Personality

Owing to his lack of dialogue, little can be seen of Hyman's personality, but he appears to be a ruthless bandit without any tolerance for those that try to leave the Soothsires.

In the anime, Hyman can be friendly and accommodating to competent subordinates like Navarre. He is also seen to enjoy betting on Arena battles. Hyman was enraged and confused when Navarre left his forces.

Quotes

Battle quote

So you guys want to die? I'll grant your wish!
— Hyman, in Mystery of the Emblem.
Har. You must really want to die, comin' into the Soothsires' palace unbidden!
— Hyman, in Shadow Dragon.

Death quote

Urgh... I'll remember you...
— Hyman, in Mystery of the Emblem.
Arrgh...One day it'll be you!
— Hyman, in Shadow Dragon.

Trivia

  • Hyman is the first boss in the series to have a portrait, as his predecessors Gazzak and Gomer lacked portraits in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. He shares his portrait with a significant number of the cast with a total of ten bosses using Hyman's portrait.
  • Hyman does not need to be defeated in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, as he begins the battle off of the castle tile and moves onto it on his first turn. This means Lena can warp Julian to the castle on turn 1 before Hyman has a chance to move. Marth can then be warped to the castle and seize it without killing Hyman. However there is no alternate dialogue or change to the narrative should Hyman live.
