Journey Begins

This is Ganglari, a sword infused with magic from another world. With this sword at your side, you will crush the Hoshidan army with ease.
— Garon

Gift of Ganglari (Japanese: 魔剣ガングレリ Demon Sword Gangleri) is the second chapter of Fire Emblem Fates. This chapter introduces the player to the Pair Up and Tag Team gameplay mechanics, and effective usage of them is needed to win the battle most efficiently.

Main article: Gift of Ganglari/Script

Having finally been allowed to leave the Northern Fortress by his/her father, Corrin travels with his/her siblings to the Nohrian royal palace of Castle Krakenburg, an imposing structure set deep in the earth. His/her father, King Garon, congratulates Corrin on earning the right to leave the Northern Fortress. He informs Corrin that Nohr is at war with the neighbouring kingdom of Hoshido, and tells him/her to harness the power of his/her dragon bloodline, in order to defeat his/her enemies. Garon determines that Corrin will need a "suitable weapon" in order to serve the Nohrian army, and produces an ominous-looking magical sword, the Ganglari, for Corrin to wield.

Having gifted Corrin his/her new weapon, Garon offers him/her a chance to put it to use immediately, and orders that a group of Hoshidan prisoners are brought out for Corrin to fight. Corrin is joined in the fight by Gunter, the veteran Great Knight, and his/her loyal attendant Jakob*/Felicia*. Among the prisoners are Rinkah, daughter of the chieftain of the Flame Tribe, and Kaze, a Hoshidan ninja who appears to be familiar with Corrin.

As the battle begins, Corrin notices a Dragon Vein nearby, and uses it to clear the debris at the center of the hall to reveal a healing area. Making use of the shelter provided, Corrin and his/her attendants defeat the Hoshidan prisoners. With the battle over, Garon orders Corrin to execute the prisoners, but he/she refuses. Garon angrily moves to kill them himself, but Corrin stops him. Further irritated, Garon orders Xander to kill the prisoners. Xander attacks Corrin, to force him/her to relent, but Corrin tries to convince him to show mercy. To prevent the situation from growing out of hand, Leo steps in, and "kills" the prisoners with his magic. Garon, still dissatisfied with his son/daughter's disobedience, leaves afterwards.

With the king out of earshot, Leo explains that he did not actually kill the prisoners, but merely knocked them unconscious, while Camilla worries that Garon will not easily forgive Corrin for his/her disobedience. Later that night, Xander and Corrin take Kaze and Rinkah outside to set them free. Kaze leaves silently, but Rinkah vows to claim her revenge some day. In response, Corrin expresses his/her desire to see the war end, and for Hoshidans and Nohrians to be able to live together peacefully.

Corrin is finally allowed to leave the Northern Fortress. Together the Nohrian siblings travel to the castle to meet with their father, King Garon.

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

On Normal or Hard difficulty, Corrin should trigger the Dragon Vein straight away, to reveal the shelter area, then move all units inside. Felicia/Jakob, having access to ranged attacks, should move to the center (this will also allow her/him to join the other units in Tag Team), with Gunter and Corrin to the left and right respectively (it may be preferable to place Gunter in the center, so he does not claim too many kills). Wait in the sheltered area for the enemy to approach. Corrin should be able to hold his/her own on the right side, while Gunter will be able to weaken the enemies on the left enough for Felicia/Jakob to finish them off. On turn 3 in Lunatic mode, you may need to move Gunter one space to the left (just outside the healtile area), as Felicia/Jakob will be unable to survive attacks from both Kaze and Rinkah. This should not be an issue on lower difficulties, thanks to the lack of ranged weapons in the enemies' hands. Try to keep your units adjacent to each other as often as is possible without leaving Felicia/Jakob in danger, so as to get the most out of the Tag Team system. Only use Gunter to kill enemies if necessary (on Lunatic, you may need him to defeat the Kodachi-wielding Samurai), as Corrin and Felicia/Jakob will need the experience more (especially if intending to side with Hoshido).

On Lunatic difficulty, fighting both enemy groups at once becomes infeasible, even considering Demoiselle/Gentilhomme and the healing from the Dragon Vein. Instead, you should send all your units to the left side. Use Gunter to tank an attack from Rinkah's group, then move in with Corrin and their servant, taking advantage of Felicia's Demoiselle or Jakob's Gentilhomme to reduce the damage Corrin takes. Be careful if using male Corrin, as Rinkah can kill Felicia in one hit if Fiery Blood is activated. By the time you dispatch Rinkah's group, Kaze's group should have reached your starting position. Use the same baiting technique used against Rinkah's group, and finish them off. Corrin appreciates the experience most, but don't be shy about using your other units to kill things.
