Xane (Japanese: チェイニー Cheine) is an Archanean Manakete and the only character in the Fire Emblem series of the Freelancer class. Initially, he claims to be from a far away land, and that all of his kin can transform as he does, though no other Manakete is shown to have his ability to transform into other people, though it may have something to do with him discarding his dragonstone.
Role
Xane is met in Chapter 16, where he is being held captive by the Dolhr army for his ability to shape shift with the intention of forcing him into service. If spoken to with Marth, he will instead join the Altean army, serving through the remainder of the War of Shadows.[2]

Role
Xane appears in Chapter 16 as an enemy unit, though he is not aggressive. He was captured by Dolhr and forced to work in their service, though he states he had no intention to waste his talents on such a country.[3] After he is freed from his cell and Marth speaks to him, Xane accompanies Marth for the rest of the war.

Trivia
- Xane's Manakete heritage may have been the impetus for Shadow Dragon's PAL region localization team to localize the name of his class as "Chameleon".
- In Tear Ring Saga, there is a character named Narsus who is very similar to Xane, with both of them having the ability to transform into other units.
