“ | I always try to avoid needless violence...but there's an exception to every rule. | ” | — Corrin to Iago in Conquest |

Corrin (pronounced /ˈkɔɹɪn/[key][1]; Japanese: カムイ Kamui) is Fire Emblem Fates's avatar unit. Corrin in Fates has two major differences compared to previous avatar units: Corrin is not fully human and is the protagonist of the story instead of a major supporting character.[2]
Like all other Nohrian and Hoshidan royalty, Corrin possesses the power of Dragon Vein, being able to alter the terrain around oneself.
Corrin is also a playable character representing the Fire Emblem series in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U as downloadable content and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of the base game.

Early life
Corrin was born to Mikoto and Anankos and was of Vallite descent. Soon after, Mikoto left Valla to marry the Hoshidan king, Sumeragi, and Corrin was accepted into the Hoshidan royal family. At a young age, Corrin traveled with Sumeragi in hopes of a parley between Hoshido and Nohr, at the suggestion of Garon. However, Garon laid a trap and killed Sumeragi, then abducted Corrin, making them his child. Since then, Corrin was locked in the northern castle, not allowed to leave it.
Corrin receives a premonition in their sleep on the events that transpire later in the game. Before the dream can be finished, Felicia and Flora wake Corrin up. Corrin explains the dream to them, as well as Jakob and Gunter. Afterward, Gunter reminds Corrin to meet Xander and his siblings Camilla, Leo, and Elise. Xander, concerned for Corrin and their life style, challenges Corrin to battle in hopes of getting them to best him. Corrin eventually does so, and was granted freedom from the castle.
Shortly after being freed, Corrin meets with Garon and is given the Ganglari as a gift from Garon. They are then ordered to kill a small group of Hoshido prisoners, including Rinkah and Kaze. Upon defeating them, Corrin spares the Hoshidan prisoners while Leo and Xander play along with one another's plan and help Corrin release the two prisoners.
The next day after, Corrin asks Garon for his forgiveness and the king gives Corrin their first mission. Xander worries about the man Garon chose to go with Corrin, stating Hans was a convict that Xander had put in prison years ago and was not to be trusted. As Corrin crossed over the bridge over the Bottomless Canyon, they come face to face with Hoshido soldiers to which Hans instigates a battle. After defeating the Hoshidans, Corrin gets surrounded by other Hoshidans and is forced to flee. Hans turns his back on Corrin and send Gunter plunging to his death. In a fit of rage, Corrin begins to tap into their hidden dragon blood and turns their arm into a long spear before they attacked Hans who promptly runs away. Ganglari then works on its own and pulls Corrin into the Bottomless Chasm to die before Lilith appears, turning into a dragon to save Corrin. After being struck by lightning, she opens a portal to the Astral Realm in order to protect Corrin.
Corrin returns back to their world, only to be captured by Rinkah. Kaze appears and brings Corrin back to Hoshido where Corrin meets their mother and siblings. However, due to their earlier childhood memories being nothing more than a deep fog, Corrin feels no connection to their family. A soldier then appears and Ryoma takes Corrin to save his other siblings, Hinoka and Sakura. After saving the siblings, they return back to the Hoshido capital and Mikoto shows Corrin their room. Corrin then decides to walk around the capital to clear their thoughts. During this time, they meet with Azura and find out she was a former Nohrian Princess who was captured by Hoshido and used as a hostage, but Mikoto treated her as her daughter.
After a few days of rest and being in the capital, Mikoto allows Corrin to walk around the capitol more before a ceremony began. At this moment, an invisible man in a cloak appeared and pulled Corrin's Ganglari from its scabbard, plunging it into the ground and causing an explosion that destroyed many buildings and killed people. Mikoto puts her life into risk and saves Corrin by using her body as a shield to protect Corrin. After Mikoto's death, Corrin becomes full of rage and transforms into a Feral Dragon. After the battle, Corrin continues to rampage and Azura sings her song which calms Corrin enough to transform back into their human form. Memories of the past then flood into Corrin and they remember how Garon killed their late father. Corrin then finds out that Yato, a sacred blade, was hidden in the statue in the middle of the plaza and is chosen by the blade to be its wielder. Azura then gives Corrin a Dragonstone to suppress their dragon form in order to keep their humanity.
Hoshido then decides to counterattack against Nohr and Corrin's dream becomes a reality. The two siblings that Corrin grew to love now force Corrin into a decision. Ryoma asks for Corrin's help while Xander asks for Corrin to return to Nohr in hopes that Garon would forgive them once again. The player must then make a choice: side with Hoshido (continuing the Birthright branch of fate), side with Nohr (starting the Conquest branch of fate), or side with neither (beginning the Revelation branch of fate).
Birthright
If Corrin sides with Hoshido, Corrin attempts to tell Xander about Garon being evil and must be stopped, but Xander refuses to believe them and attacks them in hopes of bringing them back to Nohr, but Corrin stays firm in thier decision, wanting to help stopping Garon's madness. Corrin then helps end the battle by defeating Xander, forcing Nohr to retreat for a time. Corrin is then labeled a traitor by Nohr.
Conquest
If Corrin chooses to side with Nohr, their birth family accuses Corrin of returning just to kill Queen Mikoto. Corrin's Hoshidan family attacks them in an attempt to get Corrin to return to Hoshido, but upon defeating Ryoma, the Hoshidans' retreat. Corrin is then labeled a traitor by Hoshido.
Revelation
If Corrin refuses to choose a side, both Xander and Ryoma will try to convince Corrin to join them. Corrin adamantly refuses, leading both families to battle against the Corrin. If Corrin, Azura, and Jakob/Felicia manage to successfully defeat to an enemy commander from each kingdom in less than five turns both families will retreat. Corrin is then labeled a traitor by both Hoshido and Nohr.

