==Biography== | |||
===Early life=== | |||
| |||
Sothe was born in Daein to unknown parents, but was orphaned and grew up on the streets in Nevassa, stealing to survive. About a decade before the events of Radiant Dawn, Sothe met Micaiah, who took him in and treated him like a little brother. They lived an itinerant life, frequently moving to hide Micaiah's Branded heritage.
===Search for Micaiah===
Micaiah eventually ran away from Sothe because she thought her Brand might cause trouble for him. Sothe attempted to track her down, eventually leading him to the Crimean town of Toha during the Mad King's War, where he stowed away in Nasir's ship while the Greil Mercenaries were escaping from Daein troops because he had no other leads. He was eventually discovered, but upon explaining his plight to Ike, Ike decided to let him join the army so he could look for Micaiah. Sothe accompanied the Greil Mercenaries for the rest of the war, but was unsuccessful in locating Micaiah.
===Dawn Brigade=== | |||
During the three years after the Mad King's War, Sothe reunited with Micaiah in Nevassa, after which Micaiah promised to never leave him again. When Jarod and the Begnion Occupation Army began abusing their power and cracking down on innocent civilians, Micaiah and Sothe found Nolan's Dawn Brigade and joined with them. Sothe began serving as Micaiah's unofficial bodyguard and advisor after that. At an unknown point in time, Sothe also contacted Tormod, instructing him to inform Empress Sanaki of the current situation in Daein. Sothe continued to fight with the Dawn Brigade after they joined forces with Pelleas and Izuka's troops to become the Daein Liberation Army.
===Blood pact=== | |||
After the liberation of Daein, the Laguz Alliance declared war on Begnion due to the senators' role in the Serenes Massacre. Pelleas ordered Micaiah to oppose them and side with Begnion, to which she and Sothe complied, but Sothe voiced his reluctance to do so. Later in the conflict, Sothe was picked up and used as a hostage by Tibarn, which led to him angrily threatening to abandon Pelleas, unless Pelleas explained why they were still opposing the Laguz Alliance despite heavy losses and the militarily stronger Apostle's Army marching on their location. Once Pelleas revealed the existence of the blood pact, Sothe decided to stay and defend against the Apostle's Army. When their efforts failed and the army broke into the castle, Sothe and Micaiah realized that Almedha knew more than she told them about the blood pact. They then convinced Almedha to reveal an alternate way of breaking the blood pact: killing the pact author, Lekain. Kurthnaga then arrived and attempted to stop the fighting, but was unsuccessful as the Daein army refused to stand down due to the blood pact. After a climactic battle, Sothe was one of the few to not be petrified by Ashera.
===Judgement=== | |||
Sothe was assigned to the Silver Army, and he traveled with Micaiah during their skirmishes with the Disciples of Order. During one battle, they also attempted to take the blood pact from Lekain, but were unsuccessful as he used his Rewarp staff to escape. When the three armies converged on the Tower of Guidance, Sothe was one of the chosen few to enter it, along with Ike and Micaiah. After their first final battle, Sothe retrieved Pelleas's blood pact from Lekain's corpse, and Micaiah destroyed it. He then accompanied the army during the battles against the Goldoans, Sephiran, and Ashera herself.
After the conflict, Sothe returned to Daein to resume his role as Micaiah's protector and, depending on player choice, marry her as well.

