Witches' Trial (Japanese: 魔女の試練場 The Witch's Trial Grounds) is a downloadable content xenologue chapter in Fire Emblem Fates. Witch's Trial is part of the second series of Japanese DLC releases and the first series of international DLC releases.
This chapter was first made available on October 8, 2015 in Japan; April 21, 2016 in North America; July 14 in Europe; and July 15 in Australia.
In this chapter, Anna tasks the player with taking on a challenge in a land quite obviously not on Corrin's army's home continent as part of a trial hoping to earn a special item. The map is based off of the map "Fear Mountain" from Fire Emblem Gaiden, although the map layout is shared with a few other locations in Gaiden.

As we arrive in an area that appears to resemble Fear Mountain in the Valentian nation of Rigel, Anna welcomes Corrin and his/her army to the Outrealm Trial Grounds. Anna asks someone (presumably Corrin himself/herself) if they are a magical maestro that hurts people with their brain and loves brooms, then tells them that this is the trial for them; all they need to do is beat the challenge and they'll get a magical gift. Anna introduces the trial as being called "When Hill Witches Attack", noting that it sounds scary but states she knows Corrin has it under control; Anna then states that Witches can show up out of nowhere and to watch out for that. Anna asks Corrin if s/he has what it takes to dispel the curse, to which some witches take some time to show up; Anna states she'll be off and tells Corrin and his/her army to have fun. Preparations take place at this point; the battle begins once preparations are finished. Right as the battle begins, the game states that witches can warp to any space adjacent to one of their allies and to beware of it.
Once the battle ends, Anna notes that Corrin's army has won, and asks them if they are professional witchbusters, and states that she needs to remind herself never to put any curses on them; at this point, Anna states it's reward time and she states that she gives to the army a Witch's Mark, and with it, it will allow someone to copy the techniques of the foes seen that day; she then bids farewell.

Character data
Note: The returning characters list represents the minimum characterbase recruitable by the point the player can first access the Dragon's Gate. Felicia is only a returning character if Corrin is male, while Jakob is only a returning character if Corrin is female. If more chapters along the chosen main story path are cleared, or if any paralogues are cleared, the player can have access to characters not listed here by the point the chapter is first started. As bonus units are recruitable at the player's discretion, the returning characters list does not list them either.

Strategy

As the tip mentions before gaining control of units, Witches have the ability to warp themselves to an adjacent ally. In turn, this means they can attack a unit who is three tiles away from a hostile force. It is recommended to take out the regular enemies as soon as possible to avoid the Witches warping to your allies, while the ones with slayer weapons should also be dealt with since they can Dual Strike with the witch. Tomebreaker is a good skill to have here so as to avoid damage, meaning Felicia and Jakob really shine in this xenologue.
On turns 9 and 11, two reinforcement Witches have special items. The one to the right of the boss has Rimmed Glasses, and the Witch in Pair Up carries a Warp manual, respectively. If the boss is defeated these will not appear.
Trivia
- This chapter is the only one from the Japanese second series of DLC whose official website description is identical between both the American and PAL regions' official websites.

Witches' Trial |
Notably the only one of the three class-change item chapters in the Japanese second series of DLC to retain the word "trial" in its official localized name. This is possibly a double entendre, referring to witch (legal) trials. |
