Road to the Empire (Japanese: 帝都への道 Road to the Imperial Capital) is the first chapter of Part IV of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. In this chapter, Ike and his army are attacked in the dead of night on their way to Begnion.
Plot
- Main articles: Road to the Empire/Script and Road to the Empire/Conversations
As Ike and his army travel to Begnion, they find that there hasn't been a single person moving person on their way. Rafiel relays a warning from Leanne that the Disciples of Order may come to attack them. To prepare, Soren starts working on contingency plans while everyone else rests for the night.
In the night, Ena informs Ike that Kurthnaga has been feeling very off as of late. Before Ike can ask him questions, Soren warns him that they enemy has surrounded them. As Nailah did not smell them coming, she begins thinking that they simply materialized here. At any rate, the army defends themselves against their assailants.
Once all the disciples have been taken care of, Ike finally speaks with Kurthnaga. Kurthnaga is initially nauseated by the blood on his Ike's sword, so he places it down away from him. Kurthnaga then recalls when the two met in Goldoa. Ike asks him why he initially sided with Daein before the Yune's awakening, and Kurthnaga explains that he did it of his own volition, completely ignoring the laws and neutrality of Goldoa, and that he fought solely to protect his sister. He also exposits about Ashnard, and how he used his and Almedha's child as a hostage and warped the mind of Rajaion, Kurthnaga's brother, to be used as a mount. Ike consoles Kurthnaga, saying that he saw Rajaion die peacefully, and promises him that he will not repeat any of what was said in the conversation to anyone else. Later on, all alone, Ike ponders on how he is always being drawn to Daein somehow.
Beginning log
Ike's route leads his group to the west. He is accompanied by his old comrades, deputy commander Titania and master tactician Soren. Also with him are Nailah, Queen of Hatari, the heron prince Rafiel, Prince Kurthnaga of Goldoa, and his loyal subject Ena. Having received a warning from Micaiah about the Disciples of Order, Ike and company stay alert and wary as they cross into Seliora.
