Ever since I was a child... I wanted to protect those precious to me. I studied hard, here in Khadein, because I really desired that power. However, being together with Prince Marth, and fighting that war by his side... I learned something. That the key to success, more than pursuing power alone...is to join forces with your comrades.

Wind and Thunder (Japanese: 風と雷 Wind and Thunder) is the first DLC bonus chapter of Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem.
Plot
- Main article: Wind and Thunder/Script
Sometime before the War of Heroes, Wendell dispatches a group consisting of Merric, Arlen, Linde, and Etzel to investigate the ruins that litter the deserts of Khadein, due to rumors that Gharnef's Heretics continue to hold rituals in those ruins despite Gharnef's death in the War of Shadows, which turn out to be true. Meanwhile, Michalis, revealed to have survived his last stand in Macedon, searches for his missing sister Maria; his searches also take him to the ruins of Khadein. Tagging along him is Phina, whom Michalis saved from several bandits. Both groups can eventually meet and converge, with Michalis agreeing to assist Merric in his mission as long as he doesn't get in his way.
After killing the Heretics in the ruins, Merric and Arlen decide to investigate further. They find out that the Heretics used Gharnef's forbidden magic that can revive deceased people to life and theorize that the Heretics intended to use the magic to revive Gharnef, which Merric's group managed to avert. Merric then thanks Arlen for his help and reaffirms his friendship with him, much to Arlen's annoyance. After splitting up to search for more information, Gharnef's spirit manipulates Arlen in the form of a hallucination and manages to convince him that his comrades are secretly enemies waiting to betray him and that he should give in to his envy and hatred towards Merric.
