“ | I am Lyn, of the Lorca tribe. You’re safe now. | ” | — Lyn to the tactician |
---|
Lyndis (Japanese: リンディス Lindis), more commonly known as Lyn (Japanese: リン Lin), is one of the Lorca tribe of Sacae, the sole survivor of a massacre of the tribe by the bandits of Taliver. She is the daughter of Hassar, the Lorca chieftain, and Madelyn, the daughter of Lord Hausen of Caelin, and she was named for her late grandmother, Hausen's wife; both of her parents perished in the Taliver assault. Some months after the demise of her tribe, she was embroiled in an inheritance dispute spearheaded by her granduncle Lundgren after learning of her Caelin heritage, and a year afterward joined Eliwood and Hector in their investigations into the Black Fang and the activities of Nergal.
Lyn is one of the three lord characters of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, along with Eliwood and Hector; unlike her co-stars, she was created specifically for Fire Emblem, as was the territory of Caelin, and as such her ultimate fate is not even hinted at in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, the chronological successor game.
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Role
Lyn's tale
Months after the death of her parents and the rest of her tribe, living alone in some corner of Sacae, Lyn found a tactician on the ground. She asked to travel with him so she could seek to avenge her dead parents. In Bulgar, she met Sain and Kent, knights of Caelin who were tasked with finding and informing her of her true heritage: that she is the granddaughter of Hausen, Caelin's marquess. From there, her journey changed to travelling to Caelin to to meet her grandfather. Early on, they stopped at a Sacaen shrine and acquire the Mani Katti, a sacred sword that only Lyn can use.
As her journey progressed, it arose that Lundgren, Hausen's younger brother, sought to end her life to ensure his succession to the rule of Caelin by dispatching mercenaries and bandits after her. All the same, Lyn met many companions that joined her in her journey, including Eliwood, the son of the marquess of Pherae, who assisted her from behind the scenes late in her journey. Ultimately, she reached Castle Caelin and slew Lundgren in battle. She was then taken to meet her grandfather, almost dead from the extensive poisoning by Lundgren, who was relieved to at least meet her before his death; she convinced him that he still has much living to do, and he quickly recovered. Still, due to his illness, Lyn took on many of his duties.
Eliwood/Hector's tale
One year later, with Caelin still largely under her care, the army of Laus came to Caelin while fleeing Laus itself and attacked the castle. On Hausen's orders, she fled the castle with Sain, Kent, Florina and Wil, leaving him trapped within under the Laus occupation. She dispatched Florina to quickly fly away to find help while the rest of the group stayed put in the dense, movement-hindering forests; Florina found that Eliwood and Hector's group were approaching, and so the two groups eventually united and worked together to free Caelin, with Lyn meeting Eliwood again. After the suppression of the Bern occupation, they found Hausen in the back rooms of the castle, injured by knife-wound from Ephidel but still alive, and first learned of the involvement of the Black Fang in Laus's insurrection. After ensuring that Caelin and her grandfather would be looked after, Lyn set out to accompany Eliwood and Hector for the remainder of their quest; traveling through Bern and to Valor. Along the way, she frequently provided advice and ideas to Eliwood and Hector, acting as a voice of restraint to Hector's brash ways.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Lyn initially starts out subpar as an offensive unit, with her variation of the Lord class being very strongly modeled after the Myrmidon class. Her low strength base will not suffice to get her kills on most enemies at first, even if she doubles. Her defenses also leave something to be desired, which is typical of myrmidon units, and she will not be able to fare well against bulky or dangerous foes that have high hit rates (although her high speed means Lyn can easily dodge most units using swords or axes).
Lyn has access to the Mani Katti to deal with particularly powerful knight or mounted units, and the high crit rate of the Mani Katti when compared to Eliwood's Rapier or Hector's Wolf Beil means it can be substituted for a killing edge in a pinch, although an actual killing edge is preferred when available so as not to waste uses of the Mani Katti (though the Mani Katti has no value, so you can use it freely ranked runs).
Lyn's true utility does not fully manifest itself until promotion; Lyn, further demonstrating her class being derivative of Myrmidons, has access to Myrmidon and Swordmaster locked weapons (the Wo Dao being of particular interest) once she promotes to Blade Lord. However, upon promotion, one of Lyn's most useful traits is her access to bows combined with her Swordmaster-esque critical hit rate, making her one of the most lethal choices available to utilize Killer Bows. Even then, Lyn's 1/2 range is very lackluster for most enemy phases, as she most of the time become a sitting duck for 1-2 range units. Even though her promoted self can use Wo Daos, she lacks the critical bonus from the Swordmaster class, something that would be interesting for her.
Lyn's primary flaws remain her lower than average defense and her lower attack which are both common pitfalls of Myrmidons and Swordmasters, alongside her low movement of 5-6. However, her access to Bows gives her more common 2 range weapon access compared to the true swordmasters present in the game. Lyn becomes what is essentially a bow user's answer to Swordmasters; she will not be as powerful a frontline defender as Hector, nor as mobile as Eliwood, but with bows Lyn can help here and there. Should Lyn be forced into a frontline situation in the lategame, she retains the Mani Katti and her Wo Dao access, as well has her high speed and avoidance, to fall back on in a tight situation.
Overall, Lyn starts as a somewhat unorthodoxically weak Lord unit with a unique Rapier weapon but gradually evolves into an average glass cannon focused on Swordmaster-style stats who can assist the two bulkier lords from behind the front line with her bows.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Two versions of Lyn are playable as bonus units in Awakening: a free one through SpotPass as part of the Fire Emblem character set, and a paid one from the DLC chapter package Smash Brethren 3.
Lyn is also present as an enemy in the first and third installments of the Champions of Yore DLC series, the second and third installments of Smash Brethren, and the second and third installments of Rogues & Redeemers. Additionally, she appears as an ally unit in Champions of Yore 2.

