Ahoy, Prince Marth, I be Darros, a simple man o' the sea. I've had me fill o' the piratin' life, and now I be lookin' t'start anew. What say ye? Make me yer matey, and I swear t'pull me load.
— Darros

Darros (Japanese: ダロス Daross) is a pirate in the Fire Emblem series.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light

Role

Darros was a member of the Galder pirates. When Marth and his army arrived in Galder, Darros approached him and requested to leave the pirates and join Marth's forces. Marth accepted him into his army, and he served him for the rest of the War of Shadows.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Darros is the only playable member of the Pirate class, which is unique in that it can walk over water terrain, allowing Darros to gain avoid bonuses when attacking on that terrain and traverse certain maps faster than other units; however, flying units can already traverse the terrain faster, and the avoid bonus is a decent benefit but not a huge strength. Statistically, he joins with a speed of 7, which is decent in the early-game but his 10% growth make it very hard to have a decent speed stat long-term. His base strength of 6 and 50% growth are both fairly solid, and his weapon level is high enough to use every axe, including strong weapons like the Devil Axe and Hammer. His base defense of 5 is not great, but his 40% growth is one of the best defense growths in the game and can bring his defense up to a decent point. Unfortunately, his skill is terrible, with a base of 2 and growth of 0%, meaning he will have terrible accuracy for the entire duration of the game. Additionally, his movement of 6 is fairly bad, and his ability to traverse more terrain doesn't really make up for it. Also, his lack of promotion deprives him of potentially useful stat boosts. His best attribute is his availability, as he joins in Chapter 2, meaning even though he is an overall mediocre unit, he can contribute for almost the entirety of the game and is worth deploying in the early chapters when you haven't recruited enough good units yet. However, in the long-term, Darros is a fairly mediocre unit.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon

Role

Darros is a pirate who decides to turn over a new leaf. Upon hearing of Marth's approach, he tracks him down and joins his forces. Despite appearing as an enemy, he is not aggressive towards the player's units, only moving towards Marth to initiate his recruitment conversation. He then serves as a simple soldier for the rest of the war.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Darros is a level 3 Pirate who joins in Chapter 2. His availability is his greatest advantage. All his base stats are either below average or outright terrible. He has high strength and HP growths, but dreadful skill and speed growths. His speed base is only high enough to avoid getting doubled by slower enemies. Since it will not increase much with levels, Darros will start getting doubled very soon. Especially in higher difficulties, he gets doubled and onerounded by many enemies. His terrible skill base and growth also make Darros's accuracy very poor. Few units in Shadow Dragon struggle with accuracy, so Darros's weakness in it makes him stand out in a bad way.

If Darros reaches promotion, he can reclass to Hero to remove his speed issue. That said, getting him there is a chore. His base axe rank is D, so he cannot use the Hammer without investment. He also has no good reclass options available before promotion. With so many disadvantages, it is difficult to justify using Darros over most other units. Bord, Cord and Barst are axe users who join in the same chapter, and they all have an advantage over Darros. Bord has a higher axe rank, Cord is faster, Barst has better bases and growths. They can also all reclass to Pirate without losing anything, so Darros's class is not a point in his favor.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Role

Darros was first added to the game in a special pirate variation as part of the Pirate's Pride update, and was made available to players in the thirty-first edition of the Tempest Trials+, "Royal Treasures", which initially ran from August 8, 2020 through August 18, 2020. The aforementioned pirate variation of Darros is the only one currently available in Heroes, and is based on his Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light incarnation; this variation is notably only the second character or variation solely credited to that game in the history of Heroes, after Wrys (who had held that distinction since Heroes's initial launch).

Personality

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

In Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light Darros's characterization is minimal. His recruitment dialogue does show that he wants to leave behind his life of piracy, and he considers himself a "simple man". Additionally, his ending shows that he enjoys living carefree on the seas.

Galder Harbor is located on the shore opposite Talys, the homeland of Princess Caeda. Galder was also the base for a large group of pirates—which included Darros, a reluctant member of the crew charged mainly with odd jobs. Originally an honest fisherman, Darros became a pirate entirely by accident, having been mistaken for a member of the crew due to his somewhat intimidating appearance. Still, he never really wanted to be a pirate, and when he encountered Marth, he seized the opportunity to leave the plundering life behind him and start anew! You'd think that with his background, the festival here in Askr might be something of an unpleasant reminder for Darros. Fortunately, he doesn't mind if it's only pretend piracy, and he'll happily play along in his pirate costume! Arr, matey!
