Unhappy Reunion (Japanese: 望まぬ再会 Undesired Reunion) is the tenth chapter of the Conquest campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin and their army are waiting to board a ferry toward Notre Sagesse when a Hoshidan squadron led by Takumi arrives in the area to pick a fight with the Nohrians.

Plot

Main article: Unhappy Reunion/Script

Having arrived at the Port Town of Dia en route to Notre Sagesse, Silas notes the army's smooth trip into the area and reveals that they can catch a ferry to Notre Sagesse, with Felicia/Jakob making the arrangements as they speak; Corrin states that they should the the rare opportunity to relax for a bit, with Azura in particular looking quite exhausted. Silas states he has also noticed Azura's exhaustion and notes that it hasn't been an easy journey for her, Elise has grown quite fond of Azura and has been talking to her almost nonstop since they met, and Silas states that he worries all that chatter could wear Azura out even though she's very polite; Corrin tells Silas that he may have a point and states that Azura doesn't stand a chance—once Elise starts talking, it's hard to stop her. Silas states that Elise may be making up for all of the sibling time she and Azura missed out on and finds the prospect rather heartwarming, after which Corrin starts to think over the "sibling time" concept for them, Silas apologizes to Corrin and states he didn't intend to remind them own siblings in Hoshido and asks to be forgiven for making an insensitive comment, to which Corrin tells Silas not to worry as he/she was actually thinking of something else, proceeding to think about what Azura almost said earlier over the implication Elise and Azura might not actually be sisters. Silas asks Corrin what is wrong, to which Corrin states nothing is wrong, they were just lost in thought, after which Silas asks Corrin they are sure about that; Silas then notes Felicia/Jakob arriving on the scene and notes that they appear to be out of breath and starts to wonder what is wrong. Felicia/Jakob declares there to be an emergency and reveals that Hoshidan forces are on their way to this area as they speak, and will arrive in any given minute; Corrin asks Felicia/Jakob if they are sure Hoshidans are arriving, to which Felicia/Jakob confirms, they overheard one of the area's guards say so en route back to this area, who also stated that all of the ferries are on hold until the Hoshidans have left. Felicia/Jakob notes the severity of the situation and asks Corrin what to do, to which Corrin states that fighting is their only option—they'll have to beat the Hoshidans and get aboard the ferry, it's the only way they'll be able to carry out Garon's mission; as Corrin begins to start thinking again, Felicia/Jakob asks them what he's thinking about, to which Corrin states that the Hoshidans they fought at Fort Dragonfall were merely strangers—he hasn't had to face Ryoma or any of his other Hoshidan siblings since having to make that fateful choice, and as such is feeling conflicted at the prospect of having to face his blood siblings. Felicia/Jakob tells Corrin that they doesn't know what to say, noting Corrin is in a difficult position and that they understand completely if he decided he didn't want to fight his Hoshidan siblings, then states that if it's causing Corrin so much pain that they can just turn around and go home; Corrin thanks Felicia/Jakob and states that things aren't that simple, as they would have to face the consequences of his choice sooner or later, knowing this would happen when he followed their heart and sided with their Nohrian family—then states that they'll stand by that decision no matter what and will not run. Felicia/Jakob states that they'll tell Elise and the others to prepare for battle. As Felicia/Jakob leaves, Corrin notes that the battlefield is a poor place for making up for lost time with lost siblings, and that things could have turned out differently in another life; Corrin then asks Ryoma and Takumi to forgive them.

(Cutscene: "Vs. Takumi") A large group of samurai appear on the scene, after which Takumi slowly steps forward and draws his Fujin Yumi, which begins to glow; Takumi speaks scornfully to Corrin and states that they abandoned their family and country, and must now pay for their betrayal.

