“ | I don't care. I don't trust either of you. I just wanted to tell you that to your face. | ” | — Takumi, to Corrin and Azura |
---|
Takumi (Japanese: タクミ Takumi) is a character in Fire Emblem Fates. He is the second prince of Hoshido, and the younger step-brother of Corrin. Like all other Hoshidan and Nohrian royalty, he possesses the power of Dragon Vein, being able to alter the terrain around oneself.
Biography
Takumi is Corrin's younger brother. When Rinkah and Kaze return Corrin to Hoshido, Takumi makes it very clear that he does not trust them, and believes them to be spying on them for Nohr. After Mikoto's assassination, Takumi blames Corrin for bringing the blade that killed her to Hoshido.
Birthright
If Corrin sides with Hoshido, Takumi and Ryoma go missing shortly after they repel Xander's troops. Corrin begins searching for him. Eventually, Corrin discovers Takumi, brainwashed by something, during the battle with the traitorous Mokushu ninja clan. Azura returns him to his senses, and Takumi explains that the last thing he remembers is falling into the Bottomless Canyon. He then joins Corrin's group.
When Takumi, with Corrin, meets the Rainbow Sage, his Fujin Yumi lends its power to Corrin's Yato and turns it into the Noble Yato.
Later, repeated incidents of Nohrian forces having knowledge they should not possess lead Takumi to suspect there is a traitor in their group. At the capital of Nohr, the king's adviser Iago appears and forces Takumi, whose brainwashing relapses, to take Azura hostage, revealing that Takumi was unknowingly the traitor and knowing their location each time. However, Takumi is able to overcome Iago and aid Corrin in killing him and Garon. After Garon's defeat, Ryoma is crowned as the king of Hoshido in a ceremony as Takumi and his siblings proudly watch on.
Conquest
If Corrin sides with Nohr, Takumi takes Corrin's choice the hardest, immediately denouncing them as a traitor. He and his siblings are driven back by Nohrian forces.
He is next encountered along with his retainers Hinata and Oboro during the journey to Notre Sagesse, and Corrin is forced to defend the port of Dia from his onslaught of troops.
After his defeat at Dia, Takumi heads alone to Cheve to support their rebellion against Nohr. When Corrin arrives to deal with the rebellion, he ominously proclaims that he believes killing them will cause "the pain in [his] head" to go away. Takumi vanishes after the battle.
Later, Takumi and his siblings attend the the party in Izumo, arranged by Izana. Corrin and the Nohr siblings are also present, much to Takumi's distaste. Eventually it is discovered that the Nohrian illusionist Zola is impersonating Izana to lure the Hoshidan royal family to their deaths. Corrin, refusing to violate Izumo's neutrality pact, kills Zola and his forces, freeing the Hoshidans, including Takumi. Takumi refuses to show any gratitude for this.
Takumi and his retainers guard the Great Wall of Suzanoh, a massive wall protecting Hoshido, Takumi and his forces are defeated regardless. After the battle Takumi, in a fit of rage and emanating a strange darkness, leaps from the wall. Corrin is unable to find Takumi's corpse after this and presumes he is still alive.
After the defeat of Garon in Mikoto's throne room, Takumi, now completely unhinged, suddenly appears and attacks Corrin and shatters the Yato.
Now on the brink of death, Corrin finds themselves in the afterlife, where they meet the spirits of Ryoma, Mikoto and the real Takumi, who explains that his soul is truly dead; the creature battling Corrin's companions is a puppet using his corpse, feeding off of Takumi's resentment. Takumi reconciles with Corrin and gives them the power of the Fujin Yumi, asking them to destroy his body and allow him true peace.
After Corrin defeats Takumi's reanimated corpse, they and Xander speculate as to what possessed him and Garon, but are unable to come to any conclusions.
Revelation
If Corrin sides with neither nation, Takumi and the other Hoshidan siblings are, like the Nohrian royals, quick to denounce Corrin and Azura as traitors and are forced to attack them. Prior to Chapter 10, Takumi travels to Izumo to consult with Archduke Izana about Corrin and Azura's supposed treachery, only for him and his retainers, Oboro and Hinata, to be kidnapped by Nohrian troops that have overrun Izumo. Confined alongside Izana by Zola, Takumi and his retainers are rescued by Corrin's army, along with Izana, following Zola's defeat. After Izana's death, Takumi decides to honor the archduke's dying wish by joining Corrin and Azura in their quest, bringing along his retainers. Takumi continues to fight alongside Corrin throughout their campaign in Valla, and eventually lends them the power of the Fujin Yumi to transform the Alpha Yato into the Omega Yato. In the aftermath, he resolves to maintain the newfound peace with Nohr.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Takumi is an Archer that joins in chapter 10 of both Birthright and Revelation. As a royal unit, he is capable of activating Dragon Veins. He has solid strength that is further complemented by his personal weapon and his skillset, allowing him to hit an impressive 35 attack at base, if initiating combat while supported with a proper unit. His high skill combined with his personal skill will also provide him with a respectable crit rate. His speed is also decent, though he has very low resistance, making him very weak to magic. Takumi additionally is held back by his lack of 1-range, making his enemy phase nearly non-existent, as with most archers. In general, Takumi is very good at eliminating key targets, like bosses, but is largely restricted to player phase action. If you have completed the DLC chapter End: Lost in the Waves, Takumi makes a beautiful recipient of the Point Blank skill, which grants him 1-2 range with bows and removes this weakness.
