Reiden (Japanese: ライデン Raiden) is a knight of the Sable Order of Grust, serving under Camus. He was one of the band of Sable Knights who escorted Princess Nyna of Archanea to Aurelis, but was captured by Dolhr after accomplishing this goal. Years later, he and fellow Sable Order survivors Roberto and Belf appeared before Marth as he travelled to the Ice Dragon Temple, seeking to join his forces.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Reiden joins in Chapter 13, which is past the halfway point of New Mystery of the Emblem. He is a late-joining Cavalier with D rank swords and C rank lances, which is mediocre without promotion. However, Reiden has a high base level of 15, allowing him to be promoted with a Master Seal when he joins the army. With promotion bonuses, Reiden makes for a good enough filler combat unit.
Reiden's advantage is having high personal base stats, especially offensively. This makes him a very flexible unit since he can reclass into any physical class and be useful. While almost every unit in New Mystery of the Emblem can reclass, Reiden's bases make him better at it than many other candidates.
Reiden's base C rank in lances is also useful when he joins. This period of New Mystery is full of enemy dragons, and Reiden can use the Dragonpike with no investment. The demand for anti-dragon units is high, so Reiden may find a deployment slot by necessity.
Reiden's disadvantage is that his reclassing utility is lost without promotion. Not promoting Leiden is a real possibility; Master Seals are a limited resource, after all. The player could have promoted many other reliable units who join before Reiden, leaving him with no way to take advantage of his personal bases. While Reiden can still reclass before promotion, reclassing between unpromoted classes is much less useful past the game's halfway point. His unpromoted stats are unlikely to hold up, especially on higher difficulties.