Corrin notes Takumi's presence and notes that he's not merely fighting, but leading the whole army into this area, then states that they meant what they said, even if Takumi is involved, they must defend this port, as this is Nohrian territory and they won't allow the Hoshidans to take their homeland from them; Hinata proceeds to tell Takumi that the Nohrians aren't going to back down, to which Takumi deduces that the Nohrians plan to fight them and states he shouldn't be surprised, as he then states that Nohrians aren't like normal, decent people, they live for the thrill of battle, all the better for him to put the "cowards" in their place. Oboro notes that there's only a handful of Nohrians in the area and denotes that this should be an easy win for the Hoshidans, to which Takumi agrees; Takumi then states that it's never a good idea to underestimate one's enemy, stating that he refuses to lose to the Nohrians especially if Corrin is among their ranks—the Hoshidans must prevail for the sake of their country and all that's good in the world. Preparations take place at this point; the battle starts once preparations are complete.

At the start of turn three player phase, a mercenary and a wyvern rider arrive; the mercenary, Selena, asks Corrin if the Hoshidans are giving them hard time and that she and her companion are in the area to bail them out; Corrin asks Selena and her companion who they are, that they're unfamiliar but don't seem like enemies, to which Selena to wonder why Corrin has forgotten about her and then asks the wyvern rider, Beruka, to say something, only to be met with silence. Corrin deduces that Beruka is shy and introduces themselves to her, only for Beruka to call them a heartless monster in response; Corrin questions why Selena and Beruka would say such things to them and again asks who they are; Camilla arrives onto the scene and notes that she's found her retainers and states that, even though they were in a rush, there was no excuse to leave her behind. Camilla then tells Corrin if she and her retainers made it in time and if the Hoshidans made them cry, to which Corrin confirms; Selena apologizes to Camilla for getting ahead of her, but then tells her that she should have heard the bad things Corrin said about them, Selena states that even though they used to watch over Corrin, they don't even remember her and Beruka, even though they stuck to the shadows and never introduced themselves, after which Beruka deduces that Corrin is heartless. Camilla tells Selena and Beruka that Corrin didn't intend to hurt their feelings and probably would remember them given more time and that they should forgive them, then introduces Corrin to her retainers; after Corrin reintroduces themselves to Selena and Beruka, apologizing for upsetting them, then asks Camilla if she's finished with her mission, to which Camilla reveals that Xander and Leo are taking care of it for her, they liked the idea of her joining Corrin, and now she can destroy anyone who would try to harm them, after which Corrin notes that concept as a little scary then thanking Camilla, Selena and Beruka. Selena states that she'll do her best to protect Corrin even though she's still angry; Beruka states that she's willing to kill all of the Hoshidans for Camilla.

Once the battle ends, Takumi notes that the ongoing situation is unacceptable, that the Hoshidans can't push forward with so many of their troops injured, and notes that the ongoing situation can't be happening; Corrin asks Takumi to listen to reason and states that he's lost this battle, then asks Takumi to do his soldiers a favor and order them to retreat from the port immediately, and that they can all survive with dignity intact if they comply. Takumi notes Corrin's offer as generous but states he knows better, calling the Nohrian army savages and states that they know nothing of mercy; Corrin tells Takumi to take their offer as a lesson to not judge all Nohrians on face value, stating that they spoke the truth in that their soldiers do not harm those who do not seek harm to them. Takumi asks Corrin to tell him how lies come so easily to them, stating that theor words mean nothing in the light of the numerous Hoshidan lives lost, including that of their mother, before asking Corrin if he/she has forgotten their part in her murder; Takumi then calls Corrin pathetic given they have the gall to state that they are no savage, to which Camilla notes Takumi's rudeness and that she should beat some manners into him, and she'll do exactly that unless he takes back the hurtful things he said about Corrin. Corrin steps in and states that Takumi is entitled to his anger and admits that they are indeed partly to blame for what happened in the Hoshido capital plaza that day; Takumi agress to that and states that, if Corrin hadn't returned, Hoshido would still be at peace and Mikoto and the other victims would still be alive. Takumi prepares to chew out Corrin some more when he starts to suffer from a headache, but refuses Corrin's help when offered; after Takumi's headache subsides, he tells Corrin not to think that they have won, that this is only the beginning, Ryoma has already found the Rainbow Sage and received his power, and thus Corrin is no match for Ryoma now even with the entire Nohrian army behind them. Takumi states that he's getting stronger as well, and soon he'll be unstoppable—one day Corrin will beg him for death, which Takumi would be all too happy to grant, and thus will leave Corrin with their guilt until then; as Takumi leaves while Corrin calls out to him, Camilla asks Corrin to let him go as he's clearly got issues—then reveals that Xander received the Rainbow Sage's power ages ago, and if they stick together, there's no way they'll lose to the Hoshidans, to which Corrin tells Camilla they hope she's right. Elise appears on the scene and apologizes for interrupting, then reveals that the ferries are up and running again, then asks that they get the army out of this area and head to Notre Sagesse, and she'll even tell them a fun story she made up about two caterpillars on a little leaf boat; Corrin tells Elise that she has a deal, and in any case needs to put this ordeal behind them and focus on the task at hand—if what Garon said is true, they'll be facing Hoshidan forces in Notre Sagesse as well, and there's no time to overthink things, no time for guilt or regret, then calls for the army to get going.

