One Survives (Japanese: 闇よりの生還者 Survivor from the Darkness) is the ninth chapter of Part I of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. In this chapter, Micaiah is ambushed in the middle of the night, but is saved by an unlikely ally.

Plot

Main articles: One Survives/Script and One Survives/Conversations

At the liberation camp, Tormod brings news that the apostle is sending her inspection team to investigate Jarod's misdeeds, and that she ordered them to cease all military action. Tormod chooses not to spread it beyond Sothe and Micaiah because he does not want to face Izuka again. Micaiah and Sothe then go on to spread the news to the rest of the army. Meanwhile, Jarod receives the apostle's edict. He praises Numida's cunning, for choosing to distance himself from the occupation forces. Later speaking with Alder, to ensure that his corruption—and that of the rest of the Begnion senate—remains unknown, Jarod elects not to drag Numida down with him, and instead redirects his anger towards Micaiah. He orders Alder to create a diversion so that he can single her out. Later that night, Pelleas gives a speech to the Daein Liberation Army, announcing their success and bringing them a celebratory banquet.

Micaiah slips away from the banquet to have some time to herself, when Yune flies in. Micaiah speaks of how tired she feels recently, and her intentions to save Nevassa. While she rests, Jarod and a small band of forces ambush her. He explains his reasons for attacking her, though she believes Daein will still be reborn as long as Pelleas survives. Jarod then calls him a sham, and that she is the real hope Daein relies on. As he prepares to attack her, the Black Knight warps in, saving her. Jarod scoffs at him, stating how the Black Knight died three years prior, and sends his men at him before running off. In the dark of the night, the Black Knight and Micaiah then fend off his forces, and finally find him afterwards.

As the Black Knight is about to finish Jarod off, Alder takes the blow, killing him instead. The Black Knight then spares Jarod out of honor, and Jarod rebukes him, but still runs away. Micaiah leaves the apostle to be his judge. She then thanks the Black Knight, and Sothe appears and finds her, warning her of the Black Knight's history as Ike's adversary. The Black Knight explains that, while he was defeated by him, he managed to escape the destruction of Nados Castle. He proclaims his desire to see Daein returned to its former glory. After explaining the events of the night to Sothe, Micaiah foresees that sparing Jarod may have allowed a terrible event to occur. She also explains how her foresight has been less clear as of late. The Black Knight declares that he will continue to aid Micaiah, and though Sothe objects, Micaiah allows him, and thanks him for his help.

Beginning log

Micaiah and her small band of fighters knowingly walk into a trap to save condemned Daein prisoners. Even without the benefit of Izuka's vast information network, news of Micaiah's heroism in Shifu Swamp spreads like wildfire across Daein. The one-hopeless citizens of Daein dub her the Priestess of Dawn and find their spirits restored. In their troubled hearts, they see in her nothing less than the promise of salvation. Throughout Daein, the people rise as one against the brutality of their oppressors. Begnion's occupying forces cannot deal with open war on so many fronts. General Jarod redeploys his men to key locations to better defend the capital city. Jarod's forces still outnumber those of the Daein liberators, and he has hardened his defenses in hopes of holding off Micaiah's army. The liberation forces fight with a fury not to be denied, however, and the occupation army begins to lose its will to fight. Breaking through enemy lines again and again, Micaiah's forces gain vital ground and momentum. Despite the anger Micaiah feels toward Izuka for his treatment of their laguz allies, she continues to lead the army in its lightning-quick advance. Nevassa is now mere days away.

Strategy

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Bear in mind that Micaiah will refuse any attempt of the rescue command from the player, done by the game to prevent you from instinctively trivializing the chapter by having the Black Knight carry her at all times. As such, you must make proper positioning to survive.

A simple strategy to keep Micaiah protected is to simply unequip the Black Knight's Alondite. This will make the enemy more likely to attack the Black Knight instead of Micaiah since the enemy AI would generally prioritize attacking a unit who cannot fight back.