Fire Emblem Warriors
Role
Lyn appears in Warriors as a playable character; she is one of the last playable characters that the player will unlock as her History Mode map, Noble Lady of Caelin, is only unlocked upon completing story mode. She does not appear in or have any story presence in the game's story mode. This is similar to how Celica is implemented in the game; both characters could be seen as bonus characters.
Lyn shares her moveset with Navarre, a downloadable character.

Personality and character
Lyn is a friendly, determined character who tries hard to reach her goals. She is quite positive and believes that she can achieve her goals. She has pride in her Sacae heritage, and is not willing to tolerate when that is insulted. As a lady of the Sacae plains, she never lies. She is strong and often slightly offended when anyone underestimates her because of her gender. Additionally, since she was brought up outside of the palaces of Lycia, she knows little of noble manners and customs. This does not mean she is savage, though, and Lyn is very friendly and polite to those around her. She has a strong sense of justice and is very persistent.
Lyn is the daughter of Hassar, the chieftain of the Lorca tribe, and Madelyn, the daughter of Lord Hausen of Caelin. Because she was raised in the Lorca tribe, she does not know of her mother's origins, nor her own noble blood.
As a child, she learned the ways of the plains and grew up happily with her parents. To most she was known as Lyn, but her real name is Lyndis, which her parents called her when they were alone. She learned the ways of the sword from her father during this time. In addition, sometime during her life on the plains, she met Florina, a pegasus knight in-training, who had fallen from her pegasus after being chased by bees. After Lyn helped her, they became good friends.
A few months before the events of her story in the game, Taliver bandits massacred the tribe, leaving Lyn as the only survivor. Afterwards, the game's story begins.

Battle quotes
“ | Lyn: Hey, listen! There's something I wanted to ask you. Migal: Begging for your life so soon, wench? Lyn: Are you... Taliver bandits? Migal: Taliver? Those greedy monsters? We're nothing like them!! Those fiends will even kill women and children! We're from Ganelon, and we know a little something of honor. We don't harm women, for one thing. Heh heh heh. After all, why kill what you can sell? Lyn: If you're not Taliver, then there's no reason for you to die here today. If you would like to tuck your tails and flee, do so now. Migal: You... You... No more courtesies! You're going to learn to watch your tongue!!! |
” | — Against Migal. |

“ | Eagler: Bring forth the imposter who calls herself "Lyndis"! She shall not pass beyond this place! Lyn: I am Lyndis. I'm no pretender. I'd ask you to believe me, but your heart and mind seem set. Eagler: Enough talk... Draw your sword! |
” | — Against Eagler. |
---|
“ | Lundgren: So you're the girl claiming kinship with my brother! Lyn: You'll play this farce to the end, won't you, Lundgren? Lundgren: The royal house of Caelin has no need of a Sacaen mongrel! I'll put an end to this foolishness here and now! Lyn: To further your own black ambitions, you've harmed my grandfather and the very land you ought to serve. I have neither pity nor mercy for you. Lundgren! Prepare yourself! Lundgren: Whelp! |
” | — Against Lundgren. |
---|
“ | Lyn: ...How can a proud man like you live as an assassin? Uhai: ...I sympathize with Brendan Reed's ideology. He wants to help the weak, to break the overly proud... Discussing this philosophy with Brendan and his sons, training together, getting stronger together... For me, the Black Fang was the first place... that felt like home. Lyn: "Felt"? Is that feeling gone? Uhai: The Black Fang has changed. Nergal sent that woman......But it's too late for me to change now. Lyn: Why? Talk to us, we may be able to help. Uhai: Expect no quarter merely because we are both nomads. Prepare yourself! |
” | — Against Uhai. |

“ | Lyn: Are you Darin? My grandfather... You tried to... Darin: What? Who are you? Lyn: I am Marquess Caelin's granddaughter, Lyndis! Darin: Oh...that senile fool? ...That doddering wreck dared disagree with me... I was so happy to be rid of him. Lyn: You're a dead man! |
” | — Against Darin. |

“ | Nergal: Little girl from Sacae... You'd do well to vanish. One such as you is no match for me. Lyn: The nomads of the plains do not abandon their fellow tribespeople. Eliwood and Hector are my dear friends... Their sorrow is my sorrow. Their anger is my anger. Nergal: Pah... Lyn: Nergal! In my friends' names, I will cut you down! |

- Lyn is the only Lord to not wear a cape.
- Lyn is one of four units in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade that can wield a Wo Dao, the other three being Guy, Karel, and Karla.
- Wendee Lee, Lyn’s English voice actress in Heroes and Warriors, also voices Veronica, Maria, and Sophia in Heroes as well as female Robin in Awakening.[3]
- Lani Minella, Lyn's English voice actress in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, also voices Mia in both Heroes and Radiant Dawn as well as Micaiah, Mist, and Rolf in Radiant Dawn.[4]
- Makiko Ohmoto, Lyn's Japanese voice actress, also voices Nephenee in Heroes.[5]
- Lyn is the only lord character from a Fire Emblem game prior to Awakening without an item named after her in either Awakening or Fates.
