Osian (Japanese: オーシン Othin) is a warrior from Fiana Village in Thracia, and a member of Eyvel's Fiana Freeblades.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
Osian was with the Freeblades on a job outside Fiana when it fell under attack by the forces of Munster under the command of Weissmann, during which Nanna and Mareeta were kidnapped by Raydrik. With the Freeblades, Osian drove the Munster army out of Fiana before leaving with Leif and Eyvel to rescue them. Although he was separated from Leif after their assault on the Kelbeth fortress, Osian and the rest of the Freeblades regrouped with him following Leif's escape from Munster, and he continued to serve as the Fiana Freeblades evolved into Leif's liberation army.

As with most of the rest of Leif's party, Osian is forced to temporarily leave after Chapter 3, if he is still alive and has not been captured at that point. He automatically rejoins the party at the end of Chapter 7.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Osian joins in Chapter 1 as a level 1 Axe Fighter. Much like most other early-game units, he becomes unavailable starting from Chapter 4, and rejoins in Chapter 7.
Osian is best known for his personal weapon, Vouge, which he can obtain by visiting the southern village in Chapter 1. The Vouge is among the best weapons in the game. It has 1-2 range, 10 Might, 80 Hit, 30 Crit and 9 Weight. It also has a massive 60 Uses. Even at base level, Osian does not get weighed down by it, reliably hits enemies with it, and one-rounds them with ease.
Osian's base stats are quite good. His 9 Speed lets him double most enemies consistently, and his 27 HP is enough to tank a few hits. He has an FCM of 3, high enough to almost always crit on the second attack while using the Vouge. Most importantly, Osian has the Wrath skill, one of the best skills in Thracia. Wrath makes a unit automatically crit when counterattacking. Since Osian gets a 1-2 range personal weapon in Chapter 1, he can abuse it on enemy phase to one-shot scores of enemies thanks to Wrath.
Osian's promotion to Hero is not very significant, but it does increase his overall stats a bit and lets him gain more levels if he has reached 20 as an Axe Fighter. It is worth doing later in the game just for that, if the player still deploys him. Promoting Osian does give him the ability to use swords, starting at D rank, but this is hardly ever useful - axes will still be Osian's best weapons, and the Weapon Triangle bonuses/penalties aren't particularly significant in Thracia compared to other games in the series; Osian will still maintain solid hit rates even when wielding an axe against sword-wielding opponents.
Osian's major weakness is his abysmal Magic of 0 with a measly 5% growth. Osian will sit at single-digit Magic for the entire game, making him take a lot of damage from enemy magic users. While his HP is bound to be high, with a good base of 27 and a high growth of 85%, this is still going to be a concern.
Even more importantly, Osian's low Magic means he is easy prey for enemy status staff users. Berserk users will be especially dangerous, since Osian is an excellent combat unit - if he gets berserked, he will massacre the player's army. While the player can mitigate the issue by remembering to keep Restore staff users near Osian, or by using Magic Up staves on him, they must still exercise great caution in these situations.
Osian also has a low weapon rank in axes, with a mere E rank at base. While he has 40 base weapon experience in axes, letting him reach D rank quickly, he is still quite far from using effective axes like the Hammer or the Poleaxe. However, Osian's Vouge usually does the job in the early-game, and Osian is likely to receive some training, since he is one of the player's best options for early-game combat. With that training, he should be able to at least reach C rank just in time for chapters where effective weaponry is useful, such as Chapter 14.
One of Osian's major combat weaknesses is his lack of a decent magic option as well as reliance on enemy phase for a large portion of his damage output, as the Vouge is not amazingly high in might and Osian's strength stat is unimpressive. While this may not be that significant for early game and for a lot of generic enemies, this significantly limits Osian's ability to defeat throne enemies, as it is impossible for him to kill most later game bosses with a single Vouge crit. Overall this makes him great at dealing with generic enemies, but there are usually much better choices than him in terms of safety and boss-killing potential.
Finally, Osian has a relatively high Constitution growth at 25%, with a base Constitution of 11. While this may not seem like a bad thing, in practice, it may make Osian impossible to rescue at some point, and also means he will always be rescued with movement penalty by anyone who can rescue him. This means that strategies involving moving Osian quickly across outdoor maps via rescue are not viable, he will usually be fastest just walking, and since he does not even gain move on promotion, he will be less mobile than almost every other promoted character in the game. He can still be warped around with Warp staves, but this can be an issue in large late-game maps if the player wants Osian to reach a certain location on the map quickly without spending a Warp use.
As for investment, the best investment Osian can get is the Od Scroll, one of the Crusader Scrolls. Osian's Skill growth increases by 30% with the scroll in his inventory, improving his accuracy and reliability in the long-term. Besides, as with all Crusader Scrolls, having it in his inventory makes Osian immune to critical hits. This removes a threat that could kill him when he is enemy-phasing a large number of enemies.

Personality and character
Osian is blunt, hot-blooded, reckless and has quite the temper. Eyvel hints that he tends to get caught up in the fervor of battle and overdo it.

Japanese |
オーシン |
Officially romanized as Othin. Othin is occasionally used as a translation of Óðinn (usually Odin), although the resemblance between the two names is likely not intended; the Fire Emblem Osian's Japanese name does not resemble the Japanese name of Óðinn at all, and much more likely derives from Oisín, given the pronunciation and the character being in the Fiana Freeblades, a group named after the Fianna. |