Creation and customization

When starting a new save file, the player is prompted to create the save's avatar. The available customization features are:
- Gender: Choose whether to play as a male or female avatar.
- Appearance: Create the physical appearance of the avatar from a set of five options:
- Face: Each gender/build combination has seven alternate face customization options.
- Hair: Each gender/build combination has twelve alternate styles to choose from.
- Hair Accessory: This option is exclusive to women, it adds things like bows to the appearance of the unit. There are five options.
- Hair Color: Thirty options.
- Voice: Various voice options exist. In the Japanese version, all voice options are provided by the same two actors: Nobunaga Shimazaki and Satomi Sato. The English voices are as follows:
English voices | |||
---|---|---|---|
Female Mature | Stephanie Lemelin | Male Mature | Cam Clarke |
Female Neutral | Marcella Lentz-Pope | Male Neutral | Yuri Lowenthal |
Female Youthful | Danielle Judovits | Male Youthful | Cam Clarke |
In all cases, the avatar will begin the game as a Nohr Prince or Nohr Princess, depending on gender.
Role
Unlike previous games in the Fire Emblem series, the avatar in Fire Emblem Fates is the protagonist of the story, instead of a partner to the main character. Being the protagonist of their game, Corrin is thus a vehicle for the player to make choices within the game that affect the story - the most prevalent choice being to side with the Black Kingdom of Nohr or the White Kingdom of Hoshido near the start of the game.
A source of conflict for Corrin stems from them being told they are blood relatives with royalty in Hoshido, but being raised by royalty in the kingdom of Nohr.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
As Fates's avatar character and protagonist, Corrin has the distinction of being the single most flexible unit in the game. They begin as a Nohr Prince(ss), a sword wielder that can also use dragonstones, but can reclass into nearly any other class through the selectable "talent" option during avatar creation, or by reaching A support with any same-gendered unit. As a royal unit, they are capable of activating Dragon Veins. Their stats are customizable and will always be very good regardless of which boon or bane they have, as they good growths in all stats except for resistance. Generally speaking, luck (Unlucky) is the most optimal bane choice, while the optimal boon will depend on class choice, typically being one of strength (Strong), magic (Clever), or speed (Fast). Though their bases are merely decent, leveling them up is both easy and well worth the investment. The six-chapter prologue will give them a headstart in terms of stats and level compared to other units, which is only amplified further by the skill Nobility. They will often be able to reach level 8-9 by the route split, and will likely reach level 10 by chapter 8, granting them access to Dragon Fang, a strong offensive skill, as well as the ability to promote, should the player feel it necessary. Overall, before taking into account boon/bane, Corrin's stats and skills tend towards them being an offensive powerhouse.
Early on, Corrin gains a personal weapon, the Yato. It is a strong sword that only becomes stronger as the game progresses, with might rivaling the Steel Sword at base and the Silver Sword around each path's halfway points, without the downsides of either. As it evolves, it grants stat bonuses that are active without even needing to equip it, meaning Corrin benefits from it even in classes that do not use swords. Corrin can additionally use dragonstones in their base class, though these are hamstrung by their inability to attack more than once in any capacity. As a result, they will likely only be able to 2RKO most enemies without investment into their magic, making them comparatively inefficient for killing enemies. Despite this, they still have a niche in dealing more damage to enemies Corrin wouldn't normally outspeed, along with allowing Corrin to tank hits well.
On top of being a strong unit in their own right, Corrin is also effective at supporting other units in their army. Their personal skill, Supportive, grants another unit enhanced offense and defense, and can be activated easily, as Corrin can support with any character in the game outside bonus units, who do not have supports. Additionally, as Corrin can select from almost any class option, they can also pass nearly any class to any other unit via Partner Seals, as their base class line, Nohr Prince(ss), is not passed.
