Let me fight with you to save my land, and I will use this silver bow to show you marksmanship unlike any you've ever seen.
— Jeorge to Marth

Jeorge (Japanese: ジョルジュ Jorjue) is an Archanean sniper who appears in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Mystery of the Emblem, and both of the DS remakes. He was born a noble but hated political drama, so he left home to live on his own terms. He serves Archanea, and his marksmanship is unmatched across the continent.

Biography

Early life

Jeorge was the son of Duke Noah of Menedy.[1] House Menedy was one of the five influential noble houses of Archanea, famed for its foresight and intrigue.[2] His family intended to marry him to Midia, but Jeorge called this off after Midia fell in love with Astram,[3] because he disagreed with using other people, and because he wanted to live a more free life.[4]

War of Shadows

When Archanea was invaded during the War of Shadows, Jeorge's father stayed loyal to Archanea and lost his life.[1] Jeorge was captured, but managed to escape,[5] and he joined up with Marth's army in Pyrathi (or, in Mystery of the Emblem Book 1's telling of the events, in Knorda).

After the War of Shadows, Jeorge became archer-captain of Archanea, and mentored Gordin in archery.

War of Heroes

During the War of Heroes, Jeorge was at first stationed near Castle Olbern, but left with his men to quell a rebellion. However, General Lang sent orders for Jeorge to return to the castle. Because Jeorge personally disliked Lang due to his behavior, Jeorge told his men to ignore the order to return to the castle, and to instead stay put and only attack the Altean army if they approached.[6]

Later, Emperor Hardin ordered Jeorge to guard a fort at Chiasmir, with the intent of having Jeorge die there.[7] Here, after talking with his former pupil Gordin or with Marth, Jeorge decided to defect from Archanea to the Altean army, due to his belief that Hardin and Archanea's actions were unjust.[8]

After the war, Jeorge formed the Archanean Free Knights to help protect the people from bandits.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light

Role

Jeorge appears in Chapter 9, where he has escaped to Pyrathi after leaving Dolhrian capture, and is recruited when Marth visits the eastern village.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jeorge joins in the mid-game as a level 1 Sniper, with base stats good enough to contribute right away. Of a particular note is his high base Weapon Level of 10, sufficient to use most bows with no investment. As long as Jeorge doubles - and with 12 base Speed, he will often double - he can one-round quite a few enemies from 2-range.

Jeorge has some advantages over other bow users in Blade of Light. First of all, he is the easiest to use at base. He requires no training, and he can use the Silver Bow in his inventory without investment. Second, he is the easiest bow user to reach Weapon Level 13 with, since he starts at 10 and has a 50% growth. This is important, because the player receives the Parthia at the end of Chapter 12 - a regalia bow with high Might and an activated ability giving its user +7 Resistance. It requires a Weapon Level of 13 to wield. Unless the player has trained another bow user since the moment they joined, Jeorge will meet that requirement the fastest. He can also be given a Manual instead of being trained; conveniently, there is a Manual inside a chest in Chapter 12, the same chapter when the Parthia is obtained. However, there is only one obtainable Manual in the entire game, so the player may want to use it on another unit.

When compared to units that are not bow users, Jeorge looks much worse. His only contribution is 2-range damage, and generally, only on player phase. While that can sometimes be useful, it is often redundant, because enemy stats in Blade of Light are low and avoiding counterattacks is not necessary to survive. Jeorge can one-shot/one-round Wyvern Knights and other strong enemies with the Parthia, but that is about as far as his usefulness goes. He is also an enemy-phase liability under most circumstances, since he cannot counter 1-range enemies. Finally, his Movement of 7 is good for a foot unit, but fliers and mounted units will outpace him, making him fall behind.

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

Book 1

Role

Jeorge reprises his role from Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, but as his joining chapter was cut, he now appears in Knorda Market—the ninth chapter of Mystery of the Emblem Book 1, equivalent to the eleventh of Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jeorge joins in Chapter 9 of Book 1 in Mystery of the Emblem as a pre-promoted Sniper. His base stats are fairly high, with a high enough weapon level to use most bows in the game with no investment. His base speed of 12 is enough to double most enemies and not get doubled by faster ones. As a Sniper, Jeorge is especially good at defeating enemy flying units, such as Dracoknights.