Sothe is infamous for how weak he typically is. His base stats are very low for his join time, and even when trained, is permanently limited by his inability to promote and knives. As a result, he is primarily useful on chapters where he and Volke can both be used together for thieving utility, such as larger indoor chapters or the desert. While Sothe does not require money to be used for picking locks like Volke, the latter's cost is merely 50 Gold, which is a minor dent compared to the riches he brings or other available riches. As a thief, he also has higher movement than other tier 1 infantry units which can give him a niche early on before other infantry units promote. | Sothe is infamous for how weak he typically is. Blossom cuts into his experience gain by a third, which means it takes longer for him to level despite having some of the best growths in the game. He will still always be strictly limited by his class and knives, so he will always fall behind promoted units with respect to combat. This is important to note if data transfers are to be used, as if Path of Radiance Sothe is at level 20, his stats directly transfer to Radiant Dawn Sothe, whether higher or lower. In fixed growths mode, Path of Radiance Sothe's level 20 health, strength, and defense are actually lower than Radiant Dawn Sothe's base stats, hurting him in Radiant Dawn, whereas they are higher with random growths. Note that Radiant Dawn Sothe's base stats are already excellent for Part I without transfers.
Blossom takes up 15 capacity, and is the main reason to keep using Sothe, so it is not recommended to remove until he hits level 20. He can learn defensive skills like Shade or Miracle, as they only take up 5 capacity. Again, as he cannot promote, he cannot use an Occult. | Blossom takes up 15 capacity, and is the main reason to keep using Sothe, so it is not recommended to remove until he hits level 20. Sothe joins partway through Part I, Chapter 2, away from your other units in the northwest of the map. Sothe is playable for the rest of Part I excluding Chapter 9. Sothe is then available in Part III chapters 6, 12, and 13, and he appears as a boss in Chapter 7 and briefly in the endgame. In Part IV, Sothe is assigned to the Silver Army. Sothe is required to be brought into the Tower of Guidance. In all of Sothe’s playable chapters before the Part IV endgame, Sothe is force-deployed and his death results in a Game Over.
Sothe cannot promote by leveling or by using a Master Crown, and will promote in an event at the end of the prologue of Part IV.

Sothe is a tier 2 thief that joins Micaiah's team early in | Sothe is a tier 2 thief that joins Micaiah's team early in Part I. He is considered a "Jagen" of Part I, coming prepromoted compared to your other units and having excellent base stats all around for his join time, though for what its worth, he does have good growths, particularly in his offensive stats. He will one-round almost every enemy unit thanks to his excellent strength and speed base, and he has good durability, enough that he can easily hold a chokepoint or be thrown into a group of enemies and reliably survive. He has 1-2 range combat with knives, and though knives are weak, they can be forged, and his base strength also compensates through Part I, allowing him to kill enemies in one round anyway. Additionally, he can buy a Beastkiller in 1-4 which is an excellent weapon with good might, high crit, and effectiveness on beast laguz. On top of all of this, he is still a thief, has more movement than your other infantry, can open chests and doors, and has the highest chance to find significant hidden items like the 1-4 Beastfoe, Master Seal, and an arms scroll. To sum it up, Sothe is one of if not the the most useful and powerful units for Part I, especially early on as most other units are weak and frail. It is recommended to make plentiful use him, but be careful to not neglect other units too much, especially units like Nolan or Jill. Part I is his main selling point, and what makes him one of the best units in the game.
Sothe begins to fall behind in | Sothe begins to fall behind in Part III as other units promote to tier 2. He still remains very offensively powerful thanks to his high bases and another Beastkiller available for purchase in 3-6, but like most available units, he is quite squishy, especially on the maps full of powerful high move laguz that two-hit KO him. It should not be understated how useful his offense can be with his good offensive stats and Beastkiller, and he can provide accurate 2-range chip damage with knives. For what its worth, his offensive growths are pretty solid as well, though he will cap strength quite quickly.
For | For Part IV, Sothe is forced onto Micaiah's team. He has a forced promotion at the end of 4-P, meaning he will be stuck with a pitiful strength cap plus low strength knives. He is limited to chip damage, thought it would be wrong to say that is never useful. He is really nice for getting the desert treasure too. He is forced into the tower, but at this point it's practically impossible to have him do much in a fight. Even chipping would be a challenge for him, and he is unlikely to double anything but the dragons. The most he can do here is take stillness and function as wall tile and maybe shove a light unit. At the very least, he has no competition for deployment until after E-3.
Sothe starts with the Guard skill, which lets him take damage for a support partner randomly. On paper, this can be useful as he starts with an A support with Micaiah, but it is extremely uncommon, unreliable , and overall useless. It requires Sothe to be adjacent to Micaiah or other support partners, and Sothe is not really durable enough to use it after | Sothe starts with the Guard skill, which lets him take damage for a support partner randomly. On paper, this can be useful as he starts with an A support with Micaiah, who is very fragile, but it is extremely uncommon, unreliable, and overall useless. It requires Sothe to be adjacent to Micaiah or other support partners, and Sothe is not really durable enough to use it after Part I without risking his own life, especially since he is mandatory for almost all the game and it's Game Over if he dies before the endgame starts. The player will almost always benefit more from removing and selling the skill, despite its low value. When promoted, he learns Bane, which is one of the worst mastery skills in the game as it does not kill nor heal in combat. In theory it could leave an enemy on one health and then allow him to kill on his follow up attack, but he doesn't even double reliably in Part IV and on, and in the tower he might find himself doing 0 damage anyway.
Sothe has a wind affinity which gives a light avoid and accuracy boost. He already starts with an A support with Micaiah; this boost gives both units +2 attack, +8 hit, and +15 avoid, mostly useful bonuses for both units. It is greatly recommended to keep this support as it helps both units offensively and defensively, without any investment. Otherwise, Sothe wants a partner that gives attack, as he greatly struggles with damage output after | Sothe has a wind affinity which gives a light avoid and accuracy boost. “ | Most nobles get rich by trampling on the commoners, then spend their lives basking in filthy luxury. I've known them to be that way since the day I was born. They've never seen a blister or sweat for a day's meal in their lives. Do you know how lucky you are? | ” | — Sothe, to Astrid |