Corrin's choice of gender has a noticeable impact on their gameplay; on top of changing their support and pair up options, the choice in gender results in a different servant unit joining early on: Felicia if Corrin is male, or Jakob if Corrin is female. The stats and reclass options of these two are very different, giving them completely distinct roles, with Felicia being almost purely a supportive unit, while Jakob has the potential to be a powerful early-game Paladin by using a Heart Seal. Due to this, as well as Jakob making great use of the Wyvern Rider tree through Partner Seals and Corrin's talent, female Corrin is often considered the more optimal of the two, although male Corrin and Felicia are still perfectly fine in their own rights. Both servants provide Corrin greater overall ability, as they both grant speed on pair up naturally and have personal skills purely designed to enhance Corrin's power and/or survivability.
By far, one of the best options for Corrin in the early-game is not reclassing; by keeping Corrin in their base class, you can prioritize the very limited amount of Heart Seals in the early-game to other units, such as reclassing Elise to Wyvern Rider, or Mozu to Archer. Corrin works just fine in their base class, especially in Conquest, where Corrin has an entire chapter of experience to themselves. This way, you can prioritize the experience of other units, and even take advantage of the added bulk from the Dragonstone while at half of their HP, allowing them to still take hits and activate Silas's personal skill Vow of Friendship. Later on, Corrin can be reclassed into a better class once their base class starts to fall off near the mid-game.
Corrin does decently well in their base class and its promotions, with Nohr Noble's access to tomes in particular being very helpful, but Corrin tends to perform best when taken into a different class. Though they will have good stats regardless, Nohr Prince(ss) is not a particularly good class, as it is foot-locked and mostly restricted to 1-range weapons. The skills of its promotions however, mainly Hoshidan Unity and Draconic Hex, can improve their capabilities even further, meaning the class line can still offer some usage. Should one wish to reclass Corrin, it is best to do so early on as E rank weapons are far more manageable in the early-game than in the mid-game. It is advisable to at least wait until learning Dragon Fang, however, as that can prove a useful trump card of sorts.
Generally, the best class options for Corrin are Dragon talent and Ninja. Dragon grants them flight, giving them exceptional mobility early on, as well as a strong weapon in axes and solid bulk. These combined traits make it exceptionally good for low turn count and efficiency playthroughs, as it can allow Corrin to easily fly towards bosses and kill them, seize points, or otherwise reach key locations such as Dragon Veins quickly. It can also gain reliable 1-2 range in tomes by promoting into Malig Knight. Ninja, on the other hand, gives them very effective combat, with great speed and reliable 1-2 range in daggers. It additionally has the ability to open any chest and door, giving it out-of-combat utility in addition to its strong combat.
As for alternative classes, Cavalier is a good option that gives them high mobility while allowing them to keep the Yato. Access to lances also gives it greater control of the weapon triangle, as well as access to helpful weapons such as the Beast Killer. It is a generally reliable option with few major downsides, though outside of Levin Sword/Bolt Naginata usage with a magic boon, it is more limited in regards to ranged attacks. Mage talent is another solid option, granting them reliable 1-2 range and incredible firepower. Though they will be frail at the start, the promotion into Dark Knight will grant them strong bulk along with great mobility and regained Yato access. Male Corrin in particular does very well as a Dark Mage, as he can take great advantage of Felicia's magic pair up bonuses to maximize his offense very early.

