What Makes a King is the eighth chapter of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes on the Golden Wildfire route and the final chapter of Part I.

As Judith and the former Count Gloucester hold the Great Bridge of Myrddin, the Golden Deer arrive in Goneril territory just in time to join the defense of Leicester. Shahid and Nader lead a massive Almyran army to attack Fódlan's Locket, but Nader defects to the Alliance mid-battle and helps Claude defeat Shahid. In the aftermath, Shez and Claude corner Shahid, and Claude attempts to convince Shahid to surrender. Shahid refuses and fruitlessly attacks Claude, forcing Claude to execute him. With his death, the remaining Almyran forces retreat. Claude admits that he has known Nader since childhood and that he arranged things so that Nader would help him if Shahid menaced the border again. The Alliance forces and Nader partake in an Almyran tradition of feasting after battle. Arval comments on how closed-off Claude acts, and Shez notes that Arval is obsessed with their conflict with Byleth; Arval admits that they feel like they are destined to battle them. The Alliance turns to rebuilding as the conflict between Adrestia and Faerghus peters out into a stalemate.