Early life
Sothe was born in Daein to unknown parents, but was orphaned and grew up on the streets in Nevassa, stealing to survive. About a decade before the events of Radiant Dawn, Sothe met Micaiah, who took him in and treated him like a little brother. They lived an itinerant life, frequently moving to hide Micaiah's Branded heritage.
Search for Micaiah
Dawn Brigade
Blood pact
Judgement
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Role
Sothe is recruited in a base conversation in Chapter 12, if the player chooses to recruit him. His survival unlocks a base conversation later in the game, where he tells Ike that he is from Daein.
If Sothe reaches level 20 in Path of Radiance, his stats will directly become his Radiant Dawn base stats if the game is started with a data transfer.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Blossom cuts into his experience gain by a third, which means it takes longer for him to level despite having some of the best growths in the game. He will still always be strictly limited by his class and knives, so he will always fall behind promoted units with respect to combat. Blossom benefits his growths more in random growths mode than fixed growths mode, so it is recommended to stick to random growths if he is to be trained.
Sothe has a wind affinity, giving a light accuracy and avoid boost. His only support partners are Astrid (wind) and Tormod (fire). Both of them have better support partners and do not directly benefit Sothe because he is a thief, so it is recommended to leave Sothe alone unless Astrid/Tormod have no other options in the playthrough.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Role

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Sothe is a tier 2 thief that joins Micaiah's team early in Part I.
Sothe begins to fall behind in Part III as other units promote to tier 2.
For Part IV, Sothe is forced onto Micaiah's team.
Otherwise, Sothe wants a partner that gives attack, as he greatly struggles with damage output after Part III. Again, just leave his support with Micaiah.

These people aren't your enemies, they're your friends! Sothe: Let's get on with this. I'm with Daein. You're with the Laguz Alliance. There's only one thing to do when enemies meet. Even though we know each other, I will not go easy on you! You are my enemy now! This is your last chance to run. I'll give you to the count of three! One... Two... Three... You look like a true soldier now. Sothe: ...I'm not the only one who's grown. You look every bit the true knight now, Astrid. Astrid: You really think so? Thank you, Sothe. That means a lot to me. Sothe: I know the answer, but I still have to ask. Will you pull back? We don't really have to do this, do we? Astrid: I was about to ask you the same thing. I don't want to fight you, Sothe. Sothe: No one's more surprised than me. I can't read people's feelings like Micaiah... I'm not invincible in battle like Ike... Between all these laguz kings and great beorc heroes, I don't really belong here. Sephiran: Then why are you here? Sothe: Because there's one thing I can't afford to lose. Micaiah. I've come all this way just to protect her... I won't lose her now. Sephiran: The depth of your feelings... Might I ask your name? Sothe: Sothe. Trivia
- In the NTSC-U version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Sothe's trophy states that he is a swordsman – this is false, as Sothe wields knives and daggers, never wielding swords in any capacity. This erroneous description was not present in the Japanese version and is corrected in the PAL version.
- Although Sothe is a mandatory character to select for the Tower of Guidance team and needs to stay alive until that point, he is not required to be deployed during the tower chapters (whereas he is force deployed in all other chapters), and his defeat in said chapters will not result in a Game Over.
- According to Tellius Recollection, Sothe was designed with an apparent age of 14 in Path of Radiance[4] and 17 in Radiant Dawn.[1]
