Miklan Anschutz Gautier[4] (pronounced /'mɪklɑn 'ɡɑtieɪ/[key]; Japanese: マイクラン=アンシュッツ=ゴーティエ Miklan Anchutz Gautier) is the firstborn son of Matthias Raoul Gautier and the elder brother of Sylvain. The denial of his inheritance of House Gautier in favor of Sylvain due to his lack of a Crest led to his resentment towards Sylvain and eventual disownment from House Gautier.
Miklan is a non-playable enemy character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Additionally, he is also a non-playable ally in the spinoff game Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.
Biography
Pre-games
Miklan was born as the eldest son of Matthias Raoul Gautier, the then-margrave of House Gautier. However, because House Gautier's role of defending Faerghus from Sreng invasions dictates that their heirs need to possess a Crest in order to wield the Lance of Ruin, Miklan was denied his inheritance of the house in favor of his younger brother Sylvain, who possessed a Crest;[5] instead, he received training in defense strategies personally by his father.[6][7] Fueled by jealously, Miklan started bullying Sylvain during their childhood. The extent of Miklan's abuse was severe; he once shoved Sylvain inside a well, and once also left him alone in the mountainside during winter.[8] Miklan later cut ties entirely from House Gautier[9] and became the leader of a group of bandits headquartered in Fraldarius territory,[10] eventually becoming infamous in northern Faerghus.[11]
Three Houses
In 1180, Miklan and his band of thieves eventually stole the Lance of Ruin from its hiding place in House Gautier.[12] Archbishop Rhea then assigned Byleth and their class to rout Miklan and his bandits and take the lance back. The group succeeded in defeating Miklan's bandits and weakening Miklan himself, but the Lance of Ruin suddenly transformed Miklan into a monster known as the Black Beast, causing most of his men to flee in terror. Byleth and their class defeated Miklan for a second time, finally killing him, and retrieved the lance.[13]
Warriors: Three Hopes
After Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd ascended the throne in 1180, he collaborated with Margrave Gautier to enact a plan to capture Miklan[14] in order to make use of his tactical acumen due to a lack of capable leaders in his army army at the time,[15] a plan which was met with much apprehension from Dimitri's close friends.[16][17] Miklan was eventually captured by Gustave and assigned to be a commander of an army unit consisting of soldiers both with and without Crests, under the condition that he be detained and executed if he does anything untoward.[18]
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Role
Miklan is the boss of Chapter 5. Right after being defeated as Miklan, he will transform into a Black Beast, warping every playable unit into the center of the map.

Personality and character
Miklan is defined by his jealousy and hatred of his younger brother Sylvain due to the latter being born with a Crest, resulting in his own disinheritance. Sylvain describes him as a bully who always went out of his way to make him miserable as a child. Due to his lack of a Crest, Miklan has a desperate desire to prove himself, to the point where he is willing to steal his family's Hero's Relic in order to do so.
His personality is expanded upon in Warriors: Three Hopes, where he is conscripted into the Kingdom army on the Azure Gleam route. Miklan retains his obsession with Crests, but Dimitri's influence on him allows him to channel this obsession into a healthier drive to prove that those without Crests can be just as successful as those with. While still curt and antisocial, his valor in battle earns him the respect of allies such as Catherine and enemies such as Gwendal.