Corrin/Heroes stats
Role
There are thirteen different variations of Corrin available to Heroes, six male, seven female, all based on their storyline appearance in Fates. The normal variations of both male and female Corrin were available to be summoned by players from the game's initial launch. As far as special variations go, a summer-themed variation of female Corrin was made available between the period of July 28, 2017 through August 31, 2017 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Nohrian Summer update, while a New Year-themed variation of male Corrin was added to the game alongside the assets for the Happy New Year! update and made available to players in the second edition of the Tempest Trials Mini, "Stepping into the New Year", which initially ran from January 16, 2018 through January 23, 2018; the New Year-variation male Corrin is the first seasonal variant character not distributed via a Special Heroes focus, and consequently the first such variation not to be available only at five-star rarity. Dream-themed variatons of both male and female Corrin were made available on November 9, 2018 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Adrift update. A corrupted variation of female Corrin, based on the events of Mother, was first made available to be summoned by players on May 10, 2019 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the A Home Unknown update; her male counterpart was made available to be summoned by players on May 8, 2020 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Steeped in Twilight update. A variation of female Corrin termed "Child of Dusk", based on her appearance as a Nohr Noble, was first made available to players on August 31, 2020 as the game's twenty-fourth Legendary Hero. Ninja-themed variatons of both male and female Corrin were made available on November 7, 2021 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Ninja Training update; this variation of female Corrin is a Duo Hero, teamed up with Elise. Halloween variatons of both male and female Corrin, the latter of whom is based on her appearance as a Witch as depicted in Fire Emblem Cipher, were made available on October 6, 2022 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Divine Harvest update.
The corrupted version of female Corrin alongside a similar variation of young Tiki introduced in the same update notably bring colorless breath into the normal summoning pool, a weapon type not available in the game at its initial launch and previously exclusive to the Legendary Hero variaton of female Robin and the Mythic Hero Duma.

Personality and character
Being raised in isolation for nearly their entire life, Corrin has little concept of what the outside world is like, and is very ignorant as to matters of other people. Corrin is often described as naïve, and values kindness as an important part of their character. Corrin is cited by both Ryoma and Xander to be too trusting of other people, expressing fear that others might take advantage of such trustworthiness.
Corrin also has a strong aversion towards killing and violence due to them being peaceful and pacifist and only kills when they have no other choice. However, Corrin does show an aggressive and merciless side, deciding to kill when they deem it necessary, like with Iago, Hans and Garon, due to them having disregard against human lives, cannot be reasoned with, having no redeemable qualities, and to put a stop to their deceitful crimes against the innocent.

Revealed in the last Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U presentation on December 15th, 2015 alongside Bayonetta, Corrin is a newcomer in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. They were released alongside Bayonetta on February 3, 2016. Both male and female variants are playable, and the player can choose which one they want to play at will; both versions are completely identical in terms of gameplay. Corrin is the first Manakete-style character in Super Smash Bros, using their draconic powers for various attacks, like transforming their hands into claws or sprouting wings from their back, imitating the effects of the Dragon Fang skill from Fire Emblem Fates. Competitively, they perform well at a tier list ranking of 13th.
Special moves
Each of Corrin's special moves allow them to transform certain parts of their bodies into draconic forms to attack.
- Dragon Fang Shot (Japanese: 竜穿射 Dragon Fang Shot): Corrin's standard special move. Corrin morphs their hand into claws and shoots a water cannonball. This attack can paralyze distant opponents. The dragon hand bites those who are nearby. Can be charged to inflict more damage.
- Dragon Lunge (Japanese: 跳槍突 Leaping Spear Thrust): Corrin's side special move. Corrin jumps, transforms their arm into a spear, and stabs downward. Corrin stays in place if this attack strikes the ground. It is capable of pinning an opponent down. From there, Corrin can either kick the opponent, jump up, or cancel the attack.
- Draconic Ascent* (Japanese: 翔竜翼 Soaring Dragon Wings): Corrin's up special move. Corrin grows wings and soars upward. It has a wide range and the wings are capable of damaging opponents. The angle can be controlled to achieve more horizontal distance for offense or recovery.
- Counter Surge (Japanese: 反竜穿 Opposing Dragon Fang): Corrin's down special move. Like Marth, Roy, Ike, and Lucina, Corrin has a counter as their down special. Corrin takes a brief defensive stance, and when struck, will fully transform into their dragon form and unleash a water current to retaliate. Unlike the previous Counters, this attack is capable of knocking opponents upward.
- Torrential Roar (Japanese: 激流咆 Raging Stream Roar): Corrin's Final Smash. A whirlpool surrounds Corrin, pulling in nearby opponents. Corrin transforms into their dragon form and blasts the trapped opponents away with another whirlpool.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
![]() |
This article or section is a short summary of Corrin. SmashWiki features a more in-depth article. |
Corrin returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with both male and female variants. As with the other Smash 4 DLC characters, Corrin has a new Palutena's Guidance.
As a result of being one of the best characters in Smash 4, Corrin was severely nerfed during the transition from Smash 4 to Ultimate. Corrin's neutral tools and KO moves have been nerfed, and their special moves are much less useful than before. Dragon Lunge in particular travels a shorter distance and is more punishable thanks to its increased endlag. As a result of these nerfs, Corrin's representation in the metagame was nonexistent at first, but they have since received dozens of buffs that improve their standing, being ranked 42nd in the tier list.
In the World of Light, Corrin was vaporized alongside everyone else except Kirby. They can be rescued after first defeating Galeem and encountering Dharkon, and is found in Dharkon's realm.