His personal weapon, the Fujin Yumi is unique in that it allows him to cross terrain without any movement penalties. While he is still unable to cross terrain infantry normally can't cross, such as peaks, this still gives him very good mobility relative to other units, particularly in Birthright. Even if the player does not intend to train Takumi for combat, this mobility can allow him to ferry other units to key locations more quickly. Starting with a C rank in bows, he is immediately capable of using the Killer Bow and Dual Yumi, granting him great burst damage and solid coverage of the weapon triangle respectively. Additionally, as he starts at level 11, he can be promoted immediately.
His strengths are further amplified upon promotion, with both Sniper and Kinshi Knight offering him a good boost to his speed. Sniper in particular doubles down on his offenses, sacrificing the mobility of a mount in favor of maximizing his damage, doubling ability, and crit rates. Kinshi Knight is also a solid option, as its flight combined with bow access give Takumi a great effective attack range which goes well with his raw power. Access to naginata also provides him reliable 1-range options without the avoid penalty of the Mini Bow. Though naginata also provide weapon triangle advantage against red weapons, this may be less meaningful given he can already attain this through the Dual Yumi. Be wary, however, that the promotion to Kinshi Knight will actually reduce both his strength base and strength growth somewhat.
In Birthright, Takumi is in an unfortunate position. As an archer, his niche is his high strength and ability to take down singular, powerful enemies. Early on, Takumi can contribute fairly well, as he is capable of OHKOing enemy Ninjas in his join chapter, and can decimate the fliers in chapter 11. However, as the path progresses, it primarily increases its difficulty through enemy quantity over enemy quality, favoring 1-2 range units with strong defensive capabilities, of which Takumi is lacking in both categories. As a result, Takumi will likely see less and less use as the path goes along, especially considering there are not very many enemies with stats high enough to justify his niche.
As Revelation has far fewer, but noticeably bulkier enemies, Takumi's high single-target damage niche has much more use. Like in Birthright, he is capable of OHKOing Ninjas at base, and in general will likely have the strongest raw damage output the player has access to for quite some time. He also benefits from the path's greater objective variety as well, featuring fewer rout maps and more defeat the boss or seize chapters. The second half of the path in particular has several maps that can be completed swiftly by flying over much of the terrain, giving his access to Kinshi Knight more utility. In addition, his status as a royal has a greater impact, as the path features many Dragon Vein-based objectives, incentivising using as many such units as possible.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
There are four different variations of Takumi available to Heroes. The normal variation of Takumi is one of the characters available to be summoned by players from the game's initial launch. A New Year variation of Takumi was made available between the period of December 31, 2017 through January 15, 2018 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Happy New Year! update. A possessed variation of Takumi, based on his role as the boss of the final chapter of the Conquest campaign, was added to the game in the Blood and Snow update and made available to players in the seventeenth Grand Hero Battle, which initially ran from February 24, 2018 through March 8, 2018; this variation is the first special character variation to be made available via a Grand Hero Battle. A summer variation of Takumi was made available between the period of July 10, 2018 through August 10, 2018 as part of the summoning event surrounding the A Sketchy Summer update; this variation is based on Takumi's appearance in a picture that Hinata and Oboro look at after Takumi wins Beach Brawl. A Valentines-themed variation of Takumi was added in the A Special Gift update, and was first available to summon starting February 6, 2023.
From version 2.5 onward, Takumi: Wild Card is one of the player's initial units in Fire Emblem Heroes, joining at the beginning of the game's second preface map. When Anna and Kiran are attacked by Emblian soldiers, Kiran takes the Breidablik in hand and summons Takumi, who fights alongside Anna to ward off the Emblians. Once the Preface ends, this four-star Takumi can be used like any other non-unique Hero; the player may choose to raise him, merge him with another version of Takumi, send him home to earn Hero Feathers, or pass on his skills to another unit. Players who started playing the game prior to version 2.5 were given a four-star Takumi as a reward upon upgrading their game to version 2.5 as part of a package that allows those players to equalize their initial free units to four-star rarity similar to newer players. The four-star Takumi obtained via these methods are the only means of obtaining the base variation of Takumi at any rarity other than five-star.

