“ | I can only use bows. An archer can't even defend himself at close range. I won't be able to protect Lord Roy if something happens... | ” | — Wolt to Marcus in a support conversation. |
---|
Wolt (Japanese: ウォルト Wolt) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. He first appears in Chapter 1.
He is an archer from Pherae and the son of Rebecca. His father's identity is unknown, but possible options are Wil the archer, Lowen the cavalier, or Sain the cavalier, given their shared endings with Rebecca in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. He is milk brothers with Roy, making them grow up extremely close to each other.
In Fire Emblem Awakening, Wolt returns as an SpotPass playable character, and he also makes an appearance in some of the DLC chapters.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
Role
A loyal knight of Pherae, Wolt is first seen escorting Roy back to Pherae, alongside Marcus and Alen. When word from the bandits' attack reach them and Roy expresses his worry about Lilina, Wolt admonishes him to leave his regrets behind and to fight.
After saving Castle Pherae, Wolt stays by Roy's side, first as part of Pherae's army, then in the Lycian League's army, and finally, as a member of the Etrurian army during the final stages of war.
Once Bern is defeated and the war is over, he goes back to Pherae and helps Roy rebuild Lycia.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Wolt is the first archer that joins you in The Binding Blade from chapter 1. His bases, even when taking his early join time into account, are pretty terrible and his very good growths don't help him very much as because of his inability to retaliate at 1 range and the high quality of the enemies means he'll have a hard time gaining EXP and one rounding anything other than generic soldiers. Luckily due to weapons in The Binding Blade having bad 1-2 range, besides magic based weapons, Wolt has a valuable niche in the earlygame by dealing chip damage that is often necessary to secure kills. Sadly this niche doesn't last for long as the player quickly gets access to other bow users like Sin and Sue, who also have the benefit of having a mount, not to mention prepromoted snipers like Klein and Igrene, making Wolt's main use being after the first few chapters being benchwarming.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Wolt is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the The Binding Blade character set. He is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series, as well as an ally in Smash Brethren 1.
As with several other legacy characters in Awakening, there is a unique weapon named for Wolt available through the Barracks or event tiles: Wolt's Bow.

Personality
Wolt is a loyal servant of House Pherae. He and Roy have grew as brothers, as Rebecca was Roy's wet nurse, but Wolt is very aware of their different positions in society. This is a cause of conflict between them: while Roy wants him to be his brother and friend, Wolt only sees himself as a simple servant, a notion that Roy disagrees with.[1] Yet this does not mean that Wolt does not care about him. He swears to be always by Roy's side and help him.[2]
Wolt always strives to improve himself. In his conversations with his fellow knights, he is amazed at Alen's physical prowess[3] and Lance's deep knowledge. Both knights can take him under their wing and train him.[4] His relationship with Marcus is a bit different; Wolt shows his lack of confidence and feelings of inadequacy, and even has problems believing the older knight's words of reassurance.[5] Over the course of their conversations though, Marcus manages to convince him that even if his peers have superior fighting skills, he is still an invaluable asset to Roy by giving him moral support as a loyal friend.[6]
Wolt cares for all members of the army, as seen in his interactions with Sue. He shows a friendly side to her, caring for her welfare and trying her suggestions,[7] such as shooting arrows from horseback. This shows that he is willing to attempt new things if it means he can be a more effective fighter, though he decides to continue fighting on land in the end.[8]

Romanized as Wolt in the Fire Emblem Museum website (archived by the Wayback Machine). Wolt seems to be a variant of the German name Walt, which means "powerful warrior".[9] Walt is also the short form of Walter, which is the name of a legendary king of the visigoths. |

Roy: ...Just call me Roy. I've known you all my life.
Wolt: I appreciate your kindness, but rules are rules.
Roy: Do you really think so? You suddenly feel so distant to me." — Roy and Wolt's C support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - ↑ "Wolt: Then do so! It is bad for your health to keep your feelings bottled up. Besides, we all know you are in a stressful position. I'm sure he will understand if you feel the need to vent.
Roy: Do you think so?
Wolt: Of course! If you want, I can go talk to that person. I will always support you, so don't hesitate to ask anything of me." — Roy and Wolt's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - ↑ "Alen: We must break through our own limits and become stronger. We must be able to stand against any so we can protect Lord Roy.
Wolt: You're right!
Alen: All right... I've caught my breath. Let's go!
Wolt: He's amazing... But I can't let him get ahead of me!" — Alen and Wolt's B support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - ↑ "Wolt: Oh, Sir Lance.
Lance: Wolt... Are you all right? Your eyes look rather red...
Wolt: Yes! I'm fine. I was just reading the book on tactics that you lent me.
Lance: That's good. Were you up reading it all night?" — Lance and Wolt's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - ↑ "Marcus: Are you embarrassed to take over for an old man like me?
Wolt: No, not at all... It's just...do you really think I can do it...?
Marcus: There's your problem. You lack confidence. Lord Roy won't be able to turn to you if you're like that.
Wolt: You're right..." — Marcus and Wolt's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - ↑ "Marcus: I don't want Lord Roy to suffer the same fate. You and Lord Roy are the same age, and what's more, you were raised together. I need you to stay by Lord Roy's side and give him moral support.
Wolt: Moral support?
Marcus: Combat prowess is important, but that is not all you can do. Think on what I've said. You are more important than you realize." — Wolt and Marcus's B support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - ↑ "Sue: Wolt? What's the matter? You're out of breath.
Wolt: ...It sure is tough trying to keep up with a horse... I mean, I remember you said it was easier to approach your target. So...
Sue: You tried it?
Wolt: I thought I may as well." — Wolt and Sue's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade - ↑ "Shoot very well? I probably wouldn't even be able to stay on! Yeah... I think I should stay on the ground. It seems to be more fit for me." — Wolt and Sue's A support, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
