My business? What do you mean? I heard my old friend was here in Laus. I merely thought I'd ride out to greet you!
— Erik to Eliwood, when the latter and Hector are passing by Laus.

Erik (Japanese: エリック Erik) is the boss of the fourth chapter of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and the fourteenth chapter of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. He is Darin's son and an old acquaintance of Eliwood and Hector.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Role

Erik is the marquess of Laus. He betrays the Lycian League, choosing to side with Bern, out of fear. When Roy's army is passing through Laus on their way to Ostia, he is ordered by Narcian, a general from Bern, to stop them. Despite deploying Laus' full military power and even mercenaries, he is not able to stop Roy and is killed. Erik's betrayal casts a shadow of doubt on the Lycian League's stability.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Role

When Eliwood and Hector were pursuing Darin to question him on the disappearance of Elbert, Erik volunteers to stop them from crossing Laus.[2] Erik rides from the castle alone and and asks Eliwood if he is headed to Ostia and if he has spoken with Hector recently. This quickly draws Eliwood's suspicion and Erik has his nearby troops ambush Eliwood's group. Erik admits he is disappointed he was unable to get Eliwood to tell him if they had already met with Marquess Ostia and rides back to Laus to defend the castle gate.

When Erik begins struggling with Eliwood's forces, Darin flees Laus; abandoning Erik to defend the castle alone. Erik is eventually defeated and captured, Eliwood and Hector then interrogate him for info on his father's motives. They find out that Darin, since a year ago, has been manipulated by a mysterious figure named Ephidel and leave Laus to pursue Darin into Caelin.

Personality

Even at a young age Erik tried to get on the good sides of people that he though were or would be powerful. When Erik first met Eliwood and Hector as children he was very talkative in an attempt to sway their favors.[3] Later, he overzealously attempted to make the kids present commit to a warrior's oath; he begun by cutting his palm so that they could all clasp hands and become blood-brothers. This only served to confuse the other children.[4]

When Erik and Eliwood's group clash in The Blazing Blade Erik says he has always been annoyed by Eliwood's "pathetic morality" and is happy to have the opportunity to fight him;[5] though any long term effect this has on him isn't elaborated.

He expresses distress that his father abandoned him when Eliwood and Hector interrogate him.[6]

Battle quotes

You fools are bound down by moldy, old tradition! Allow me to teach you the way of the world!
— Erik, in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade.
Laus is the true throne of Lycia! Taste my lance!
— Erik, in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade.
You sentimental fool! You think we're still in school? Well, let me give you an education! First, you will fall, and then Hector. Pherae and Ostia will be crushed beneath my boot! Soon, all of Lycia will be under our control!!!
— Against Eliwood in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade.
You've always been...an eyesore to me. No matter how hard I tried... You two garnered all the attention...all the praise. In the classroom...on the training grounds... Everywhere and everything! [...] Hold your tongue! I will hear no more! No more!
— Against Hector in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade.

Trivia

  • Erik has a custom unit palette in The Binding Blade, but it is mistakenly assigned to be used when he is a Paladin, and so does not display.[7]
  • Erik's in game palette in The Blazing Blade depicts him with green hair and light red armor, presumably due to the enemy palette overwriting his in-game color scheme. If hacked to be a playable unit, Erik's palette depicts him with dark red-purple armor and brown hair, matching his portrait.

Man, I heard more than enough sweet talk from that one!
