“ | This is all written! | ” | — Validar |

Validar (Japanese: ファウダー Fauder) is one of the main antagonists in Fire Emblem Awakening. He is the leader of the Grimleal, a cult from Plegia that worships the Fell Dragon Grima. Validar is a sorcerer who wields dark magic. He is the wielder of Grima's Truth.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Before the events of the game the Grimleal and Validar's ancestors sought to create the perfect vessel for Grima; this vessel was eventually born but stolen away in the night by the mother. In the years since Validar has searched for the vessel, his child, to revive Grima. Validar also requires the Fire Emblem and its five spheres to perform the ritual to revive Grima.
Validar initially appears in Robin's premonition as the only enemy of the chapter.
In the present, he appears during Chapter 6 accompanied by his hired band of assassins. He attempts to kill Emmeryn, but is thwarted by Lucina arriving from the future and informing Chrom of the assassination ahead of time. During the battle Validar is killed; however Grima, who arrived from the future with Lucina, appears before him and revives him.
Two years later, after the death of Gangrel, Validar has become the king of Plegia. When Walhart threatens to invade Ylisse, Chrom and Robin seek council with Validar to fend off the Valmese empire. Validar allows them to use some of Plegia's ships and funds against Valm. Outside of their formal meeting Validar appears before Robin in a vision and informs Robin of their status as Grima's vessel and his child.
After the defeat of the Valmese empire Chrom and Robin return to Validar after he offers to gift Sable to their cause. Validar has, however, used the offer as a trap to attempt to kill the Shepherds and take Robin. While Chrom is able to fend off the ambush Validar is able to take control of Robin temporarily and make Robin hand over the Fire Emblem.
Chrom's forces intercept Validar at the Dragon's Temple while the latter performs the ritual to revive Grima. Validar is unsuccessful in the revival and controlling Robin due the gemstones in the Fire Emblem being preemptively switched with fakes. In the ensuing battle Validar is killed, and the Grima that arrived with Lucina from the future appears and accepts the sacrifices laid at the table by the Plegian populace and is able to revive himself regardless of the fake gemstones.

Role
Validar appears as a boss in Chapter 3 and Chapter 5 of Story mode and is one of the primary antagonists of the Invisible Ties History Mode map.
In Chapter 3 Validar, accompanied by the Gristonne army, has taken over the Dragon Valley Temple and cornered Robin within; he is repelled by Lianna and Rowan's forces.
Validar reappears in Chapter 5 at the Dragon's Table, once again accompanied by the Gristonne army, and is able to take over Robin and make him attack Chrom. It is unclear what ritual Validar was attempting to perform at the Dragon's Table located in realm of Warriors.
Like Gharnef and Iago, It is never stated why Validar joined Gristonne's cause in reviving Velezark.

Personality and character
Validar is a zealous and deluded member of the Grimleal who worships Grima as a God. He has no apparent greater goal in serving Grima other than to see the world burn; when Lucina tries to tell him that Grima will destroy the world, he simply expresses his hope that the calamity will match her nightmares. Validar is also a deep believer in the principle of fate, and repeatedly asserts to Chrom and his companions that their destinies cannot be changed.
