The Whisper (Japanese: 密偵エスピオン Espion) is a third-tier advanced infantry class which is exclusive to Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. It is the promoted form of the Rogue class, and is accordingly the hypothetical final form of the non-playable Thief class. Like their predecessors, Whispers continue to exclusively wield knives and to have the unique ability to unlock doors and chests without relying on the limited durability of keys.

Whispers continue the same style of gameplay of their preceding classes, with their time much better spent avoiding combat in favor of performing unlocking duties. Their skill and speed stats are both extremely high, with their speed and the low weight of their knives also giving them a very high avoid rate, and their immense speed also allows them to make good use of their Steal skill on enemies' items. However, their poor strength and defensive stats leave them very unsuited to combat, even with their high avoid, so their offensive ability goes no further than being able to fend off enemy attacks if they absolutely have to.

Trivia

  • The North American help description erroneously states that the Whisper's Bane skill incapacitates an enemy. The Bane skill does reduce an enemy to 1 HP with a single strike, but it does not technically incapacitate them.
  • Due to Whisper's luck cap being 35 and Rogue's being 40, it is possible for a unit to lose luck upon promoting from Rogue to Whisper. This is also possible when a unit promotes from Cleric to Valkyrie in Radiant Dawn.

Language Name Definition, etymology, and notes
English

Whisper

Quietly pronounced speech, here used as a metaphor for how stealthily and quietly members of this class are meant to operate on the battlefield.

Japanese

密偵エスピオン

Officially romanized as Espion, literally "spy". In Radiant Dawn, all Japanese class names are spelled primarily in kanji (i.e. 密偵), with a foreign-language name in katakana applied as furigana (i.e. エスピオン) and used as the basis for the romanized name in the class roll.
Espion is the French word for spy, and the root of the modern English word "espionage", or the act of spying.
