|“||My parents died when I was small, and I came to live in the monastery. It was an aimless existence. But sometimes, a knight would pass by, wearing magnificent armor. That knight was Jeralt. And the first time he laid his eyes on me, he made me his squire!||”|

In Imperial Year 1146, Alois was discovered by Jeralt, one of the Knights of Seiros, and became his squire due to his resemblance to Jeralt's previous squire who had just recently died. Because of this, Alois became determined to become one of the Knights of Seiros, even after Jeralt's disappearance in 1159 during a fire, which he achieved in the same year. In 1180, Alois finds Jeralt and their child Byleth near Remire Village, who had just recently saved Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude from a bandit attack. Alois then recommends Byleth to Archbishop Rhea so they may become a teacher at the Officers Academy.
If Alois was recruited during Part I, after the timeskip he returns to Garreg Mach Monastery on the day of the millennium festival and accompanies Byleth and their chosen faction throughout the war. Should Alois not be recruited on the Crimson Flower route, he remains with the Church of Seiros and later participates in the Church's surprise assault on an Adrestian-controlled Garreg Mach after the fall of Leicester. He fails to retake the monastery and is slain by the Black Eagle Strike Force.
Alois is a recruitable playable character on all routes and an enemy on Chapter 15 of the Crimson Flower route should he not be recruited in Chapter 11.

Alois was once a subordinate of Jeralt, and thus respects him greatly. He is a cheerful and amiable man who enjoys telling jokes, even though nobody finds them funny.

Alois, Sun of the Knights
Once all the fighting had come to an end, Alois officially took up the position of captain of the Knights of Seiros. In this capacity, he was much beloved, and the Knights became more unified than ever under his command. It is said that their accomplishments during his tenure were beyond even what Jeralt's troop had achieved.
Alois, Family Man (Crimson Flower)
Once the long war against those who slither in the dark came to an end, Alois and his family moved to Remire Village and lived happily as farmers. It is said that from the moment he put down his sword and picked up a hoe, he never so much as thought about turning back.
Mercedes, Benevolent Soul & Alois, Sun of the Knights
Mercedes left home for a life as a cleric at Garreg Mach. Alois, as Jeralt's successor, officially assumed the role of captain of the Knights of Seiros. Though the two were quite busy with their daily activities, they would often find time to get together in the evenings so Alois could hear Mercedes's ghost stories. No one can say for certain whether it was the constant exposure to spooky tales or some other cause, but from that time on, Alois's reputation became that of a totally fearless fighter. Mercedes's quiet support was widely credited for this increase in bravery. Her blessing came to be known as a guarantee of victory.
