||I knew you wouldn't listen to reason. That's why I brought a friend of yours.
Arete Undone (Japanese: 眷属シェンメイ Servant Shenmei) is the twenty-third chapter of the Revelation campaign of Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin confronts Arete one last time before entering Castle Gyges.
- The below plot corresponds to the use of a male Corrin. If you refresh this page, it is possible to get an alternate reading using a female variation instead.
Corrin notices that Ryoma appears distraught, and asks him what he's thinking of. Ryoma responds that he was thinking of Scarlet, and how they still do not yet know who killed her. He believes that her killer must be a spy within their ranks, given that their group were the only people to jump down the canyon. Gunter also reiterates that Corrin stated they were attacked as they fell. Ryoma remarks that he hadn't spoken out about it since Corrin wanted everyone to build a sense of trust with each other. Corrin thanks Ryoma for warning him of this. As they move forward, Arete appears in front of them, threatening to kill them. When Azura refuses to back down, Arete hints at having "a friend of [theirs]". Corrin and the army then battle Arete once more.
As Arete lays dying, she begins to remember Azura as her daughter, to the surprise of Azura herself. Corrin urges her to reconcile with her mother. Arete apologizes to Azura for leaving her alone, though Azura responds that, with the other royals around, she never felt alone. As Arete dissipates into water, she tells Azura how proud she is of her. Corrin declares that Anankos will pay for this tragedy.
When Corrin's army nears the Vallite castle, they encounter Azura's mother, Arete. She is defeated and withdraws, but her presence shocks Azura.
| Victory: Seize Arete's fort.
| Defeat: Corrin dies* or the player's army is routed*.
