The Fall of Renais

“ | ...This is war, isn't it? It's not at all like the games I used to play with my brother or Lyon. I never thought-- I didn't know it would be this...savage. Are words useless? Is strength all that matters? | ” | — Eirika |

The Fall of Renais (Japanese: ルネス陥落 Renais's Fall) is the prologue chapter in The Sacred Stones. In this chapter, Eirika and Seth escape from Castle Renais as it is invaded by Grado soldiers.
Plot
- Main article: The Fall of Renais/Script
As with other games, this game starts with a narration of the history of the game's continent, in this case the history of Magvel.
When troops from Grado invade Renais, King Fado sends Eirika, along with his loyal retainer Seth, to the neighboring country of Frelia for safety. As the two exit the castle, they are confronted by the Moonstone, Valter, who attacks Seth, dealing him a nasty blow. Seth quickly grabs Eirika and escapes, riding off into the mountains. Later, O'Neill and two of his underlings catch up with Eirika and Seth, and engage them in battle. Having defeated their oppressors, Eirika and Seth continue their journey to Frelia.
Beginning log
The continent of Magvel. For some 800 years, a quiet peace reigned in the absence of the terrible darkness. The Sacred Stones have been passed from generation to generation. Nations have been built around their power and their legacy.
The kingdom of Renais, ruled by Fado, the peerless Warrior King.
The kingdom of Frelia, ruled by Hayden, the venerable Sage King.
The kingdom of Jehanna, ruled by Ismaire, Queen of the White Dunes.
The theocracy of Rausten, ruled by Mansel, the Divine Emperor.
The Grado Empire, ruled by Vigarde, the stalwart Silent Emperor.
These five countries house the power of the Sacred Stones. They are joined by the emerging mercantile republic of Carcino.
In these times of peace, tales of past conflict have drifted into legend, and memories of the ancient dark arts have all but evaporated. It is now the year 803... In an instant, the whole of Magvel is threatened by an unexpected atrocity. The Grado Empire, the largest of the Sacred Stone nations, has invaded the kingdom of Renais under orders from Emperor Vigarde. A longtime ally of Grado, Renais is caught off guard, unable to mount any resistance. Grado's forces move quickly, seizing one territory after another. Compounding King Fado's worries, his son, Prince Ephraim, has gone missing. Grado's momentum carries its armies to the gates of Castle Renais itself. Renais will fall... It is inevitable.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
On easy mode the game provides a scripted tutorial to guide the player through this chapter; it is impossible to lose.
On normal and hard modes a similar strategy to the scripted tutorial may be used, together Eirika and Seth can take out the enemy Fighters with ease.
Depending on which units the player wishes to use later in the game it may be recommended to not use Seth at all to provide Eirika with more experience, though both Eirika or Seth are fully capable of defeating all the units by themselves. Regardless of the player's goals, Eirika can bait the fighters and dodge their attacks fairly consistently. If Eirika is hurt use a Vulnerary to keep her HP up.
