Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Overview:

  1. Primary Objective: Save Archanean knights imprisoned in the upper left corner.
  2. Enemy Threats: Mage, Archers, Knight, Sniper, Volzhin (boss), and reinforcements including Heimler and his men.
  3. Treasures: Dragonpike chest, Boots (bottom right), Master Seal #2, and an armory selling swords.
  4. Outcome: If you have 15 or fewer units alive at the chapter's end, you'll proceed to Chapter 12x.

New Unit Details:

  1. Dolph: Outclasses Macellan except for luck and strength. Surpasses Draug in non luck and speed growths if trained, but inferior to Wolf, or Sedgar as a General.
  2. Macellan: Inferior in most stats but has some advantages in luck and strength.
  3. Tomas: Suitable Gordin or Castor replacement if they're untrained/dead. Not worthwhile if you have a trained bowman.
  4. Midia: Inferior to a trained Cavalier. Recruits Astram.
  5. Boah: Poor stats and growths. Useful for his C staff rank, can use Warp and Physic immediately.

Saving the Prisoners:

  • On Hard-4 and lower, it is possible for the prisoners to survive until help arrives, with liberal application of Physic from your units. Midia in the top left, Boah in the bottom left, Tomas and Macellan in safe spots and Dolph in the top right. The Mage will prioritize Midia over Boah due to her lower resistance, allowing Boah to be left in his range unmolested; Dolph's positioning allows only one of the two Archers to attack while the other has no target all and will not seek out Boah either. Multiple (3-4) Physics must be spammed by your staff users each turn to keep them alive until you arrive. However, Warp is still an alternative; see below:
  • On Hard-5, Warp usage is now mandatory to save all five prisoners without relying on repeatedly dodging lethal attacks as a result of enemy equipment upgrades. While Boah and Midia are able to survive one enemy each, Tomas, Dolph and Macellan all get OHKO'd by the Bolganone Mage, and doubled and ORKO'd by the Silver Bow Archers. Since there are only two safe spots, if nothing is done, Tomas, who has the most evasion of the three, will have to try to dodge lethal Bolganones each and every turn until help arrives. Fortunately, the nearby Knight does not move; the unit being Warped in only has to ORKO the Mage; once he falls, there is enough space on the left side of the cell to stay out of range of the Archers until help arrives.
  • Once the Mage is killed via Warp, it is sufficient to simply have all five prisoners cram the left side of the cell. Neither Archer will ever move if left alone, and opening the cell door is not necessary for their recruitment. The unit Warped in can kill the Knight and rejoin the rest of the army.

Clearing the Palace

  • Have Minerva and another axe user enemy-phase the Knights with Hammers. Other units should kill the Thieves; one of them drops a Warp in case your old one was broken. If this Warp is necessary to save the prisoners, use a unit with a full inventory to kill the Thief carrying it so it can be sent to the convoy, making it easier to get it to your staff user.
  • On turn 3, cavalry reinforcements start to spawn from behind you. Leave 2 Generals behind to plug the gates and continue on. You can Physic them if they get low on HP and Vulneraries aren't cutting it.
  • Two Mages will be moving in from the south, followed by Heimler and his Cavaliers. The Mages show up first, and will always attack Marth if he is in range. This can be used to strategically lure the front Mage out of position and past your units to allow the back Mage to be enemy-phased.
  • Once Heimler's squad shows up, enemy-phase the first Cavalier with an anti-cavalry weapon, then rush the remaining two enemies down on player-phase.
  • The treasure room contains a General. Lure him out before defeating him as he is being covered by a Sniper.
  • Lure the Sniper one tile left so he has wall on three sides out of four. Do not counterattack him; unequip if necessary; you do not want a Curate moving to heal the Sniper, as he will be covered at 1-range by the Sniper and safe from 2-range due to the only tile at 2-range being occupied by the unit opening the door. Once he is lured to the left, open the door and box him in so he can't attack or be accessible to the Curates.
  • Fight the Manakete with high-Luck units to avoid a potentially lethal crit.
  • Loot the chests and visit the Armory if you're short on swords. Don't forget the Boots in the bottom right. Steel-, Silver- and Kill- swords are all nice to have, but don't bother with the Armorslayers; it WTDs against Knights and most Generals and is overall much less effective than using a Hammer.
  • Fight Volzhin with fast units, as he can double you with his 15-16 AS on Hard-5. If you want your Bolganone in mint condition, try to crit him down in one go.

Trivia

  • In Shadow Dragon, there is a forest tile that lacks the visual distinction of one; this forest is distinct in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light.
  • This map is reused for Chapter 20 of Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem Book II.
