added to the game in the A Home Unknown update, and became available for summoning by players on May 10, 2019. Mareeta is one of a very few characters to date who had a special variation made available to players before their normal variation in which the normal variation has actually been added to the game, with other examples being Sigrun, Louise, and Wolt. In particular, Mareeta shares the exact same distinction of having a special Fallen Hero variation as her first appearance in Heroes with Hardin.

Mareeta, Sword of Stars
Still ashamed of her lack of discipline for having been possessed by the Shadow Sword, Mareeta embarked on a journey to train and better herself—alone. Before long, she grew into a formidable swordswoman, one whose name was known throughout the continent. But no matter how well-known she became, she would always say, "I'm nothing compared to my mother."
