The Struggle Commences (Japanese: 争覇の幕開け Opening of a Power Struggle) is the fourth chapter of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes on the Scarlet Blaze route and the last chapter available in the free demo.

Two years have passed since the Officer's Academy closed its doors. Edelgard has reformed Adrestia's military and social structure, Count Varley has been targeted for censure and assassination by the Central Church, and Lord Arundel and his accomplices remain at large. Edelgard decides the time has come to declare war on the Central Church due to its abuses of its position for its own benefit. She and Hubert gather the former Black Eagles and explain that she intends to invade and conquer Garreg Mach Monastery in the coming days, and wants her former classmates to act as officers in her army. With preparations complete, the Adrestian army marches for Garreg Mach.
With the aid of Imperial generals Randolph and Ladislava, the Black Eagles besiege and capture Garreg Mach. Rhea and the Church are forced to retreat through Ailell, the Valley of Torment, to seek refuge in Faerghus. Edelgard receives a report of a great white beast aiding the Church forces in their retreat. Meanwhile, Alliance lord Judith reports to Claude that the Empire has conquered Garreg Mach and that Count Gloucester and Acheron have defected to the Empire. Finally, Dimitri is informed of Garreg Mach's downfall; he acknowledges the virtue of Edelgard's reforms and goals, but believes that Faerghus needs gradual reform instead of rapid upheaval and commits to war against the Empire by granting Rhea asylum. A Kingdom knight informs him that Count Rowe has declared fealty to the Empire and his bannerman Lonato is now marching to kill the archbishop.
