For this trial, you'll be fighting ballisticians from another realm. Oooh! Exciting! Sound too good to be true? Well, dear customer, 'twould be, 'twould be, but for the wonders of capitalism!
— Anna

Ballistician Blitz (Japanese: 砲手の試練場 The Gunner's Trial Grounds) is a downloadable content xenologue chapter in Fire Emblem Fates. Ballistician Blitz is part of the second series of Japanese DLC releases and the first series of international DLC releases.

This chapter was first made available on October 1, 2015 in Japan; April 14, 2016 in North America; July 7; and July 8 in Australia.

In this chapter, Anna tasks the player with taking on a challenge in a land quite obviously not on Corrin's army's home continent as part of a trial hoping to earn a special item.

As we arrive in an area that appears to resemble Fort Menedy in the Archanean nation of Gra, Anna welcomes Corrin and his/her army to the Outrealm Trial Grounds. Anna asks someone (presumably Corrin himself/herself) if they are a powerful warrior and wish to become even more powerful, then tells them that they're in the right place and to prepare to be mightified; all they need to do is overcome a special trial and they'll score powerful swag. Anna introduces the trial as being called the "Bombastic, Bomb-tastic Broomfight"—then deduces that that name can't possibly be right; she asks someone called Jerry what the correct title is, then reveals that the last word is supposed to be "Boomfight". Anna reveals that, in this trial, Corrin and his/her army will be fighting ballisticians from another realm; when asked if it's too good to be true, she states it would be but for the wonders of capitalism. Anna states that all she needs is a nominal fee to get set up, then as she counts the money, tells Corrin to enjoy the fight; she states that she'll be hiding in a nearby bunker (in reality a village), then reveals they'll know why in just a second, then states she doesn't give out refunds. Preparations take place at this point; the battle begins once preparations are finished.

Once the battle ends, Anna notes that Corrin's army has survived and promises them a reward; she states she might call it a "dynamite" item, then does some wordplay and asks Jerry to write it down. Once Anna picks up where she left off, she states that she presents the champion a Sighting Lens, and with it, it will allow someone to copy the techniques of the foes seen that day; she then bids farewell and tells them to remember to always bring cash.

If more chapters along the chosen main story path are cleared, or if any paralogues are cleared, the player can have access to characters not listed here by the point the chapter is first started. As bonus units are recruitable at the player's discretion, the returning characters list does not list them either.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

While it may look deceiving, the Ballisticians have a large attack range thanks to their built-in turrets. This allows them to deal damage to units without engaging in direct battle, or move away with the turret when needed. The cannons, like normal turrets, cannot kill enemies but leave them at 1 HP for other allies to finish the threat. Flying units will struggle on this map because of their weakness to bows, though they can help cross the walls.

Cavaliers may be recommended in this xenologue to quickly reach the ballisticians before they open fire, though the damage can be somewhat ignored with a good Defense.

On Turn 5, a Ballistician with the Sunglasses accessory appears in the eastern fort. He can be troublesome due to his Trample dealing additional pain to unmounted forces on Normal difficulty, but becomes extra tough around Hard where the Point Blank skill removes his inability to counterattack adjacent units.

The boss Ballistician on the west side possesses a Shortbow, meaning he is also dangerous to engage. However, he can potentially be felled quickly and afterwards have a high-Movement unit seize the castle.

On Hard difficulty, more enemies appear on this map. Notably additional Ballisticians behind the boss and the reinforcement from the eastern fort gets supported in a Pair Up.
