Appearance(s)

Dolph and I are going to be your reinforcements. Archanea has nothing left for me. For the justice that I believe in, allow me to fight by your side again, Prince Marth.
— Macellan

Macellan (Japanese: ミシェラン Mishelan) is a knight of the Holy Kingdom of Archanea. He was one of the retinue of knights who assisted in Princess Nyna's doomed escape attempt from Pales at the onset of the War of Shadows, and was captured and imprisoned for the rest of the war, until Nyna returned with Marth's forces to reclaim Pales. After the war, he departed the Archanean army to form a band of border watchmen; in the War of Heroes, he travelled to Altea to offer his assistance to Marth in reclaiming the castle.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light

Role

Macellan was imprisoned with Boah, Midia, Dolph and Tomas, in a cell in Pales under the occupation of Volzhin and the forces of Dolhr. During Marth's assault on the palace and its Dolhr occupation, Macellan and the other prisoners were freed and joined Marth's army.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Macellan is unlocked alongside another very similar Knight, Dolph, in Chapter 12; Macellan is statistically worse than Dolph in every stat besides a 1 point advantage in his luck base. Even ignoring the fact there is another very similar character that is better in every way, Macellan is simply horrendous. His speed is so low—3 base and 20% growth—that he will get doubled by practically everything in the game. His strength is very mediocre for a character recruited fairly late into the game. His weapon level is too low to use strong weapons like Silver Swords or Levin Swords. His skill, luck, and even HP are similarly mediocre. His strongest base stat, his defense, is the same as Draug's, a Knight recruited in Chapter 1. He also has the same flaw universal to Knights and Generals: an abysmal 5 movement. Even amongst the typically weak class of Knight, Macellan stands out as almost completely worthless. If you really want to use a knight, Draug, Roger, or even Dolph are better options that are obtained at the same time or earlier. Macellan should only be used if most of your units have already died.

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

In Mystery of the Emblem, promotion gains for HP and weapon level consist of giving the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class's base value. If the character's value for one of those two stats is higher than their promoted class's base value, they will not receive any bonus in that stat.

Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga

Role

When the army of Dolhr came to lay siege to Pales at the onset of the War of Shadows, Macellan was part of the band of knights convened by Boah to lead Princess Nyna to safety. The group was instead cornered by Dolhr's forces and was forced to try and fight its way out. In the end, they were defeated and captured upon the arrival of Camus, and were imprisoned in the palace, where they remained for three years until Marth arrived with Nyna.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Macellan joins in Chapter 12 of Shadow Dragon as a level 3 Knight. His base stats are poor except for defense, and he will get doubled by all enemies in higher difficulties. Macellan only has a D level in lances, so he has no access to effective lances like the Ridersbane and Dragonpike without investment.

Macellan is seven levels away from promotion, and he struggles to reach and defeat enemies as a Knight. His growth rates are decent and they can be improved through reclassing, but he will have E in every weapon type other than lances, and will struggle to contribute anything. Other units have better weapon ranks, access to multiple weapon types, higher levels, and better stats than Macellan, likely multiple chapters before he is recruited.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

During the War of Heroes, shortly after Marth's army had reached the Altea palace and was preparing to enter and reclaim it, Macellan arrived and offered his assistance in doing so.

Personality

Macellan's personality receives almost no exploration in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and its sequels and remakes. However, his death quotes imply he is strongly loyal to Princess Nyna. Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem gives slightly more insight into his character; he has a strong enough sense of justice to desert Hardin when he becomes a tyrant, and he enjoys cooking.