Palutena's Guidance
Pit: For Nohr! For Hoshido! I make my own fate!
Palutena: Sounds like someone finally finished all three paths.
Viridi: When you're fighting Corrin, watch out for Dragon Fang. Corrin transforms into a dragon to attack. It's not pretty.
Palutena: Corrin has led a rough life. Having to make enemies of your family can't be easy...
Viridi: As they say, "blood is thicker than water." But they also say "A close friend is better than a distant relative," so I dunno.
Pit: But all the siblings have dragon blood in their veins, right? Why can't they just be one big, happy family?
Palutena: ...If only it were that simple.
Viridi: You're thinking about it too hard. The roots may be more important than the branches, but you need the branches to...uh...get the fruit. Or whatever.
There is no Codec Conversation about Corrin as the conversations are reused from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which Corrin did not appear in.
Spirit data
Corrin's male fighter spirit can be obtained either by completing their route in classic mode or buying it in the vault. Their female spirit can only be obtained through buying it from the vault.
Fire Emblem Cipher
Corrin is featured on thirty-nine cards in Fire Emblem Cipher, twenty depicting the default male, eighteen the default female, and one two-variant card identified as "Valla Kingdom" whose gender switches between variants (as the two variants of the "Valla Kingdom" card have the same epithet-name combination, they are considered to be the same card by the rules of Cipher). Due to the large combined number of cards depicting Corrin, the male, female, and "Valla Kingdom" variants have been split into separate tables below.
- Ten of these cards' quotes and fifteen further cards' epithets are still in raw, untranslated Japanese; these need translation.

Warriors | A hero from the world of Fire Emblem
Fates. Born in Hoshido and raised in Nohr, Corrin chose to seek peace and unite the two warring royal families. Corrin cares for both the Nohrian and Hoshidan royals. Kind and resolute, Corrin spent much of childhood locked away and so can be a bit naive at times. Corrin fights with the power of an ancient dragon and the divine blade Yato. The aura emitted by Corrin while in dragon form is extremely powerful. |

Trivia
- In an early revision of the female version of Corrin's official artwork, she has two left feet. This is assumed to be an error, and was fixed in later images.
- Unlike Awakening's avatar, Corrin's face and hair can be seen briefly in a few cutscenes, based on the default male.
- There are some alternate scenes in Fates to accommodate female Corrin's slight clothing differences.
- For Corrin's appearances in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the design of female Corrin was altered slightly. In her original design, her inner thighs and, at some angles, panties, are exposed due to there being no cloth in the area; in Super Smash Bros., these areas are covered by her leggings.
- They also made their first appearance in the game prior to the official release of Fates outside of Japan.
- As Corrin can use a Friendship Seal to gain the class of any unit they have an A support with, they can have access to the highest potential number of reclass options of any unit in Fates and the Fire Emblem series as a whole. On the Revelation route, if a male Corrin either chooses Apothecary as his secondary class tree and marries Rinkah or chooses Oni Savage as his secondary class tree and marries Midori, he will have access to 53 classes, including six from DLC.
- If different genders are counted collectively, Corrin has the most playable variations in Fire Emblem Heroes, at eleven.
