Lefcandith Gauntlet (Japanese: レフカンディの罠 The Trap of Lefcandy) is the seventh chapter in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the sixth chapter in Book I of Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem.

Plot

Main article: Lefcandith Gauntlet/Script

With Aurelis liberated, Marth sets out for Archanea. In order to reach the capital, he must traverse the Lefcandith Gauntlet, a mountain pass guarded by Grust's soldiers and the Macedonian Whitewings, led personally by Princess Minerva. Minerva and the Grustian general Harmein get into a brief argument about Harmein's tactics, and Harmein forces her into compliance by threatening harm to her sister Maria just as the battle starts. Midway through, Minerva gets fed up with Harmein and abandons him, allowing Marth to defeat and kill him. During the battle, Marth also encounters a friendly manakete named Bantu, who warns him that he can only challenge Medeus with the power of the divine dragon Tiki and joins his cause. After the battle, Malledus lectures Marth on the history of the manaketes and reminds him that the entire resistance against Dolhr rides on him.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Reclassing:

  • If Jagen is available, and you haven't done so yet, reclass him into a Dracoknight. If Jagen is unavailable, Wendell is a suitable alternative.

Initial Strategy:

  • Hold your starting position and let the enemy Pegasus Knights and Dracoknights come to you.
  • Use your Archers and Merric to eliminate them.
  • Note: Minerva and the Whitewings are neutral. They won't attack and will retreat on turn 6. Defeating Minerva forces the Whitewings to retreat. But don't worry, this doesn't affect recruitment opportunities later.

Village Defense:

  • Don't let the Thief reach the village. After safeguarding the village and eliminating the initial enemies, make use of the first save point.
  • Approach the eastern village. Neutralize the four enemies nearby, but be cautious of the Archer with the Longbow.
  • Visit this village to recruit Bantu, the Manakete. He can use the Firestone from Chapter 5.
  • Bantu acts as a good tank for a few chapters but has limited growth. His true value lies in recruiting Tiki later, a vital ally against the final boss.

Positioning:

  • Place Jagen (or Wendell) 10 spaces above the southeastern fort.
  • Be careful when approaching the second save point. Don’t cross its range until fully prepared.

Blocking Reinforcements:

Final Assault:

  • After handling the reinforcements, engage and trigger the Knights, which will bring forth two additional Javelin enemies. After their elimination, target Harmein.
  • Once Harmein is defeated, seize the gate.

Tips:

  • Remember: Even if defeated, Minerva and Whitewings can still be recruited later.
  • Bantu's main importance lies in recruiting Tiki, a crucial unit for late-game challenges.

Trivia

  • In Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Mystery of the Emblem, Lefcandith Valley is located directly south of Aurelis, but in Shadow Dragon it is located to the south-east, on the same peninsula as Galder Harbor. This is because the world map used in Shadow Dragon is based on the one found in the Mystery of the Emblem guide, which also uses this placement for Lefcandith Valley. Whether this was a mistake, or an intentional change of the location is unknown.
