Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Isadora is a level 1 Paladin who joins in Chapter 21 (Eliwood Mode) or Chapter 22 (Hector Mode). As expected from a unit who joins promoted, her bases are solid, but her growths are mediocre. Isadora's main advantage is her class. The Paladin class is among the best promoted classes in the game. It has perfect weapon triangle control and very high movement. It also has access to 1–2 range weaponry and Canto. With an A-rank in swords, a B-rank in lances and a D-rank in axes, Isadora can use a huge arsenal of weapons at base. This allows her to adapt to enemies she fights and use the right weapon for every situation. She also requires no investment from the player, while the three Cavaliers will need a Knight Crest to promote, the second of which can only be obtained at the end of the chapter she joins in.
Isadora's main disadvantage is her low constitution. Almost every weapon she can wield also weighs her down by several points. Fortunately, her speed is high, so she can still double most enemies even if weighed down. That said, this flaw makes her worse at using 1-2 range weapons than a trained Kent or Sain, as even the basic Javelin weighs her down by 5. She also needs to use the right weapon for every situation, or she can fall short of one-rounding enemies, either because she cannot double (due to weapon weight), or because she cannot deal enough damage. While her 13 base strength is solid, it can not be enough when wielding low-might weapons. There are also times where she will have to choose between different weapons This makes using Isadora much more limiting than it seems, as while she can use many weapons, she needs specific weapons to fight certain enemies well.
Isadora's durability is also mediocre. 8 defense, 6 resistance, and 28 HP are very low for a Paladin. By comparison, Marcus, who is available from the start of the game, has 10 defense, 8 resistance, and 31 HP at base level. Isadora joins with an Angelic Robe she can use to increase her bulk by 7, but other units can use it as well. She is not too frail that she cannot take a hit or two, but she compares poorly to units like Raven, who also have solid offenses. This also makes it more risky to do enemy phase combat with Isadora.
There are also ways to improve Isadora's combat at a low cost. If she receives the Body Ring, it is easier to take advantage of Isadora's high speed, and few other units want it as much as her. She can also use the Angelic Robe she comes with, increasing her HP by 7. As a frontline fighter, she is a good recipient of the Dracoshield and the Talisman as well. While her growths are mediocre, these investments can still increase Isadora's long-term potential, though plenty of other units will want these items as well.
