“ | Oh, foolish Corrin...Did you really expect to be able to break through the rib cage of an elder dragon? There's only one way out of here, and I assure you, it isn't pleasant. Also, you'll die. In case that wasn't clear. | ” | — Iago |

Fort Dragonfall (Japanese: 黒竜砦 Black Dragon Fortress) is the twentieth chapter of the Birthright campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin and his/her army find themselves trapped inside a long-dormant dragon revived by Iago's magic and find themselves against Faceless inside. Corrin and his/her army must fight through the Faceless in order to have Azura quell the dragon with the magic of her song.

Fort Dragonfall/Script
Back in the Woods of the Forlorn, we witness Corrin, Ryoma, and Takumi teleport onto the scene; as Corrin notes the group having returned to Nohr, Takumi asks if what went on with the Rainbow Sage actually happened or if it was a dream, to which Ryoma states it wasn't a dream and that the wisdom imparted to the group was real and that he's never been more ready to face Garon. Corrin brings up the fact that the Rainbow Sage also stated that the Nohrian army passed through this area looking for them and thus they should head in the opposite direction, to which Ryoma suggests the group head northeast onto a direct route that will take them very close to Castle Krakenburg; Ryoma states that they may have evaded Nohrian forces for the time being, but they can't drop their guard for a moment, to which Corrin agrees.
We cut to Fort Dragonfall, where we witness Corrin gazing at the fort's size and asks Ryoma if the group's going to have to go through it, to which Ryoma states that the fort is the fastest way to Castle Krakenburg; Ryoma states that the fort's enclosed space will actually favor them if they encounter resistance, as a large army can't surround them inside, to which Corrin states that to be a solid strategy. Corrin then states that he/she is fascinated by the structure and that he/she can't wait to see the inside, to which Ryoma states that the fort was partially built from the remains of a dragon, to which Corrin deduces this to be the reason it's called Fort Dragonfall. Ryoma states that the bones and carcass of the dragon never seemed to deteriorate after its death, and someone eventually had the idea to incorporate them into Fort Dragonfall; he also notices that the fort is currently unguarded and calls for the group to move inside.
We cut to inside the fort, where we witness Corrin, Ryoma, Takumi, Azura, Hinoka, and Sakura enter from the western entrance; Corrin states that one would think the Nohrian army would have left somebody to guard the fort and that they appear to have abandoned a major facility, to which Ryoma states that he's surprised that the Nohrian army didn't put up even a token resistance and that something doesn't feel right. The fort then starts shaking, prompting a reaction from Corrin, with Ryoma suggesting that they could have felt an earthquake and that the group should evacuate the fort for the time being; Ryoma and Sakura attempt to escape only to find the exit blocked to Ryoma's shock. Corrin asks why Ryoma isn't moving, to which Ryoma states that the exit disappeared, prompting Corrin to deduce the exit to be an illusion; a mysterious voice tells Corrin that the exit disappearing wasn't an illusion, to which Corrin appears to recognize the mysterious voice. Iago teleports onto the scene and states that he lost the element of surprise, to which Corrin asks Iago what he's doing and reveals that he's outnumbered; Iago states that he'd never be physically present during a battle in this location and there's no need to get his hands dirty, to which Corrin asks Iago what his plan is--and that if said plan was to destroy the fort on top of Corrin's army, also asks Iago if he knows that the fort is made out of an indestructible dragon, to which Iago confirms everything and reveals that the dragon is more indestructible than anyone in Corrin's army can imagine. Corrin starts to ask Iago what he's talking about before noticing acid on the floor, to which Iago states it to be stomach acid and reveals that Corrin's army is about to be dinner for a dragon that hasn't eaten for a long time; Azura deduces that Iago's reviving the dragon and that this scene isn't an illusion, to which Iago confirms the scene is real and dares Azura to dip her toes into the acid, before revealing that Garon's entrusted him with some new powers, to which Azura states that she should have known Iago couldn't have done this on his own. Iago playfully mocks Azura's statement and states that he can ignore her statement as Corrin's entire army is about to die; Corrin states that the group should simply be able to break through the walls to get back outside