Maurice (pronounced /moɹˈis/[key][1]; Japanese: モーリス Maurice) is a character who appears in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Historically, Maurice was one of the 10 Elites who fought in the War of Heroes. By the time of Three Houses, he has been erased from history due to transforming into a demonic beast. His monstrous form is known to mankind as the Wandering Beast (Japanese: 彷徨えし獣 Wandering beast).
Biography
Maurice was one of the Elites who aided Nemesis during the War of Heroes. Like the other Elites, he had received the blood of a Nabatean from Nemesis, which manifested as a Crest; as well, he had received his own Hero's Relic, the magical sword Blutgang. At some point, he started a family in the land that would later become Leicester, which led to his bloodline and Crest to continue persisting through Fódlan's history. During the War of Heroes, he fought alongside Nemesis against Seiros and her army, but lost.
At some point, the power of his relic transformed him into a hideous monster, and he began attacking and eating innocent people. As the Church of Seiros feared these incidents would reveal the true nature of Crests to Fódlan, they erased nearly all traces of Maurice and his life from historical texts, leading to Maurice being forgotten. Maurice's Crest, however, still persisted through his bloodline, and would become known as the "Crest of the Beast", a cursed Crest that would transform its bearers into demonic beasts.
By Imperial Year 1185, Maurice, now known as the "Wandering Beast", would continue stalking Edmund territory to slaughter innocent people during the night. One Crest scholar would soon theorize that the identity of this monster is Marianne, though Byleth quickly drives him off. Later on, the two would venture into Edmund territory to find Maurice himself, and they subsequently kill him. Thanking them for putting an end to his suffering, he then relinquishes Blutgang to Marianne before finally passing on.

Maurice seems to have little control of his monster's bloodthirsty instincts, and holds a great disdain for the form, describing it as a "nightmare of a thousand years", and wishing to be liberated from it.
