Oh, I've missed you so much! Come here, Corrin, my sweet child!
— Mikoto reuniting with Corrin.

Hoshido (Japanese: 白夜の同胞 White Night Compatriot) is the fourth chapter of Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin, having found themselves captured by Hoshidans after emerging from the Astral Realm, is taken to Hoshido; expecting the worst, Corrin ends up meeting their birth mother and learns a large chunk of theirown backstory. Afterward, Corrin and their Hoshidan older brother travels back to where he/she came to in order to rescue their Hoshidan sisters and eventually meets a girl with a similar albeit reversed background.

A large number of the game's mechanics are introduced in this chapter, including inventory management and visiting villages.

Plot

Main article: Hoshido (chapter)/Script

Corrin comes to inside a cabin in a snowy valley settlement in Hoshido, where Rinkah notices they are awake and apologizes for the bump on their head; Corrin recognizes Rinkah and asks her where they are, to which Rinkah states that they're in a Flame Tribe village in Hoshido, after which Rinkah states she'll be handing Corrin over to the Hoshidan authorities. Corrin deduces that the authorities will want to hear an explanation as to what went down at the Bottomless Canyon before executing them thereafter, to which Rinkah denies; Corrin asks Rinkah if the authorities are in the area already, to which Rinkah confirms and states that it's time for them to leave. The two meet Kaze outside, where Corrin recognizes him and Kaze states he's glad he and Rinkah found Corrin, addressing him/her by royal title and kneeling; Corrin asks Kaze if they are missing something, after which Kaze asks them to follow him and states that all will be explained in due time.

Over at Castle Shirasagi, Kaze, Rinkah, and Corrin arrive into the presence of Ryoma, whom Kaze welcomes back and Kaze promptly thanks back; Corrin asks about the manner in which Kaze addressed Ryoma, to which Rinkah states that Ryoma is the high prince of Hoshido, to which Corrin states they understands then asks Ryoma to make their execution swift. A woman named Mikoto walks onto the scene and recognizes Corrin, to which Corrin asks her if they even know each other; Mikoto then states that she's missed Corrin so much and asks them to come to her, getting Corrin into a hug, all the while while Corrin continues to wonder just what Mikoto is talking about and deducing it's not possible for them to be her child.

A short time later, Mikoto recounts a sad story, revealing that Corrin was abducted from Hoshido by forces from Nohr when they were very young, introduces herself as Corrin's mother, and states that she didn't even know at the time if she's even see them again; Corrin states that Garon is their father and dismisses Mikoto's statements as not making any sense, after which Ryoma states that what Mikoto speaks is the truth even if it comes to great shock before promptly telling Corrin that he is their older brother. Corrin dismisses Ryoma's statements and states that Xander is their older brother, and that Leo, Elise, and Camilla are their other siblings, to which Ryoma recognizes the names as those of the Nohrian royals and tells Corrin that they are not their real family--and states that he still remembers the day Corrin was taken from Hoshido, stating that there was tension between Hoshido and Nohr in those days but no full-blown war until Garon lured their father, the Hoshidan king Sumeragi, to Cheve under false pretenses. Ryoma reveals that the meeting was stated to be a peace conference, but states Garon's real motive was to murder Sumeragi in cold blood, and made matters worse by kidnapping Corrin; as Corrin deduces that situation as not being possible, Ryoma asks Corrin if they don't remember any of it, to which Corrin states that they have only the vaguest memories from their early childhood. Corrin states that there are times when they can see a blurry image below the surface of water, a stone at the bottom of a lake, but nothing of substance; Ryoma states that he couldn't imagine Nohrian royalty sharing more of Corrin's past and states that he knows what's been mentioned is a lot for Corrin to take in. A samurai appears on the scene, telling Ryoma he has an urgent message--they are under attack from the north; Ryoma states that Hinoka and Sakura are in that area as they speak, to which the samurai states that he's been told they're in the area to help evacuate the villagers. Ryoma states that they'll need to provide support and he'll leave immediately; Ryoma asks Corrin to come with him as he wants them to see the truth with their own eyes.

Back at the valley settlement, Sakura apologizes to Hinoka for slowing them down, noting the inopportune moment for her to sprain an ankle; Hinoka tells Sakura not to worry as they'll be OK, the beasts in the area don't stand a chance against her, to which Sakura states she hopes Hinoka's right. As the battle begins, Ryoma asks Corrn to take a look around the area and notes that this is a treacherous region for battle, and it's important to scout ahead and look for troublesome areas. The first time the player selects Rinkah for action, she notices a village that has yet to be evacuated, and that they should warn them to stay out of harm's way. The first time the player selects Kaze for action, he states that he hopes the mission doesn't come down to it, but that he brought a vulnerary for Corrin, and tells them to use it as necessary.

Once the battle ends, Sakura thanks Corrin for coming to her aid, stating that the monsters would have caused more damage had they not come, then asks Corrin to introduce themselves; Corrin attempts to introduce themselves, but Hinoka jumps in and states their name, after which Corrin states it's nice to finally meet them properly. Sakura asks Hinoka if she is OK, to which Hinoka puts her hands on Corrin and states that she's missed them so much after all these years, crying as she speaks; Ryoma states that Hinoka was quite attached to Corrin when they were little, and she cried for months after Corrin was taken, then picked up the naginata when she stopped crying. Ryoma states that anyone on the business end of Hinoka's naginata will soon be filled with major regrets about their life decisions, then states that she vowed to bring Corrin back to Hoshido some day, which has finally happened.