and asks for assistance, only to fail to make a dent. Iago states that there's only one way out of this dragon and that it's not pleasant, and that they'll die in the process, then tells them to sit back and enjoy being digested; Iago states that he can summon a few new friends for the army to play with, then summons a pair of Faceless into the area and states that they could perhaps kill the army before they're digested and that he'll be watching the proceedings from a cozy chair at Castle Krakenburg. As Iago teleports away from the scene, Corrin asks what the group can do if their weapons and magic aren't making a dent in the walls, to which Azura asks if she could sing; Corrin states that he/she doesn't want Azura to suffer, to which Azura states that her song could be the only thing that could break the curse on the giant dragon. Corrin brings up what happened the previous time she sang, to which Azura tells him/her not to worry--she may suffer a bit but she'll come out fine in the end, and that she can deal with some pain if it means saving everybody's lives; Azura states that the army should defeat the Faceless before she begins singing, as her song can be disrupted by sounds the Faceless make and that her song won't be powerful enough to break Iago's spell until the Faceless are gone. Corrin asks Azura to promise not to do any permanent damage to herself, to which Azura states that Corrin can trust her; Corrin tells everyone to stop focusing on escaping and to focus on the Faceless. Preparations take place at this point; once preparations are finished, the first Faceless reinforcements arrive as the battle begins.
Once the battle ends, Corrin, Ryoma, Takumi, Hinoka, and Silas have gathered back at the entrance standing back from Azura; Corrin states that, now that the leader of the Faceless is dead, that moment is Azura's chance, to which Azura proceeds to begin singing Lost in Thoughts All Alone. As a light emits from Azura, the fort starts shaking again, after which the walls start turning back to normal; Corrin calls on the group to attempt to break free and leave the fort while they can. We cut to a view outside, to which we witness the structure eventually stop moving; Corrin states that the ordeal was a close call and thanks Azura for her help, to which Azura states that the rest of the army did all the hard work; Corrin then proceeds to ask how Azura's feeling, to which Azura states that she's fine and that they shouldn't linger around the area for too long, recalling how Iago was able to watch them somehow and knows they escaped, and suggests fleeing while he's apologizing to Garon. Corrin starts to notice Azura acting oddly and again asks if she's feeling well, to which she reiterates that she's fine, with Corrin about to call the army back into motion when he notices something happening to Azura.
We witness Azura slumped on the ground covered in glowing spots, with her body starting to sparkle; Azura asks Corrin not to come any closer, to which Corrin asks Azura if he/she can do anything to help. Corrin notices that Azura appears to have started fading away and notices that this situation is worse than the previous time, and asks Azura if she'll be okay; Azura states that she'll be fine eventually, to which Corrin asks Azura to tell him/her the truth about her song. Azura attempts to dodge the issue by stating there's nothing more to tell and she's starting to feel better as she speaks, to which Corrin states that he saw her start to fade out of existence and asks her to tell the truth; Corrin asks Azura to be honest if she really cares about him/her and asks her if she's risking her life every time she sings her song, to which Azura a states that stronger enemies require the song to be sung stronger for her power to work--and for her song to be stronger, she needs to draw more power from her pendant and thus sustain more damage, and that if she sings long enough with enough power, she could indeed disintegrate completely. Corrin states that Azura told him/her back in Cyrkensia that there was no danger and that the song couldn't kill Azura, to which Azura apologizes for lying and states that the truth would only cause Corrin undue worry that would divert his/her focus; Corrin suggests to Azura not to use the song anymore, to which Azura states that they can't defeat Garon without her song and that she's willing to sacrifice her life to end the war. Azura reiterates that things won't come to a point where she'll end up disappearing, to which Corrin asks Azura to promise to be mindful of her own well-being, to which Azura agrees to that promise.
Summary
After the Rainbow Sage imbues the Yato with additional power, the group makes their way toward the capital of Nohr. It won't be easy to reach their destination.
