Appearance(s)

Serra (Japanese: セーラ Serra) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. She is a spirited cleric, specializing in healing staves to aid injured party members.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Role

Serra is a healer working for Ostia. Initially, she is being escorted by the young mage Erk.

Lyn's tale

In Beyond the Borders, Chapter 5 in Lyn's story, Serra is first seen as an NPC character, along with her escort, Erk. Speaking to her with Lyn or simply clearing the chapter will recruit her. She then becomes a member of "Lyndis's Legion". If she falls in Chapter 5, she will instead send Erk to join "Lyndis's Legion" and state that she is too hurt to continue, and must wait behind on the path to let her wounds heal.

Eliwood/Hector's tale

Serra is automatically recruited in Chapter 13 of Eliwood's story, and Chapter 12 in Hector's. She is traveling with Hector and his small crew from Ostia when she reappears.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Serra joins as a Cleric very early in The Blazing Blade. In Lyn mode, she joins in Chapter 5; in Eliwood mode, she joins in Chapter 13, and in Hector mode, she joins in Chapter 12. Her base magic is very low, and she is very frail, but she has a good magic growth and a base D rank in staves, which allows her to use Mend. Her growths are fairly good with the exception of defense. Having a healer in the early game is useful, especially on harder difficulties, as other units cannot always use a Vulnerary to heal themselves.

Serra is outclassed by Priscilla, who joins in Chapter 14; Priscilla has better stats, a better base staff rank at C, and she is mounted, providing her with higher movement. While Serra can be useful after Priscilla joins, usually there is no need for more than one healer in The Blazing Blade, and Pent is available once there is. Serra requires a significant amount of investment to keep up, which she struggles to get as she cannot fight and staves give very little experience. Serra does have unique utility in the desert chapter, as desert does not impede her movement unlike Priscilla. Even if she is not extensively trained there, she can still use staves for support.

Additionally, the Guiding Ring—the item Clerics need to promote—is a very competitive promotion item in The Blazing Blade. There are many units who need that item to promote, such as Priscilla, Erk, and Canas. Serra's promotion increases her staff experience significantly; it additionally grants her access to light magic, but the low might of most light magic will limit her damage without significant magic gained through level-ups.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Serra is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Fire Emblem character set. She is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series.

Personality

Serra often comes off as self-centered and selfish, but she does watch out for the well-being of others, sometimes placing their needs above her own.

She struggles to show empathy, but at times, she breaks down and sympathizes with others (as shown in her and Lucius’ A support).

She does sometimes demand things of others, but never chooses to enforce her demands.

Over all, Serra is a kind and caring person, but due to her upbringing, usually shows a me-first attitude to others.

Endings

Lyn's tale

Serra, Cleric of Ostia
Ultimately, Erk succeeds in seeing Serra safely to Ostia. While her behavior is irritating at best, she is sorely missed. Her ascerberic tongue has become legendary.

Serra, Cleric of Ostia (if Serra was defeated)
Wounded in battle, Serra decides that a life of quiet meditation is the best course. She bids Lyn farewell and joins service in Ostia.

Eliwood/Hector's tale

Serra, Outspoken Cleric
Serra returned to Ostia. She spent much time tending to her own affairs, but lately, she has begun to enjoy her free time.

Erk and Serra
After the battle, Erk returned to his studies. His newfound feelings for Serra were an unwelcome distraction. In Ostia, Serra declared she would “live for love” with Erk, and Marquess Ostia gladly saw her off.

Matthew and Serra
Matthew returned to Ostia, where he led the network of spies for the new marquess. During this hectic time, his thoughts turned to Serra. Thanks to her, the pain of losing Leila slowly became more bearable.

Oswin and Serra
Oswin returned to Ostia, where his duties as minister to the new marquess kept him busy. Serra clung to him intensely, despite his protests. Finally, her innocent stubbornness won his heart and eased his weary mind.

Serra's (left two) and Elen's (right two) sprites as Cleric/Priest (top two) and Bishop (bottom two).
  • Serra's combat sprites differ from those of other Clerics/female Priests and female Bishops such as Elen (pictured): Serra's robe has a different style, and she does not wear a miter on her head.
  • Three of the units in Serra's SpotPass team in Fire Emblem Awakening represent the three characters that she can have pairings with for her possible endings in The Blazing Blade (Erk, Oswin, and Matthew).

English

Serra

A feminine name derived from "Sarah," a name used in English, French, German, Hebrew, Arabic, and Biblical Hebrew. "Sarah" means "lady" or "princess" in Hebrew. This was the name of the wife of Abraham in the Old Testament, who became the mother of Isaac at the age of 90. In England, Sarah came into use after the Protestant Reformation.[3] Incidentally, serra is also Latin for "saw," which matches her abrasive demeanor extremely well.
