Hello! You're here! Welcome to the forest of death! My name is Kronya. This weakling girl was just a borrowed look for me. This is what I really look like! Now, you vermin... I'll take down every last one of you!
— Kronya

Kronya (pronounced /ˈkɹɒnjə/[key]; Japanese: クロニエ Klonie) is an antagonist appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She is a member of those who slither in the dark.

Biography

Kronya is a member of those who slither in the dark. She first appears at the end of Chapter 6 under the guise of Monica von Ochs, a student who vanished from the Officers Academy in Imperial Year 1179 and was presumed to have run away. Kronya infiltrates Garreg Mach Monastery as a spy, joins the Black Eagles and spends around 3 months at the monastery. During Jeralt, Byleth and their chosen class' visit to a ruined chapel of the monastery, where they subdue as many Demonic Beasts as possible, Jeralt notices the monsters they are fighting bear strange stones on their foreheads. Upon seeing this, Kronya sneaks into the scene pretending to be a rescued student and proceeds to stab Jeralt once he lowers his guard. Byleth then attempts to use their Divine Pulse and attack Kronya, but is stopped by Thales, the leader of those who slither in the dark, who then leaves with Kronya. One month later, Byleth and their allies pursue Kronya into the Sealed Forest to avenge Jeralt and defeat her in battle. Fellow cult member Solon then appears and rips her heart out; ritually sacrifices her to perform a dark spell meant to seal Byleth in a void for all eternity.

While it is never confirmed, story and character dialogue implies those who slither in the dark murdered the original Monica sometime during her disappearance so Kronya could infiltrate Garreg Mach Monastery under her identity, a theory which is shared by Seteth.[3]

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Role

Kronya is the boss of the first half of Chapter 10, and defeating her allows Byleth to upgrade the Sword of the Creator to its true form, the Sublime Creator Sword. In her Monica disguise, she can be interacted with in Chapters 7 and 8 at the monastery.

Personality and character

Kronya is extremely sadistic and bloodthirsty. She takes great pleasure in inflicting pain and violence upon others, and is more than happy to follow her Agarthan masters in order to sate her bloodlust,[4] showing a similar disposition with the Summoner in Heroes.[5] Kronya is impatient and lacks tolerance toward failure,[6] constantly wishing to show herself useful. Like all on-screen Agarthans, she considers herself to be a member of Fódlan's master race and the surface-dwelling humans to be nothing but lowly animals, almost exclusively referring them as "vermin";[7] however, Kronya shows she is capable of feeling something akin to friendship towards the Summoner in Heroes, in spite of considering them an inferior being,[8] and during her last moments, she begs for aid from those whom she just had tried to kill moments prior.[9] Kronya also believes that deep down, humans relish in causing death and violence just like her, despite their claims of peace.[10]

— Kronya's boss quote in Chapter 10.
You're a fool to be so brazen. You'll never avenge your father at this rate. I'll have to kill you too! With my own hands!
— Kronya, fighting Byleth in Chapter 10.
Kronya: Huh? What are you— Are you here to kill me?
Edelgard: I am. Prepare yourself for death while you still can.

Leonie: Monica. You'll pay for what you've done.
Kronya: I told you! I am not Monica, I am Kronya! Do not call me by that fake name!
Leonie: I don't care what you're called. I don't care if it takes my last breath. I'll kill you.
Kronya: Please! My powers are beyond your comprehension. You're just a filthy worm!

— Kronya, fighting Leonie in Chapter 10.