Jeorge's base weapon level is 10, and the most powerful bow in the game, the Parthia, requires a weapon level of 12; Parthia has 20 might, 100 hit, and doubles all experience gained by its wielder. It only has 17 uses, but the Hammerne staff can repair it. Jeorge needs four levels on average to use Parthia, but once he can wield it, his attacking power will improve significantly. There is not much competition for the Parthia, as other bow-users join with a much lower weapon level and require much more investment to use it. Unless the player has been training another bow-user for a long time, Jeorge will have a higher weapon level when he joins and will find it easier to reach the threshold of 12.

As a bow-user, Jeorge has no 1-range options, so his combat on enemy phase is almost nonexistent as he can only counter other ranged enemies. Additionally, enemies in Mystery of the Emblem are typically weak, so there is less demand for ranged attackers as taking counterattacks is less detrimental. However, Jeorge is the strongest bow-wielding unit in the game at base level, and can be used in chapters with a high number of strong enemy fliers such as Chapter 17 with no investment.

Book 2

Role

Jeorge is encountered twice as an enemy before being recruited: first in Chapter 5 where he does not attack the player, and again in Chapter 8 where he appears as the boss. He can be recruited by having Gordin speak with him.

If Jeorge was killed in Chapter 5, a nearby Sniper moves onto the gate to take his place on the first enemy phase of Chapter 8.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jeorge joins in Chapter 8 of Book 2 in Mystery of the Emblem as a pre-promoted Sniper. His base stats are fairly high, with a high enough weapon level to use the Parthia he joins with. Parthia is the most powerful bow in the game, with 20 might and 100 hit, and it doubles the user's experience gain; it only has 17 uses, but the Hammerne staff can repair it. Jeorge can also use every other bow in the game with no investment.

Jeorge's base stats are high enough to be immediately useful. His base speed of 13 is enough to double most enemies and prevent him from being doubled by faster ones. He can also grow faster than other units with Parthia's accelerated experience gain; while Jeorge's growths are very low, they can be increased with Star Shards.

As a bow-user, Jeorge has no 1-range options, so his combat on enemy phase is almost nonexistent – he can only counter other ranged enemies. Additionally, enemies in Mystery of the Emblem are typically weak, so there is less demand for ranged attackers as taking counterattacks is less detrimental. However, as a bow-user, Jeorge can be very effective against the strong enemy Wyverns fought after he joins.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon

Role

Jeorge fought to defend Archanea Palace from Dolhr's invasion, but his comrades were defeated and imprisoned. He eventually manages to escape and, upon hearing that Marth and Princess Nyna were traveling through Pyrathi, waited in a village there to join their army and resume fighting against Dolhr.

At the war's conclusion, Jeorge is gifted the bow Parthia, one of Archanea's three regalia, for his service.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jeorge is a pre-promoted Sniper with a B rank in bows and well on his way to A rank. He is likely the only unit capable of wielding the powerful and accurate Silver Bows by the time he joins in Chapter 9. In addition, the strongest bow, Parthia, is available only 4 chapters later, and Jeorge will likely reach A rank by then if he is used consistently. The lack of other bow wielders close to A rank essentially makes the Parthia exclusive to Jeorge for most of the game. His increased movement makes him much better at keeping up with other units than the unpromoted archers, allowing him to contribute heavy damage without being countered. He can easily bring down Pegasus Knights and all but the bulkiest Dracoknights with one shot, and he can even double attack some slower enemies.

Jeorge's growths other than Speed and Skill are low, and like all bow-locked units, his level-up rate is slow and he is a liability if he is left unprotected on enemy phase. That said, he is fast enough at base to not get doubled even on higher difficulties for quite a while. Even once he does get doubled by some enemies, he can still be used to chip down enemy HP without taking counterattacks. Jeorge's base stats are adequate for most of the game when paired with the high-rank bows he can use.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

Jeorge reprises his role from Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem. He is encountered twice as an enemy before being recruited: first in Chapter 5 where he does not attack the player, and again in Chapter 8 where he appears as the boss. In his second appearance, he can be recruited by having Gordin or Marth speak with him.

