Surtr (Japanese: スルト Surtr) is the king of Múspell, and the central antagonist for Book II of Fire Emblem Heroes.

Role

Surtr is the king of Múspell, briefly mentioned by Loki to be her king in Paralogue 10, and again in Paralogue 13.

Surtr first appears briefly in Book II, Chapter 1. He has conquered and destroyed the kingdom of Nifl, killing the queen in front of her daughter Fjorm, and is now invading Askr. Fjorm, who has followed them, tries to fight against Surtr, but he is too powerful for her and knocks her out.

In Chapter 2, Surtr battles the Order of Heroes alongside Laevatein and Loki. Because their weapons prove to be ineffective against Surtr, the Order retreats.

Surtr breifly appears with Veronica and Loki at the end of Chapter 3, Part 5. After Loki reminds them of the alliance between and Múspell and Embla, Veronica leaves. Surtr then tells Loki that he will destroy Embla and kill Veronica after he has destroyed Askr, claiming that the world only needs one ruler.

In Chapter 4, he and his forces appear in Part 5 to confront the Order of Heroes as Fjorm is preparing the rite to reactivate the gate to Nifl. He threatens Alfonse, stating that if they leave then he will be unopposed to destroy a nearby Askran town and kill everyone living there. As the Order escapes through the gate, Surtr orders that his forces advance on the town, but is opposed by Veronica, who only wishes to conquer Askr. Surtr prepares to face her and Xander, only to be stopped by Loki, who points out that the town is empty after Alfonse sent them a signal to evacuate. At Loki's suggestion, Surtr decides to keep Veronica alive for now and sends Laevatein after the Order.

As a playable character

There are two different variations of Surtr available to Heroes. The normal variation of Surtr had information as a playable unit added in the Whispers of Death update; he became available for summoning by players on November 21, 2018. A pirate-themed variation of Surtr was made available between the period of August 5, 2021 through September 5, 2021 as part of the Perilous Seas update.

Surtr is power-hungry, violent, and sadistic. He murdered Fjorm's mother in front of her and later taunts her about it. He also launches an invasion of Askr with no apparent purpose other than to destroy it. He is also willing to make temporary alliances to further his own ambitions, as hinted in part 5 of chapter 3, where he reveals that, once Askr is destroyed, he plans to turn on Veronica and invade Embla.
