Analysis

Regarding his combat, Ronan is arguably one of the worst characters in Thracia 776 and even further one of the worst characters in all of Fire Emblem. This is because his growth rates seem to be more those of a mage than an archer, with a 55% growth in magic but only a 15% growth in strength. These poor growths outright cripple any potential Ronan has of doing any meaningful damage with scaling; however, his high magic will defend him from magic attacks, although he cannot use this to any advantage due to his poor strength. Additionally, Ronan has a low PCC of 1 which drastically decreases his crit rate and will also never be able to capture enemy units due to his restriction to bows.

Still, Ronan does have some redeemable qualities in combat such as the Adept skill, which will allow him to attack consecutively, as well as a relatively high number of movement stars at 3. Ronan will also have higher base stats than Tanya when you recruit him meaning that, at least for the time being, he will be more useful that her.

But when it comes to being a battler, overall Ronan's weaknesses heavily outweigh his strengths. Raising him for that purpose is highly discouraged. However, Ronan does have at least another trick up his sleeve. His high movement base and 3 Action Stars, giving him a 15% chance to take a second turn is more helpful than most of his combat abilities, and makes him good for serving as a "rescue bot", an unofficial term for units whose dedicated roles are to rescue and carry around units, which can come in handy during Chapter 3, when transporting the children back to their homes. Due to his pathetic fighting ability, he can also serve as an extra 7 inventory slots for your thieves and primary capturing units, as well as generally reducing the clutter in others' inventories or the convoy.

If the player is willing to use Ronan and/or make him a good unit, he/she may give him scrolls that improve his strength, like the Baldr scroll. Unfortunately, the Noba scroll, which would benefit him the most, comes far too late to be of any use.

Personality and character

Ronan has very little lines of dialogue, but he is frustrated with the raids of Lifis and his pirates enough to join the Fiana Freeblades. Judging from his death and escape quotes, he also seems to care about his fellow soldiers and his mother.
