Mark's agreed to attempt this...recovery. I wouldn't be here if not for that. Mark believes we can do this. I'm sure that decision was not made lightly. With Mark at my side, I'm confident we can win. Let's get your ring back, Ninian.

Plot
- Main article: The Black Shadow/Script
While Lyn is in pursuit of the Black Fang who stole Ninis's Grace, Ursula—one of the Four Fangs—chastises Beyard for failing to capture Nils and Ninian. Beyard promises Ursula that he will capture the siblings once they arrive at their stronghold in pursuit of their stolen ring. This convinces Ursula to give him one last chance. Before she leaves, Ursula promises to give Beyard the "fang's punishment" should he fail to capture the siblings again.
Meanwhile, Lyn and company arrive at the fortress. Ninian tries to convince Lyn to abandon the ring and not take such an unnecessary risk but Lyn expresses confidence in Mark's decision, and assures Ninian that they are more than capable of pulling off this recovery.
Once the enemy has been routed, Lyn corners Beyard and attempts to make him return the ring and promise to leave Ninian and Nils alone. Beyard, knowing Ursula will execute him when she returns, chooses to take his own life with poison. Lyn wonders why such a well-organized group is after the siblings and promises the duo that as long as she is around, she will protect them. Lyn then returns Ninis's Grace to Ninian.

Strategy
Augury
|
This chapter has no augury. Hannah will offer her services beginning in Chapter 14.
|
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.
|
This is the first chapter in Lyn's Tale to not have any tutorials or actions that the player is forced to make.
The goal is to rout the enemy so you need to kill as many enemies as you can on both the player and enemy phase. In the western room, take out the soldier with Erk or Lucius and they will take out the Mage on the enemy phase. Form a choke point with a sword-wielder to the south of the Brigand closest to your initial position. Take out the soldier guarding the cracked wall with a Javelin so that you can kill the Archer on the enemy phase, and move Rath towards the wall so that he can break it and Matthew can steal the treasure on the second turn, before the enemy thief does. Take note of where the reinforcements appear and plan ahead for their arrival so that you can take them out with ease.
Beyard has no 1-2 range weapons, does not move, and receives no bonuses to his avoid or defense from the terrain he is on making him easy to pick off with Javelins, bows, and magic users.