Summary

The group passes through Fort Dragonfall, liberating Azura, who had been taken prisoner there. Meanwhile, the Hoshidan army remains hot on their trail.

Strategy

This article or section does not meet Fire Emblem Wiki's quality standards. Please improve it as you see fit. Editing help is available.

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Before you begin this chapter, make sure you've recruited Haitaka. It takes three persuasions to get him to join your team, so you may have to wait several hours in real time to recruit him. You are rewarded with a powerful Spear Fighter with high HP, Strength, Skill, Speed, and Defense for his level, as well as good skills and an instant C-rank in lances. You should also reclass Jakob to a mounted unit. You can use the Heart Seal from Chapter 9 to make him a Paladin, which is a safer option for fighting Takumi should you so desire, or you can use a Partner Seal to move him to Wyvern Lord if you have done everything perfectly and married him, which gives him flight utility and starts him on the path to Swordbreaker. You also want Corrin to be capable of one-shotting the enemy Spear Fighters to the southwest with Jakob's support and some Tonics.

You must hold the line for 11 turns without dying or letting the green area get seized. In addition, Takumi will trigger the Dragon Vein at the end of turn 6 if you haven't defeated him by that point. Silas should head northwest to visit the house and cover that chokepoint from the Oni Savages. Niles should visit the northeastern house and man the ballista to deal with the Sky Knights. Nyx/Odin should man the Fire Orb and start dropping death upon the Oni Savages, while Haitaka should rally Corrin and Jakob's defense. Finally, Corrin should visit the southwestern house and take on the Spear Fighters and Ninjas. On turn 2, Jakob should try to pull Hinata and severely wound him. Haitaka, Azura, and Elise can't take on the Oni Savages to the southeast, so they're going to have to break rank for the time being.

On turn 3, angels sing out in immaculate chorus, and down from the heavens descends Camilla The Almighty One. She is a level 1 Malig Knight with enough Strength and Speed to tear apart anything on the map except maybe Takumi. Joining her are Beruka, a tanky Wyvern Rider, and Selena, a solid Mercenary. Selena is notable for making a very good wife for Silas if you wish to recruit Sophie down the line, and she can pass the Hero class to Corrin with an A support. Hero is a good endgame class for Corrin since it lets her use the Yato, keep her weapon levels in axes, gain Axebreaker to deal with the second-to-last boss, and double the final boss with its speed cap. Anyways, have Camilla and her retainers reinforce the beleaguered southeastern chokepoint. Jakob and Corrin should begin making their way towards Takumi, possibly killing Hinata along the way. Make sure not to leave anyone wounded but alive and capable of reaching Takumi, as they will take Takumi's Elixir and heal themselves, robbing you of a nice prize. Corrin and Jakob's goal is to start a turn with a Dual Guard fully charged. They can then move in front of Takumi, who will always attack first on the enemy phase. The Dual Guard will protect your units, who will hopefully two-shot Takumi and prevent him from tripping the Dragon Vein. Meanwhile, Camilla should restore order to the central portion of the map. You can then pair Selena up with her and have her visit the southeastern home, netting a Dracoshield and allowing her to double and one-round Oboro. If everything goes absolutely perfectly, you can then bunker down and survive the final few turns to achieve victory.

Trivia

  • Even though Takumi is accompanied by an army of Samurai in this chapter's cutscene, no generic enemy Samurai appear on this chapter's map.
  • This chapter's map is reused in Revelation Chapter 14.
