Athena (Japanese: アテナ Athene) is a swordswoman from an unspecified foreign land who aids Marth in his journeys. She appears as a myrmidon in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Role
Athena washes up on the shore of a village near Aurelis and is rescued by its inhabitants. A group of pirates led by Bathys attacks, kidnapping the village's children. Marth and his passing army learn of the attack and head to the village to rescue the children. They meet Athena, who joins Marth in aiding the children. Once they are safe, Athena accompanies Marth on his quest to defeat Medeus.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Athena joins in Chapter 6x as a level 10 Myrmidon with good stat but mediocre growths, particularly with very low defensive growths. Her base speed is high enough to double a few enemies even in higher difficulties and prevents her from getting doubled even by faster enemies, improving her survivability. Athena joins at promotion level, but the first Master Seal is not available until Chapter 10; Master Seals are competitive as well, as units like Caeda or Cavaliers gain strong bonuses from promotion, and Athena may not promote for a while due to strong competition. This is a downside, as Athena is significantly more useful when promoted.
While her base sword rank is excellent at C, allowing her to use the Killing Edge, she will suffer weapon triangle disadvantage as most enemies use lances, and she lacks access to strong effective weaponry. Once promoted, she has good reclass options; Sniper gives her a C bow rank, and she has better stats in it than Jeorge in every area but on weapon rank. Classes like Dracoknight and Sniper do not allow Athena to use her sword rank, and for that reason, it may be more beneficial to make her a Paladin; while that makes her much slower, it gives her access to lances and keeps her sword rank.
Accessing the chapter where Athena is recruited requires that the player have 15 or fewer units alive at the end of Chapter 6; this will likely require the player to purposefully allow a number of units to die, which many players may be averse to.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Athena is a myrmidon that joins you in her version of Prologue 4 and re-joins the army in chapter 13x. When playing the prologue most players prefer playing Athena's version of Prologue 4 as her combat is vastly superior to that of Gordin. In the prologue she will be one of your strongest units thanks to her solid bases and great growth rates even for New Mystery standards. However after the prologue Athena leaves and the only way to get her back is by playing through chapter 13x, which is an optional chapter, where she will be very underleveled and unpromoted unlike to the rest of your army. Athena does join at level 10 with a B rank in swords, but even if she's early promoted her stats will be very underwhelming compared to the enemies in Lunatic. Athena can still contribute on lower difficulties, but sadly her contributions largely end after the prologue on Lunatic and Lunatic reverse.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Athena appears as an ally unit in the DLC chapter Lost Bloodlines 1, and as an enemy unit in the DLC chapters Lost Bloodlines 2 and 3. A version of Athena is playable via SpotPass as part of the New Mystery of the Emblem character set.

Athena can not speak the language of Archanea very well. She pronounxes all of her W's as V's, and refers to herself using third person plural pronouns. In the Japanese, she uses her name instead of first person pronounces.
