Mother (Japanese: 母と子 Mother and Child) is the fifth chapter of Fire Emblem Fates, and the last full chapter before the game splits into its multiple campaigns. In this chapter, a celebration of Corrin's return to Hoshido is attacked by a mysterious invader who steals Corrin's sword and uses its power to kill Mikoto, causing Corrin to lose control of himself/herself in grief and transforming into a feral dragon. Once Corrin gets restored to his/her normal self, a legendary katana gets discovered in the rubble and chooses Corrin as its wielder.

Mother/Script
Mikoto, the Queen of Hoshido, shows Corrin the Shirasagi Castle throne, which can restore Corrin's memories of Hoshidan siblings by purifying the body and mind. Corrin then meets Yukimura and spends some time with their Hoshidan family, while Mikoto prepares a ceremony of announcing Corrin's presence in Hoshido.
Corrin and their siblings enter the city plaza after the ceremony begins, only for a mysterious figure to seize Ganglari and send its shards at Corrin. Mikoto blocks the shards with her body and dies, prompting Corrin to transform into a dragon in a fit of rage. A battle with mysterious figures begins, and once it ends, Azura calms Corrin down with her song, making them untransform. Azura offers Corrin a Dragonstone to control their dragon form more easily, then Ryoma notes the town has been destroyed by Nohrians and Mikoto's death had been planned by Garon.
Kaze informs Ryoma of new Nohrian troop movements and Ryoma decides to meet them on the battlefield. Azura then pledges that she will join Corrin and their siblings in the fight.