In addition, he appears as the boss of one version of Prologue 4, where he helps train the Seventh Platoon.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Jeorge joins at the end of chapter 8. He has serviceable bases and growths which, albeit with fairly low luck making him susceptible to low percentage crits, let him function well in the next few chapters, and most notably comes with an A rank in bows along with the Parthia. However, his bases will not carry him throughout the game, and he will start falling off later.

While Jeorge's overall combat might seem subpar, the Parthia improves it significantly, letting him one shot nearly every enemy flyer or do significant damage even on the highest difficulty. Jeorge also benefits from reclassing, being able to reclass into horseman to get a mount and access to swords or reclass into general to get a significant boost in defense (though he does lose some of his bow rank when reclassing into said classes). Jeorge's bow utility comes in handy for dealing with the many dangerous wyverns and dracoknights, as well as dealing useful chip damage while avoiding a counterattack if the enemy doesn't have a 1-2 range weapon, to help other units finish them off.

However Jeorge still isn't a very good combat unit by himself and will fall off near the endgame as enemy flyers will all but disappear, his mediocre strength will become a major issue, he will likely start getting doubled and other units can reclass into sniper as well in order to use the longbow, killer bow and even the brave bow with an arms scroll or a bit of training, much better than Jeorge himself. Even so, Jeorge is a useful unit for many maps and can find decent use for most of the game, but will likely never be a particularly standout combat or utility unit.

Jeorge is one of the characters available to be summoned by players from the game's initial launch. Only one variation of Jeorge is currently available in Heroes, based on his Mystery of the Emblem incarnation.

  5. "Prince Marth, I am Jeorge, an Archanean sniper. I fought to defend our palace from Dolhr, but the enemy's strength was too great. We lost, and I was captured. Thankfully, they're not half as bright as they are strong, and I managed to slip away when they were not looking. I heard you were on your way to Pyrathi and that Princess Nyna was with you, so I came here to offer my help. Let me fight with you to save my land, and I will use this silver bow to show you marksmanship unlike any you've ever seen." — Jeorge in Chapter 9, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
  6. "Soldier: Captain Jeorge. We've received orders to return to the castle immediately.
Jeorge: Orders from Lang, huh? I'm not fond of that man. His treatment of our people is simply intolerable. To work beneath him is an insult. Pay his orders no mind.
Soldier: But, Captain! You'll be accused of treason! Captain?! You can't be planning to defect to Altea...
Jeorge: No, that's not an option. If I were to defect now, I'd drag the entire platoon down with me. So for that reason alone, I will absolutely not take any risks that might besmirch our name.
    Soldier: Captain Jeorge...
Jeorge: Anyway, inform everyone: Do not move from your stations. However, if the enemy approaches, you may engage them.
" — Jeorge and one of his men in Chapter 5, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
  7. "Kris: A-ah, I see... By the way, may I ask you something? At Chiasmir Bridge, why were you...
Jeorge: Defending the castle, even though I'm an archer?
Kris: Er, yes. Well, it was quite fortunate for us, but...
Jeorge: Truly, bows aren't suited for defending castles. If the enemy gets too close, there's nothing we can do, but pray to God. However, Hardin fully knew that when he ordered that guard duty.
    Kris: ...In other words...
Jeorge: That's right. Basically, an execution. He might as well have told me to "die defending the castle."
    Kris: But why would he...?
Jeorge: I kept pointing out the errors of his ways, and I didn't support Lang, to boot. From Hardin's viewpoint, I was nothing but a hindrance.
" — Jeorge and Kris in their first base conversation, Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem
  8. "I pledged allegiance to Princess Nyna, but as for Hardin... I've had it with him. Taking other countries by force, executing "rebels" without reason. The Archanean army I see now is just a collection of hired thugs. There's not even a shred of chivalry left. To return the Kingdom of Archanea to what it was once before... I must take it upon myself to turn my bow against my homeland. Gordin. Convey that to Prince Marth." — Jeorge in Chapter 8, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
