“ | Yeah, I just can't believe I was stupid enough to work for the empire. I'm so ashamed... | ” | — Febail |
---|
Febail (Japanese: ファバル Faval) is the heir to the Yngvi dukedom of Grannvale, son of Brigid and inheritor of the Yewfelle. Orphaned in the aftermath of the Battle of Belhalla at a young age along with his sister Patty, he worked as a mercenary in the Munster District in an effort to support the orphanage in which he was raised. This led him reluctantly to the employ of Bloom of the Grannvale Empire, whom he later abandoned to join Patty in Seliph's liberation army.
If Brigid was not married in the course of the first generation, Febail's role is filled by Asaello.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Role
Febail's services as a mercenary were employed by Bloom of Friege in a bid to raise forces to oppose Seliph's army as it closed in on Connacht, to which Febail reluctantly accepted, in desperate need of the funds. He was convinced to stand down by Patty, now allied with Seliph, and himself joined the liberation force.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Febail is a level 9 Bow Fighter and his primary usefulness is right after he joins. In his joining chapter, he finds himself next to Ishtar, a powerful boss who very few units can kill. However, Febail can kill her in one round with the Yewfelle, a Holy Weapon he inherits from his mother, Brigid. He is the only unit who can use it in the second generation of Genealogy, making him excellent at 2-range combat thanks to the bow’s outstanding might and stat bonuses.
Febail’s main problem is his lack of a mount. Febail will always fall behind mounted units and will never gain movement naturally, because his promotion does not grant a movement increase. The Leg Ring can help him keep up, but many stronger units compete for it, and some stand more to gain from it than Febail does.
Febail’s other issue is his lack of 1-range combat. This prevents Febail from countering 1-range enemies, making his enemy phase potential very low. He can only fight on enemy phase if he faces an entire group of 2-range enemies, a situation that never happens in the second generation of Genealogy. Between that and his low movement, Febail will seldom contribute much to the army beyond his joining chapter, where he has the honor of reliably killing Ishtar in one round.
Fortunately, Febail does not lack positive traits. His 2-range combat is excellent — he will always have the highest bow rank and will inherit the Yewfelle from his mother, and also other bows from her inventory. He also has Follow-Up regardless of his father, making his performance very similar regardless of his parentage. This makes him the most powerful archer by far in the second generation, although Lester has a mount to make up for his lower attacking power.
Since Febail can reliably clear the arena in every chapter, he can be paired with a unit with weak combat who struggles to get gold. This will allow that unit to gain the money they need through Febail. Febail can also be effective at killing difficult bosses after his joining chapter, especially if his father is Alec, because then he gains Nihil. However, because of his movement issues and other Holy Weapon users existing in the second generation, he faces strong competition in that department.
Febail may inherit additional offensive skills from certain fathers, or Paragon from Lex, but they do not significantly affect his ability to contribute. Conversely, Febail is also immune to “bad” pairings. Even with a magic-oriented father like Azelle or Claud, the Yewfelle and Follow-Up will keep his 2-range combat good. Thanks to that, he is among the most reliable units in the second generation of Genealogy, because he will perform at a similar level regardless of circumstances.
