Kaden (Japanese: ニシキ Nishiki) is a character in Fire Emblem Fates. He is the leader of a village of Kitsune in Hoshido.

Biography

Birthright

Kaden wanders off of his mountain and is helped by a band of humans; due to his code of honor and a chain of helpful people, he ends up wandering all the way to Cyrkensia. In Chapter 12, he considers himself indebted to the dancer Layla, who wishes to visit her dying grandmother but cannot due to a scheduled performance for King Garon of Nohr. Kaden meets Corrin and his/her band and arranges for their dancer Azura to take Layla's place. Now feeling indebted to Corrin, he joins their group and serves alongside them throughout the war between Hoshido and Nohr.

Conquest

Kaden appears in Chapter 19 of the Conquest path as a boss. Corrin decides to pass through kitsune-inhabited mountains in Hoshido to bypass a large Hoshidan army, at the advice of Azura. A while after Corrin and their party begin to ascend, Kaden and the rest of the kitsune attack Corrin's force, as they do all intruders, and possible poachers. Kaden does mention that he has encountered nothing but kindness from humans outside the mountains, but he learned from his elders that any humans approaching their mountain bear ill will.

Kaden is massacred along with the rest of the resident kitsune in the ensuing battle.

Revelation

Kaden makes his way to Cyrkensia and befriends the wolfskin Keaton. The two witness the town apparently destroying itself, and are quickly attacked by invisible soldiers. Dazed and battered, the two stumble upon Corrin and his/her company, who quickly heal them. They explain their story and join the group in order to stop the incoming battle between Hoshidan and Nohrian forces.

Fire Emblem Heroes

There are two different variations of Kaden available to Heroes, both of which are tied to his storyline appearance in Fates. The normal variation of Kaden is one of the characters added to the game in the A King's Worth update, and became available for summoning by players on February 20, 2019. A New Year's-themed variation of Kaden was made available between the period of January 1, 2021 through February 1, 2021 as part of the summoning event surrounding the Beyond Dreaming update.