Personality and character
Takumi is wary of others, and quick to be suspicious. Although he is slow to open up, he is extremely loyal to his close friends. Takumi handles betrayal very poorly, and constantly calls Nohr-aligned Corrin a traitor to their face. Takumi also has severe self-esteem issues; he compulsively compares himself to his siblings and son, and has expressed the belief that his siblings do not care about his well-being on at least two separate occasions.
Throughout Conquest, his sanity continuously degrades as a result of his possession, and by the end of the game he has been reduced to a husk of his former self, completely obsessed with murdering Corrin and all Nohrians to exact revenge for their betrayal. Heroes expands upon his personality in this state; he typically cycles through episodes of confusion and bloodlust, but consistently displays his hatred towards Nohr. When Corrin, on the brink of death, encounters Takumi's sane spirit, however, Takumi is willing to reconcile with them and trust them to save him and restore peace to the world.

Takumi: I have no time for your empty words. Ryoma and the Hinoka were fools. I knew trusting a Nohrian would lead to death and heartbreak. But I am not Ryoma, nor my siblings. How can you stand to live after the horrors you caused in Hoshido? My suspicions must be accurate. Nohrians don't have souls. Corrin: Words could never express my sorrow for what took place... Takumi: Oh? Are you still human enough to feel remorse? Fascinating. It's a fitting last emotion. I hope you feel its sting as I strike you down! |
” | — Takumi, fighting Corrin in Conquest Chapter 10. |

“ | Takumi: Azura?! Last I heard, you were taken by Hoshidan soldiers. Ryoma worried himself sick planning your rescue. I told him it was pointless. And you proved me right, you Nohrian traitor. You should be ashamed. Azura: I could not return to Hoshido, Takumi. Not with things as they are. It saddened me deeply to leave behind those who treated me so kindly. Takumi: You sound just like the royal traitor. I always knew this would happen. That's why I never trusted you. Didn't you always wonder? Had I known your betrayal would come so swiftly, I'd have killed you myself. Still, I should have pressed Ryoma harder to banish you years ago. Azura: Your grudge is clearly beyond words. Let us do what we came here to do. |

“ | Takumi: I have waited far too long for this moment, Brother/Sister. I have dreamt of nothing but ending you, and now the time has come! I shall cherish the sound of life leaving your body for all eternity. Do you remember what I told you in Cheve? Do you?! Corrin: You said you would not rest until you killed me—made me pay for my sins. Takumi: That's right. There's no turning back now... Not for me. This is all I have left. For better or worse, this will be our last meeting. It ends here. I made up my mind to kill you a long time ago, my forgotten brother/sister. I WILL have revenge for Mother and all the Hoshidan lives you've ruined!! Corrin: Takumi... Brother... |

Trusting someone connected to Nohr is only going to lead to heartbreak. I'm different from them, though. They still think you can turn back. I have no problem taking you out—right here, right now. |

Trivia
- Takumi is one of only three final bosses in the Fire Emblem series who does not have a unique class, the others being Medeus of Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Veld of Thracia 776.
- Takumi is the most recurrent enemy in the series, fought in a total of 19 chapters: as a recruitable enemy in Birthright Chapter 10, a named enemy in Conquest Chapter 6, Revelation Chapter 6, Heirs of Fate 6, Beach Brawl, Royal Royale, Heroes Map 6-1, Heroes Map P17-1, Heroes Map P17-3, Heroes Map P22-2, and Heroes Map P22-3, a midboss in Conquest Chapter 13, Warriors History Mode: The Path Is Yours, and Warriors History Mode: Hero Challenge, and a boss in Conquest Chapter 10, Conquest Chapter 23, Conquest Endgame, Heroes Map 6-2, and Warriors Chapter 7.
- As the final boss of Fates: Conquest, Takumi's HP breaks the ordinary Sniper cap for HP of 55; he has 60 on Normal, 65 on Hard, and 75 on Lunatic. He is the only enemy in Fates to bear this distinction.
- Takumi has lower base Luck in his appearance in the Conquest Endgame as compared to his appearance in Chapter 23. On Hard and Lunatic difficulties, he also has lower Strength, Skill, and Speed.
- Including his Vallite portrait from the Heirs of Fate DLC, Takumi has the most portraits used in Fates, having up to 10 different portraits.
- If discounted, he shares the maximum amount of portraits with Elise, both having nine.
- If Takumi is reclassed to a Swordmaster via a support, he has a unique outfit: he wears the armor of his father, Sumeragi.
- In the French translation of Fire Emblem Fates, Takumi mistakenly refers to male Corrin as his sister in their C support.[2]