A short time later, Hinoka apologizes for getting emotional, but she was quite happy to have Corrin back, then tells the Nohrians to "take that" as the Hoshidans win and the Nohrians lose; Sakura asks if Corrin really has returned, to which Ryoma confirms, stating it to be big news and that he'll fill them in on the whole story later, but they should focus on returning to the castle before Nohr deploys more monsters. Corrin asks what the monsters are, to which Ryoma states that they're Faceless, creatures with no will of their own created by Nohrian mages; Hinoka states that the Faceless are the only things Nohr can throw at Hoshido at present, as Mikoto put up a magical barrier around Hoshido, which causes regular enemy soldiers to lose all will to fight upon crossing it, and this keeps Nohr from being able to invade Hoshido as long as the barrier remains up. Ryoma states that the barrier is why Nohr sends the Faceless, as they have no souls or wills of their own, allowing them to penetrate the barrier and terrorize their borders; Corrin states that the Nohrians wouldn't use monsters to terrorize innocents, to which Hinoka states that they would--the Faceless are pure evil that sometimes even turn on the mages that create them, but the Nohrians don't care and are willing to sacrifice their own just to hurt others. Hinoka states that she'll never forgive the Nohrians for the Faceless or for stealing Corrin away, vowing that the Nohrians will pay for all the suffering they've caused the Hoshidans, something Corrin states they can't believe.

Back in an old room at Castle Shirasagi, Mikoto and Corrin walk into the room, to which Mikoto welcomes Corrin back and states that this room is their old bedroom; Corrin notices a picture, to which Mikoto states that they drew it when they were younger. Mikoto states that the Hoshidan royalty couldn't bear to touch a thing in the room after Corrin was taken, as putting the things away would have felt like giving up; as Mikoto notices how Corrin has grown, Corrin states that they still don't remember anything of Hoshido or how to respond to Mikoto's stories--they do believe they could be Mikoto's child, yet everyone in Hoshido feels like a stranger to them, to which Mikoto states that she understands and tells Corrin not to worry about it. Corrin apologetically states that they don't feel anything even though their real mother is present, to which Mikoto states makes sense given Corrin spent their whole childhood sheltered in Nohr and that they need time to think things through and search their soul, while stating that she hopes that they can one day be a family again; Mikoto asks Corrin to make themselves comfortable for the moment, asking that they could explore the castle grounds or stroll the grounds outside, as they're in a safe area.

A short time later, at the shore of a lake, Corrin states that they can't stop thinking about their Nohrian siblings when they hear a song; as we hear a voice start to sing Lost in Thoughts All Alone, Corrin notices the song is quite beautiful. (Cutscene: "Lakeside Song") We notice a girl walking along the lakeshore singing the song, after which point she's met up with Corrin, at which point the girl's name is revealed to be Azura; Corrin apologizes to Azura for being a bother, but states that they got lost in her singing, stating that something about the song captivated them. Azura recognizes Corrin including royal title, to which Corrin confirms and asks Azura who she is--to which Azura introduces herself as a former princess of Nohr, something Corrin states they don't understand as they would have certainly heard of her if it were true as they grew up with the Nohrian royal family; Azura states that she's been in Hoshido for a long time, stating that the Hoshidan ninjas desperately tried to get Corrin back after they were taken from Hoshido but failed again and again, thus they changed targets and thus the ninjas easily kidnapped Azura instead, at which point Azura states that they've both been hostages for most of their lives. Corrin attempts to apologize, but Azura states that she's lived a happy life as the people of Hoshido have accepted her as one of their own, and Mikoto herself even treats her as if she were her own daughter; as Corrin explains how he's having trouble connecting with the Hoshidan royal family, Azura states she'd probably feel the same way if she were to reconnect with the Nohr royal family. Corrin asks Azura if she'd be willing to start life anew in Nohr, to which Azura states that she would prefer to remain in Hoshido, stating Mikoto is a peace-loving ruler while Garon is not; Azura then asks Corrin what they plan to do, to which Corrin states that they don't know and that they are going to spend some time thinking.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

The general goal of this chapter is to clear out the enemies. Both Sakura and Hinoka are expendable, and retreat rather than being killed if they are defeated. However, if Hinoka survives, she gives a Concoction to Corrin upon being spoken to.

A few things are in your favor for this chapter. First off, Dragon Veins are scattered throughout the map that when used, effectively remove mountainous areas that severely hinder movement range. Secondly, you have 2 other units under your direct command, Kaze and Rinkah. Kaze can attack from range and his weapons lower enemy stats on hit (-2 Magic, -3 Defense and -3 Resistance) which recover 1 point per turn. Thirdly, Ryoma is an ally on this map and can easily dispatch the enemies with little effort. However, he is uncontrollable and does not gain any EXP from his fights, meaning that you will lose out on some valuable EXP. Finally, both Hinoka and Sakura are behind a small hill that drastically reduces movement range to 1 and effectively ensures only 1 enemy may attack at any one time. Before moving towards your Hoshidan allies under threat, be sure to Visit the nearby building to obtain the single Goddess Icon before continuing on. The Faceless on this map, apart from the 4 in the center which includes the boss for this map, will all move to attack Hinoka and Sakura.

Gradually make your way with your units over to Hinoka and Sakura, being careful to avoid the boss Faceless unit that stands on the small hill in the center of the map with 3 other Faceless in adjacent tiles. You can begin a short conversation with both Sakura and Hinoka if you wish (Hinoka can give you a set of Concoctions if you speak with her), but the main goal is to clear the map of Faceless.

When approaching the 4 Faceless in the center of the map, take care to only enter the attack range of one at a time to lure them towards your trio of units. Have Kaze hit each one once to weaken their stats before finishing them off with your other two units, giving preference to your Avatar for experience gain. When the boss Faceless is dead, the chapter will be completed.
